There seems to a general consensus that Nintendo has a pattern of releasing a 'revolutionary' console, and then refines them with a succeeding 'evolutionary' machine. So NES, N64, and Wii come under the former, and SNES, GameCube, and WiiU the latter.

But which games do you prefer, those that appeared on the key innovating machines, or on the consoles that improved on their predecessors?

My favourite Mario game is SMB3 and my Zelda of choice is Ocarina, so this would suggest I appreciate the software on Nintendo's revolutionary consoles more. But conversely I know a lot of people prefer SMW and Wind Waker, suggesting a preference for evolution.

So what about your favourite Nintendo games, and what do they say about your tastes regarding the development of Nintendo consoles?

Hmmm....I would put the N64 under the evolutionary category rather than the revolutionary but you could probably debate that forever.

I prefer the SNES over the NES and N64 over the Gamecube (but not by much), so I can't really say which preference I would have.
