I will begin with a response to @Ralek85, to his last comment address to me on the NIS America sales post !

@Ralek85 Haha I don't have multiplayer games (except for dark souls and bloodborn) to justify the purchase of the psn to myself, but as I have more on switch (Dark souls 1, splatoon, smash bros, pokemon etc) I decided to give NO a go

Yeah, it has been a wile since Atlus gave any news about SMT V, I'm a little bit anxious myself ! Persona seems to be more popular (it's cool, pop, easy enough, with teenagers and social aspect), and I was ever so disappointed when they removed to SMT part of the title ! Like you said, a lot of people don't even know SMT !

For a long time, I wanted to only play turn based RPG, I grow with them and my first RPG was turn based so I have a fondness for them. Aaaaw, no love for Dragon Quest ? We had so much in common until now xD ! Dragon quest should modernized itself a bit, I mean even if I love them, it will only be more difficult for these games to shine (turn based, on the slow side, old menus...) when a lot of newer games are action based and fast paced

I have to agree with you, to be able to visualized your characters is really more engaging when playing, and Etrian Odyssey feel a little on the "old" side with it's static image: but hey, the monsters are moving ! And you draw your own map ! (It's my favorite aspect of the game, and my main argument when discussing Etrian Odyssey haha)

Yes please, try Blasphemous ! If you liked Hollow Knight, I think this game will interest you. It's on the shorter side compared to Hollow Knight (I completed Blasphemous at 100% in 15 hours, and Hollow Knight feel really huge compared to it) but the style and general feel of thébaïde game make it really interesting. A free dlc will also come this year !
Oooh I'm wainting for Silksong too, so much hyped !

About Sekiro, I didn't think about the "downgrade" aspect, with the lack of customization or classes. When you put it like that, it's true ! In dark souls, I always played really classically (a shield, a sword, rolling everywhere to dodge and poking enemies left and right with my weapon) so maybe I didn't feel the lose in Sekiro because of that. You made me want to play differently, and I think I win,d begin a new playthrough of Dark Souls 1 on switch as a sorcerer (I know it will be ugly as I don't know anything about this class haha I already know Capra Demon will pound me in the ground with it's stupid dogs)

Concerning Bloodborn, I would also love to see a Bloodborne 2. With all the feedback they had from Souls, Sekiro and Bloodoborn 1, it could be truly amazing. I really loved the feel of Bloodborn, the inspiration as you said is really "Lovecraft" but I also also had a hard time with it: I'm such a coward that I was shaking in my boots at'every corner, and I remember how I threw my controller on the ground when this wolf just break through the door near the blood starved beast arena ( there is another scene like this one, with a beast coming through a window in a building). And don't talk to me about Amelia ! I was scarred the first or five times I battled her, with her looooud cries, and the first tile she startled me so much that I just ran in circle trying to wack her and flee at the same time ( then I turned off the sound and all was well haha)

I like "scary" game, but can't play real scary games ( like resident evil, outlast, silent hill) because I'm so easily scared but I love these games, so I'm just content watching let's play on YouTube !

@Anti-Matter

Is Dragon quest builder 2 good ? I only played the first one, and have not finished it yet. Is 2 a direct sequel ?

Ha, FF VIII ! I see you are a man of culture as well I totally understand you on this one

Did you try Animal Crossong New Horizons ? Maybe it will dethrone New Leaf and became your new favorite ! I only received it yesterday, and I really like it so far: to be able to craft ANYTHING is really cool, and you can just SEE the soft fur of Tom Nook <3 AC in HD and on a big screen is what I needed in my life

As you can probably guess from my discussion with Ralek, I'm a huge fan of Shin Megami Tensei: I love a lot of Atlus games, really, like SMT, Persona or Etrian Odyssey. Zelda games come second !
Fort SMT, if your are familiar with them, I liked Nocturne a lot, and Strange Journey (it's a dungeon crawler, and I really like this type of game)
For Zelda, Ocarine of time was my first Zelda game on the N64, but I have a fondness for Twilight Princess (and of course, Breath of the Wild is amazing, and I can't wait for BOTW 2!!! There is a lot of theory and fan art, and now I just want to see the infamous "rehydrated Ganon" and will be very disappointed if I can't have him haha)

@NightMiroir
I have played Dragon Quest Builders 2 until Chapter 2.
Still a lot of things to do.

ACNL cannot be dethroned by ACNH despite i gave the impression of ACNH = 90/100. If ACNH have a lot of things like DQB2, it will be instant 110/100.

I don't play rated Mature / 18+ games as i hate them.

I'm not fan of Zelda but i prefer to play the clones instead (A Knight's Quest, Portal Knights, Evoland, etc)
I prefer not so popular titles since they are hidden gems for me.

But until today, NO games can dethroned Dance Dance Revolution as i gave it 100/100 for my dedication to play DDR for almost 17 years and still play DDR arcade until today. (I will be 36 years old on this October 2020, but still have enough stamina to play very hard DDR songs on level 17 / 18)

Hmm, favorite games and platforms, eh? Considering I've enjoyed this hobby of ours for over thirty-five years...that's a lot of experiences to sift through. I suppose I'm fond of portable consoles more so than home consoles. My lifestyle demands that I fast throughout a majority of the day. So rather than eat a proper lunch at work I use that time to make progress on the backlog, and so portable consoles are perfect for me.

I appreciate the PS Vita quite a bit. Having favorites from the PS1 and PSP libraries all lumped into one device is convenient. But the breath and depth of the Switch's library have made me quickly set the PS Vita aside. Diablo III, Bayonetta, Skyrim, and Doom 2016 are a few of my all-time favorite games. And having those games in portable form has quickly made the Switch my all-time favorite platform.

Right place, right time.

And that's the opinion of a console-gamer who has owned most of the mainstream home consoles between the Atari 2600 to the PS4, sans the Wii and the XBone. But my enthusiasm for the Switch doesn't lessen my interest in either the PS5 or the Series X. The strength of Sony's first party games is undeniable and the Series X will be the platform of choice for third party games.

@Magician I really liked Bayonetta, I missed it on PlayStation and discover it on the Wii U (yes, the Wii U !) with Bayonetta 2. I hope Bayonetta 3 will be as good ! I didn't play Doom, any of them: I'm not good at this type of game, and find it stressful haha. Did you try Doom Eternal ?

I think PlayStation and Nintendo complement each other well, with their exclusives games. Concerning Microsoft, I only own the first XBox (my favorite game at the time was Jet Set Radio!), and didn't buy any other console from them: I favored the PlayStation because of the exclusive.

You seem to have own a lot consoles ! If you like portable, a really important question for you: did you own the Sega Game Gear ?

@Anti-Matter 17 years ! That's some dedication to your favorite game, respect !

I did. I fondly remember playing Sonic, Columns, Shinobi, and Mortal Kombat on it. Not a bad platform at all, better than the Atari Lynx, although I preferred the Turbo Express and Sega Nomad over both of them. I traded my Sega Game Gear into EB Games to help pay for an N64, no regrets.

@Magician

Haha great, good answer ! I played Sonic and Shinobi too ! My favorite game was Donal Duck, I remember it very fondly (this bear boss !): my Game Gear is somewhere in the house, and maybe I will returned to it !

I don't remember the Sega Nomad a lot, I played it a little (my cousin had it, with only Sonic game on it, he was a huge fan), and when I discovered these consoles, there already was the game boy color out for some time and I spent most of my childhood on it (Pokemon of course, but I remember a Mulan game that was awfully difficult for my little head !). I remember playing it at night in my bed, with a little flashlight, when my parents where asleep haha

My N64 was my brother's, and he wouldn't let me play on it: I watched him for a long time play games like Zelda Ocarina of time, 007, Jurrasic Park or Banjo Kazooie. When I finally could touch it, I played Zelda first and knew it by heart thanks to him

I had a Sega Game Gear too! The two GG Shinobi titles were real standouts, as were the Mickey Mouse games (Castle and Land of Illusion), but Donald Duck was definitely a good time. Lovely sprites and animations. A Disney licence really used to stand for a certain baseline quality in that era.

My most played games, though, were probably the tennis game Wimbledon (had a nice progression system to develop your player character) and, above all, Phantasy Star via a Master System cartridge convertor. Still hail that as maybe the best 8-bit RPG.

Are any of these still my favourite games now? Nah - but I’ve fond memories of them all. I’m sure I could still play through Castle of Illusion with no continues today.

Metroid Prime is my favorite game. I decided that about a year after it came out, and have never had reason to change my mind. Though it's not close to my most played game (in terms of number of times played or amount of time), and its not usually the one I'm most passionate to talk about. I'm kinda boringly reasonable about why its my favorite oddly enough. It's just the game that I think is the best and has the best combination of gameplay and atmosphere for my tastes (though certain games likely do one or the other better, just not both).

Honestly kinda glad I don't play it too often though, that often works against even some of the best games.

I've never been able to come up with a fifth to make a top five list, but my top 4 favorite games of all time are The Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Myst, and Metroid Prime. There are a lot of potential candidates for the fifth spot (especially if I want to include more Zelda games), but none of them ever stand apart from the rest like these four do for me.

I don't have favorite game platform. I go where the game(s) I like ( and the price ) is on.
Usually RPG, Turn-based tactics, Real-time strategy, Action-adventure game ... and Life simulation
Ryū ga Gotoku (PS3-4)
Fantasy Life (3DS)
Spellforce (PC)
Mutant Year Zero (PC)
I also like somewhat pixelated game like Moonlighter ( have it on Switch & Steam, but I prefer to play on PC )

Not really into VN, "smashed" like ( or Dead Or Alive ) kind of game..
I do not like side scrolling kind of game. Unless I am super bored and it will just be on mobile device free.

My Brain, eyes, and fingers are not team player. They don't coordinate with each other.

I don't have a favorite game, and even a "top ten" list for me would shift wildly with my mood, but, having experienced the PS1 as a preteen, I won't deny the profound nostalgic tickle I feel when seeing footage of some of my favorite games from that system. That doesn't make its games better than what came afterward, though. They almost certainly aren't.

My favorite systems would probably be PS1, 3DS, Nintendo Switch, PS2, and NES. In that order.

One thing I miss is dedicated handheld games. I've had a major fondness over my lifetime for smaller-scale experiences designed for portable play. Which isn't to say that I don't absolutely love the futuristic hybrid goodness of the Switch, but I do feel like a style of game design has been lost to time along with the near-extinction of dedicated handhelds.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

RR529

I'd say traditionally JRPGs are my favorite genre (the first Kingdom Hearts & Final Fantasy X really got me into the genre, but I also hold Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, Dragon Quest VIII, & Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in high regard).

I like traditional Zelda (and Zelda-likes as well). I think Twilight Princess, Okami, A Link to the Past, and the Link's Awakening remake top the list for me.

Recently I've gained an appreciation for the general action genre, with great games like Astral Chain, God of War (2018), Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and even the Warriors franchise (I actually think One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is my favorite of the series, though I'm not a big fan of the anime itself).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Heavyarms55

It's always so hard to choose a favorite game overall. But I have several favorite series. Mostly Nintendo franchises:

I love Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and Xenoblade I can put hundreds and hundreds of hours into each of them.

The Switch is my favorite gaming platform to date. I bought it at launch and play it every day. It has eclipsed every other console I have owned to date. The hybrid design is pure brilliance, and while it does have a few weak points, they are completely overshadowed by a design that tops everything else on the market - personal opinion don't attack me.

For non-Nintendo platforms, I like the Cid Meyer's Civilization series, and Cities Skylines on PC and Switch. I enjoyed Halo for the Halo 1-3 and Halo Reach. But the series lost me with later entries.

And because of the amazing modding community, Star Wars: Empire at War is my favorite RTS. Most specifically the "Empire at War Expanded" mods "Fall of the Republic" and "Thrawn's Revenge".

My username and avatar give it away, but I adore the Super Mario series! It's way too hard to pick my absolute favorite Mario platformer, but my favorites are SMB3, World, 64, Galaxy 1 and 2, 3D World, and Odyssey. All of them are a joy to play.

I mostly play platformers. Besides Mario, other examples I like include Yoshi (especially Yoshi's Island on the SNES/GBA), Donkey Kong Country, Kirby, Sonic (especially 2, 3&K, and Mania, but I have a soft spot for SA2), Mega Man (classic, X, Zero, and ZX series), and Crash Bandicoot (PS1 era or N-Sane Trilogy). I also like games like Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Animal Crossing.

Oh yeah my favorite systems are N64, GCN, Wii. Maybe in that order, but definitely the top 3. Nintendo + nostalgia + being really good are my main reasons, to various degrees per console. It's hard for me to be too invested in a specific system nowadays, I just buy stuff because it has games I want and I care about the games. The system itself matters less and less to me personally.
