Hello everyone I'm new to the forums but I think I have kind of a decent idea for what the next gen Nintendo console should be like. I know it's quite early to think about it but I'd like to share it before I move on to other things. So this is purely what I imagine would be a great console for the living room.
The thought came to me this weekend as my wife and I were playing monster hunter on our new TV. We checked out the online mode and decided straight away that we need a 2nd television with another Wii U. Then the idea struck me. Now a lot of this idea is just personal preference but I think it makes a lot of sense. So straight away let's talk specs.
To be next Gen we need next gen specs. So let's talk next gen specs.
Of course the PC will always be ahead of consoles because let's face it consoles are knock offs of PC's these days to some degree. So let's look at what a PC can currently be built to specs with today and plan for 2019 as our release for the new Nintendo.
PC today can run with:
Intel 16 Core Processor
4x 512 bit 6gb GDDR5 Memory Graphics Cards That's 24gb of GDDR5 which supports 4k resolution
64gb of DDR3 Memory
2 TB of Solid State Drive
a 4k Drive to read disk that support 4k
and those are the specs that matter for playing those next gen games like Crysis
Now this setup is possible today right this moment for a ton of money. We are talking $10,000 for 1 of these setups. Not cost effective at all. Nor is this setup really necessary for next gen Nintendo. As it stands 1080p is great resolution for a game. Having more resolution is nice but come on we can handle 1080p graphics.
So here are the specs I think would pull off the next gen Nintendo.
Let's shoot for a 12 Core Processor by 2019
16gb of Memory
2 Graphics Cards with at least 3gb of GDDR5 Memory a piece
Solid State Hard Drive
A drive that at Least Supports Blu Ray Movies Presto You've got the Next Gen Nintendo Console Specs
Why is this technology needed though? Well I really just feel like consoles have gotten away from player 2 when it comes to gaming. The Wii tried to hold onto player 2 in some aspects but it just kind of fails in my opinion with funky motion controllers. The Motion Sensors should be built into the Wii U Gamepad controller and only be utilized in a game like Mario Kart where just about every one has moved those old school controllers to turn sharper when necessary only to find that it didn't make you turn any faster. There's that's perfection of motion control in a nutshell. It belongs in Racing games.
Anyways here's the vision of the Next Gen Nintendo. Give it at least 2 Full 1080p HDMI Outputs. Here's exactly where it becomes next Gen. and personal preference. Let me hook up 2 1080p displays to it. Furthermore use 2 accounts simultaneously at the same time. Slim down the Wii U Controller but keep the touch screen toggles and ditch the camera. The real selling feature here is running 2 accounts simultaneously. Bringing Co Op into the home like never before. Nintendo needs to program their own console specific version of Facebook so they don't need facebook because facebook is not about the Nintendo it is about Facebook. I think most consumers of a Nintendo Game Console want a community quite similar to Facebook that is Nintendo centered. Where I can create my own Nintendo Groups and Join Pre Existing Groups that circle around Nintendo Games. Not Only that but it has a live feed that allows you to post anything from videos to randomness, like Facebook. You can't tell me there isn't a huge crowd of Facebook gamers that would like a Gaming Facebook site that centers around the games only. That's a whole new crowd to sell the console to. Furthermore The Nintendo Facebook Clone like site should keep track of achievements and there should be achievements. Along with the ability to add friends right from this particular site. It just seems like a very easy way for Nintendo fans to truly meet and interact with the broad Nintendo community easily.
Let's get more in depth though. Co Op Games. There really just does not exist a company that has targeted that part of the market. Where is a system that will let one family member enjoy listening to music on their own screen (and let's face it a lot of homes do have multiple TV's at this time) while the other person utilizes the system to play a game. Here's the real kicker though have you ever imagined sitting next to your brother or even your dad while he's trying to kick some butt in say Battlefield and been able to pick up your controller jump right into the game where he is at and start battling right along side him. This is completely possible with cloud technology. You don't need discs for games. We know this now. With cloud technology properly implemented I could be socializing or checking out DLC on my account My (player 2) screen and then see whoever is next to me in the game room in trouble and presto a helicopter is taking me to their aid in a matter of moments. I know Nintendo is all about the family unit but I honestly don't think player 1 and player 2 were ever really perfected.
Let's look at what we did right. LAN parties were awesome back in the day and still are if you can pull them off. It's one heck of a thrill to be able to yell at the person right in the room see what their doing on their screen and make those split second decisions to help them. Let's see what we are doing right currently. MMO's are great. Though I have never played wow itself it still remains after a decade one of the biggest communities of players in the world and that's a lot of money that Nintendo can't touch with current system. But getting back to 2 screens in the same game room. Most homes only have 1 hooked up to a console because well frankly too many people spend way too much money on one TV. Optimal Screen size for a gaming monitor is 24inch right this moment and it look amazing. So enlighten your customers about what's going to really work well with the system instead of letting them be mislead by all kinds of hype. You could get 3 24 inch screens for the price of one 50 inch screen this isn't rocket science and this set up is not that unaffordable.
But Co Op Co Op Co Op. All consoles are trying to make it happen and yet still end up with these consoles that are really optimized when one person is playing. Whereas the next Nintendo Should Optimize Player 2 Open up MMO and allow player 2 to jump into an MMO seamlessly with Player 1 and BOOM you almost kill two birds with one stone because it makes setting up bigger teams easier when you know that more than likely a player that just entered your online room might have a +1. But dear god not just Online Co Op please support the games that are co op without having to go online. The games have already been produced that show off Co Op very very well.
Price. Honestly if you just Doubled every aspect of the Wii U right this moment created the above mentioned Nintendo/Facebook Site You could pull off all of the above after unlocking the real potential of cloud computing. With the addition of supporting Blu Ray Movies and CD's I see no reason why a console couldn't only double the power of the current Wii U but actually beat it across the board and still come in at $600. Could I pull off that power myself for that price. For just the console alone yes. Add a tablet controller no but I could come close with a PC. Then you consider that their producing all of this in massive balk which means Yes they could turn a nice profit.
Now that's pricey even compared to a PS4 or Xbone. But the fact that it supports 2 TV's hooked up to it simultaneously and it supports two Wii U Gamepads running simultaneously with RUMBLE, I think it would be the Next Gen.
Player 2 should no longer mean splitting my screen. That's why player 2 is almost non existent these days on a console. Player 2 should mean I got another person right next to me that is fully capable of handing out a butt whooping just as much as I am. Whether he can or not is another question in and of itself lol.
Just be Sure to call it Nintendo 19
Coming to a store near you November 2019
You misunderstand me. I'm not predicting what the next console will be. I am merely giving an opinion of what it roughly should be. I've worked with computer systems for years and understand the time frame on which they upgrade. In a PC right now it's possible to run three monitors running at Full 1080p with all graphical features maxed. What I wrote above is just an opinion of what I think Nintendo could pull off by 2019 and it is also an opinion of what I personally would like to see a console be capable of.
The real icing on the cake though is programming the next Nintendo console to allow two people to use it however they so please at the same time. This is a feature that a PC does not pull off even now. I believe this key feature would be a huge feat for any console and could really go a long ways in terms of sales. So with all of that in mind I'd like the opinion of those who responded in this matter. Would you find the feature of being able to connect two 1080p Televisions to your console and the ability for two people to use it differently at the same time? Meaning one could be browsing the internet while the other is playing Assassins Creed.
way too early for us consumers to think of the next gen system...
who knows what might happen? there are people saying that quantum computers will be out in 5 years, what means all the electronic and digital world might be rebuilt from the ground up in 5 years and if not in 5 years it will surely be in a not so distant future
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Thank you for your time.
The idea of creating a mainframe style system for the next console cycle would certainly lend itself to a certain, very niche consumer base. The console would be great for tournament or arcade style environments. For the general consumer, though, connecting to two TVs generally won't have real life applications, since most people don't put two tvs in the same room (and solutions to this problem would likely be clunky). Asynchronous gaming experiences could be achieved by designing the system to use multiple gamepads, which could be interesting, but most games that utilize this sort of function would be best suited to Nintendo's next gen handheld option, and your "this console is actually multiple consoles" system would probably just reduce sales and give a performance hit.

I'm not sure how you justify saying that this would lend itself to a "very niche consumer base". The internet shed a whole new light on multiplayer over a decade ago and only with the previous generation of consoles i.e. ps3 and xbox 360 did online multiplayer become mainstream. Of course those with PC's have been taking advantage of online play much longer but a fact remains that many console consumers do not play games on PC's. That means that a large group (not niche) of gamers have still not experienced what it is like to play an MMO because there has not yet been much support of it on consoles except for FPS. So consider what a game like World of Warcraft supported on a console would do for console gamers.
Furthermore I agree that two TV's are a bit clunky as a selling feature and might be more of a turn down then an actual selling point. However in the way of performance I see no reason why the hardware could not be divided up evenly amongst two tablet controllers and yes two televisions. I don't understand where the lack of performance would come from. Maybe it's hard now because One motherboard and cpu takes up a good amount of space but as technology matures we continue to see smaller and slimmer devices. Furthermore consider just doubling the size of the Wii U right this moment which would still only be the size of a new blu ray player and be perfectly capable of fitting twice the hardware in the current Wii U.
Lastly though many pieces of technology have many features even today, it doesn't mean one has to use those features. There are millions of apps out there but you don't use every single one on your iphone. The above mentioned console should of course still be capable of running with just one tv hooked up and one controller. Nor should there be any lack of single player games because of course you can't always get your brother or wife to sit down and game with you. But having the option might see more support than you think.

I'm terribly sorry RancidVomit86 but it's thought and contemplation such as this that become the ideas, which are realized in new ways on . . . . Next Gen Consoles. It goes without saying that what we do today inspires tomorrow. I agree it is way too soon for a next gen Nintendo but dreaming it up couldn't come too soon at all.
I'd love to get the community here more involved. Those of you who can stand the idea of next gen consoles this early, what would your next Nintendo Console be able to do? What would you like to see it do more? What current ideas should be held onto and only improved not changed? Thanks for your time and input.
