Now that Nintendo announced Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green on the Switch, will the other classic Pokemon games be coming as well? I’m a little worried they might only add these to celebrate the 30th anniversary.
If they were going to add Gen 1 games, they would have announced them instead of Gen 3 remake. Does this announcement raise or diminish the possibility of the original Gen 1 games coming out as well since they kind of conflict with the sales of the remake?
I sure hope they do come! And that none of them are butchered with random changes.
Unfortunately, the EU and Australia giving any game with "simulated gambling" an automatic mature rating means that the original Red and Blue are most likely out of the picture, at least in those areas of the world 🤦♂️.

@Nep-Nep-Freak Looks like the FR/LG rerelease has a PEGI 3 rating, so if they haven't removed the Game Corner maybe PEGI's stopped being so strict on 'gambling' references?
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
Honestly, I'm surprised. I lost my copy of Pokemon FireRed a long time ago, so this is one I'm definitely considering. Also, I love the fact this is a GBA game I can buy. I don't have the Expansion Pack, so I see that as a win. I'm someone who does subscribe to NSO and plays the classic games on it. More options to buy please!
I hope they do Ruby/Saphire/Emerald. I still have my copy of Pokemon Emerald, albeit the clock battery no longer works.
My guess is they do a $60 collection of the Game Boy and GBA games (bar this one, obviously) near the end of the Switch 2’s lifespan.
I do think the Pokémon Company might see some value in having the games available on the Switch ecosystem to carry them to Pokémon Home, so I could see the rest of them getting sold individually at some point.

I already own Red, Yellow, Gold, and Crystal on the 3DS, so I'm unlikely to buy them again if they're re-released.
And since I've never played the Gen 3 games, this announcement was welcome (despite the high price and lack of online trading options).
I'm considering getting this. I used to have Pokemon Red for the Game Boy, but I no longer have it. I'm actually glad they're putting in the GBA remakes instead of the originals.

Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
Quick question: why is it FireFed and LeafGreen? I thought the original games were red and blue? So shouldn't there be a WaterBlue? If they're changing the colors, why not change both and do a SunnyYellow or something? Sorry if this is stupid lol
(Also.... Nintendo, if you want me to play Pokemon, give it to me on your subscription service that I already pay for! Why would I play another 20 bucks for this??)
If they released anything else, it would probably just be Emerald.
This release seems to be fairly low effort---there doesn't even seem to be any special borders like you usually see for classic game releases---so I doubt that they would deal with redoing the (3)DS games' UI for a Switch re-release. If they announced a dual-screen accessory for Switch 2, then it could be possible, but otherwise no.

@CaleBoi25 The true original Pokemon games were Red and Green in Japan. Apparently, there's like a cultural difference where Red and Green are seen as opposites in Japan but in much of the West Blue is actually seen to oppose Red, so the versions are different internationally. For some reason, they just didn't want to bother with making WaterBlue back in the day, I guess.

Yes, but probably nowhere near as many as what we'd expect. It seems like we're not going to get, for example, all of Gens 1, 2, and 3 (i.e. RBY, GSC, RSE alongside FRLG), they're just going to cherry pick whatever game they think is appropriate to re-release. They seem to think we're going to give you whatever Pokemon games we want and you're going to like it. The dream of Pokemon on NSO is officially dead, these are all going to be digital downloads like FRLG. Practically feels like worst possible timeline here (I guess it could've been worse on the pricing, but other than that, this is pretty much the absolute worst way they could've given them to us).
@Dogorilla Regarding the PEGI gambling laws, there's a grandfather clause. Older games that were already rated with the old criteria don't have their age rating retroactively changed provided the content is identical. They don't need to remove the Game Corner to comply with the law.
@Bolt_Strike Oh, gotcha. Was that clause introduced more recently then? Because I remember the Pokemon games on 3DS VC and the DS Mario games on Wii U VC getting 12 ratings for gambling.

Any other franchise would have done a collection of multiple games but hey it’s Pokémon we weaponized people nostalgia of course they will overpay for a gba rom with barely any work …
Like 30 bucks for gen 1-3 is something reasonable. How much were gba games on Wii u ? How much were the gameboy pokemon on 3ds ?
@Bolt_Strike I think this could be like a Super Mario All Stars situation where LGFR are only released on the eShop to purchase for Pokemon's 30th anniversary. Look at one of the Q&As Nintendo published on their FAQ regarding LGFR:
"Why are you handling these classic games differently?
In celebration of 30 years of Pokémon, we thought it would be fun to return to the ultimate versions of the original Pokémon adventures in the Kanto region with these special releases."
That right there makes me think future re-releases of Pokemon games aren't coming to the eShop. Which is a shame because not everyone wants to subscribe to NSO Expansion just to play RBY and so on. Though I can also understand the logic of the people who would like to play the classic games via the service too, don't get me wrong.
Personally, I can kind of relate to the people who would like to own the games after purchase, and not have their games being taken from them afterwards. Like, I wish I owned the first two Golden Sun games, yet because how expensive modern games are these days and little time I have to play them, I'm not sure when I'll want to subscribe to the service again to play whatever I would be interested in playing. Sometimes I play old games, and for a long duration of time too, like how I picked up GS Dark Dawn one Christmas and another DS game another Christmas. Same can be said about modern games I get - last year I played some of Fantasy Life: i and am currently playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

@Duboiss IIRC, Wii U GBA games were $8. The Pokemon games on the 3DS eShop were $10, compared to other Game Boy virtual console games being sold for $3-$4
