Topic: Are You Disappointed By The Direction Recent Paper Mario Games Have Taken "Moving Away From Being RPG's"?

I was more disappointed by the fact that Sticker Star barely had any story at all. At least Super Paper Mario had a great story behind it

I actually loved Super Paper Mario, as it tried something different and was very successful at it. Paper Mario Sticker Star on the other hand, was very disappointing.

All the Paper Mario games were great in my opinion. However, with Sticker Star it was tough to tell. Now, I'm not saying that it's a horrible game, to me, it felt like Nintendo was digging a bit too deep and went down this weird road. Because that game, was missing a lot of things from the series, but all in all it wasn't a bad game, just an odd, different one.

Yes I have. It's why I didn't buy Super Paper Mario, and why I decided against buying Paper Mario Sticker Star the minute I found out what they did to the storyline.

A shame too, I really liked Thousand Year Door. If another game like that comes out, I'll buy it immediately.

I've always thought, correct me if I'm wrong, that RPG stood for "Role Playing Game" in which you play the "role" as the main character in a story-like game. Technically, even games like Metal Gear or even COD campaign mood could be considered a "type" of RPG game. As traditional RPGs do have common traits as in leveling and turn based fighting, as games evolve with time, new and different things are added to games to set them apart from their competition. If all RPGs were put into a category that ment for them to follow certain guidelines in order for them to be considered a RPG, then we'd have nothing but a bunch of Final Fantasy type game and that would get quite boring (even though there is already a bunch of Final Fantasy games lol). But this is just my own personal opinion.

No because I didn't expect Sticker Star to be anywhere near TTYD's level of...erm, awesomeness. So I enjoyed Sticker Star, even if it didn't have much of a story, which is the only thing I didn't like. Even worse, Bowser doesn't even talk...and some of the humorous dialogue in the Mario RPGs comes from him...("You like compost? I'll compost your face!" - Bowser's Inside Story, lol) And battles were....meh, not as interesting. Gooper Blooper was fun though...had nice music and did this...catchy rhythm clapping....thing. lol
