I actually saw one of their channels at a Hotel in a recent trip to Denver, and ended up seeing a documentary episode on Western confectionary with some Japanese spin XD

Wow! Been awhile since I got a comment, lol. That may have been Begin Japanology. Last week's episode (last Thursday) had that very theme. Thanks for stopping by!

On tonight's Newsline:

  • Japan teams up with South Korea for liquid natural gas. After last year's tragedy, Japan is trying to move away from nuclear energy.
  • The company that had built and operated the Fukushima nuclear power plant (involved in last year's disaster), has stated that they will persue solar energy for further endeavours.
  • Toyota has unveiled a new sports car, the Toyota 86.

On tonight's Great Gear:

  • a series of small hydroelectric dams in Tsuru city (near Mt. Fuji) were showcased.
  • the New Environmental Expo 2012 was visited. Tech showcased were heat reducing covers for windows for summer use, and "pellet heaters", which use plant waste to heat a home during the winter.
  • a newly constructed building covered from top to bottom in solar panels was visited. The panels were of different types, in various positions, and in different sizes, all to maximize the amount of energy collected.

On this afternoon's Newsline:

  • Tension is growing out of Japan's and China's dispute over the Senkaku islands.

On this afternoon's Begin Japanology:

  • The history of dolls in Japan was highlighted.
  • The earliest dolls in the country were paper or wooden charms used to ward off illness or bad spirits.
  • The annual "Doll Festival" was highlighted.
  • A segment on modern dolls, including the popular "Licca-Chan" brand.
  • A cultural doll exchange between the U.S. & Japan in the 1920's was highlighted. Many of the dolls exchanged were destroyed during WWII (on both sides), but some ended up surviving due to those who put themselves at risk by hiding them, to keep them safe. The remaning dolls now reside in various museums.

Why are you doing this?
And why is this thread not locked yet?
/me is confused

Maybe because TBD enjoys reading this thread xD

Well, unless someone really wants me to continue this, I guess you can lock it TBD (or whomever is watching over this thread).

The only programs I'm really invested in are J-Melo, Imagine-Nation, Tokyo Eye, & Begin Japanology. I can talk about J-Melo on whatever music thread I'm sure is around here, Imagine-Nation = Anime & Manga thread, won't get to see Tokyo Eye that much, and Begin Japanology can be really interesting one week, to being weak the next.
