LOS ANGELES - A sequel to Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is in the works.
The channel said Wednesday the new animated TV series will premiere in 2011. It has the working title, "The Legend of Korra."
Nickelodeon says the series will build on the "mythology" of the original "The Last Airbender" series, which inspired this summer's live-action movie from filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan (SHAH-muh-lahn).
The "Legend of Korra" is from the creator-producers of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson says the new series will focus on a teenage girl avatar named Korra. Brown describes her as hotheaded, independent and "ready to take on the world."
It's a follow-up to the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," not the abominable film (which got the storyline of the series so f*cked up that it doesn't deserve to be associated with Avatar.)
Oh thank goodness! I thought this was going to be about a sequel to The Last Airbender movie. Luckily it's another animated series, from the same people who made the original. I'm glad that I'll be able to start watching from the beginning this time, instead of not realising until the start of book 3 how awesome the show is and then desperately trying to catch up on the first 2 books.

here are some rumors though we should get the scoop during comic-con this week t may be set 70 years in the future. Aang is featured in the series in the Spirit World, as Roku and past Avatars were to Aang in the Last Airbender. Korra is from the Southern Water Tribe. She has already mastered three of the four elements prior to the series, and is trying to master "Air". Aang's son, Tenzin, is supposed to teach it to her. Most of the story revolves around a steampunk metropolis called Republic City. It's the epicenter of the world, and a virtual melting pot but is plagued by crime and a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip the city apart. [edit]Characters Korra
Only 70 years in the future? Wow, Aang dies pretty young (in his late 60s not counting the 100 years as a popsicle). And this is with Bumi at an incredibly healthy 112, Sozin living to be about 140 or 150, and Kyoshi living well past 200. Even without Aang, maybe some original characters are still alive. Somehow, the idea of old man Sokka really appeals to me. Even better would be old man Sokka as Korra's grandfather.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I read that the girl is Ang's and Kitaras daughter or Grandaughter I dont remember which one.
I cant wait for this one I never seen the first series untill last week when I streamed them all from Netflix in preperation for the movie. After hearing so many negative reviews I am thinking of just waiting till it comes out on DvD and rent it from Netflix rather than spend the 50 bucks at a theater.
