With the rise of the internet and game presentations from companies, shadowdrops and game announcements/ reveals have become more common than ever.
So my question is do you guys prefer if a game was to be announced that it was coming out this week/ today (shadowdrop). Or for a game to be announced that it's in development now (like a reveals trailer with a predicted launch year)?
You know, in a way I do like shadow drops because we don't have to wait very long to play. However, I normally like to plan out what game I'll play ahead of time and shadow drops throw me quite the curve ball 😂.
For example, I just started 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim a few days ago but now they just announced that the XC3 Future Redeemed is coming out this week. I don't think I'll be able to finish 13 Sentinels in time 😅
I think normal announcements are fine as well just as long as they aren't announced too far ahead of time.
Shadow Dropped, then you dont have to dodge all the spoilers, and with the amount of trailers (for instance with Zelda Tears of the Kingdom showing you all the new mechanics etc) I want to find out about these things as I play the game.
I personally prefer a mixture of shadowdrops and announcements because too many shadowdrops make planning what games to get a hard decision while too many announcements make the waiting period feel even longer if their all games you want.
I prefer knowing at least a few months ahead of time when a game is releasing. It helps me to plan out my gaming schedule and also helps to balance out playing my backlog.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (PC)
Honestly I'm fine with either way and both sides have their own pros and cons.
Shadowdrops:
A pleasant surprise
Less waiting time up to release
Easier to avoid spoilers because less buildup
Cons:
Because like the name implies, it comes out of nowhere and makes it harder to plan ahead of time for your "gaming schedule" or catalog for balancing purposes.
Discussions and speculation are short term because of the timing of the announcement and leads up to "less" hype.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think shadowdrops have a negative impact on sales?
Regular Releases With Announcements in Advance:
Pros:
Tons of hype leading up to release.
Long term discussion and speculation within the fanbase.
More time leads to more exposure for old and upcoming fans to see.
(Correct me if I'm wrong please) As a result of more exposure to the public this can increase sales.
Cons:
The wait is painful...
People may lose interest in waiting and as a result flock to other games.
My personal preference? I'm still trying to decide that for myself since I never had something shadowdropped this early that appealed to me.
I'll probably give my thoughts in a couple weeks after I beat the xenoblade dlc.
Depends on the game. If it is a big franchise I like advance notice as I may need to save. But otherwise I like shadowdrops as they can turn your whole day around. That being said I don’t like announcements more than a year out (barring delays). It just froths up the complaint corps.

Announced. It's such a balancing act though of how far in advance to announce.
Metroid Prime 4 seems like it was announced far too early, given that it's been almost 6 years and it restarted development over 4 years ago now.
But still, I like announcements so that I can know a game is coming and get excited.

Announced, but not how companies currently do it. I wish games were revealed at most, a few months before they release. Unless it’s a game from a series I am a hardcore fan of, I tend to forget about games that are revealed years before they release.

I'm indifferent, both give me the same degree of eager anticipation.

I don't like being tickled with anticipation, so, I would prefer more Metroid Prime Remastered style "shadow drops", with the physical release following a few short weeks later.
