Topic: Anyone had trouble with the "Windows/mac only" nonsense?

Seriously, I went to the Pokemon trading card game online for some games today after 9 months of a break, and it told me I had to download it. Fine, even though it was on the site.

But then I got a stupid message: Only available for Windows 7. I have a mac due to it's invincibility to viruses that damage PCs, and I can't download it. WHAT THE HECK? It was playable on the website on macs, so why not now?

So has a situation like this happened to you, where a game you really want won't work with your computer?

Every time there's a Humble Bundle, i rage about how bad they make the Linux's versions. For VVVVVV i had to instal libraries with Terminal, some thing that a normal and unexperienced person shouldn't have to do. Also, not many .debs because they only work on Debian distributions (like Ubuntu) but there are so easy: just click and tell them you want to install.

So, yes. Also, i cant pass my Vita screencaps to my PC because it needs a program that needs windows and emulated in WINE simply doesnt work, so i have to upload it to my PS3, then to a USB hard drive and then my computer. Now i upload it directly to Facebook.

I heard Linux has worse problems with these downloads than mac, and that's a shame...

Also, before any starts, keep your piracy garbage elsewhere.

Absolutely. The shame of Linux community is that they beliebeeveryone is a hacker that knows whats a .sh and knows perfectly how to use Terminal. Sorry, but that's disgusting. I downt want to hace to type commands to install a game knowing that the commands can crush my computer, and also i have to Google the solutions to all my problems. THat's the problem of fragmentation, because there are a lot of distributions (GNome, Ubuntu, Fedora...) and each one requieres completely different things, but most of them requieres some setup regularly to run games. And that's when someone decides to make a game for Linux.

Because not all developers have the time/money/ability to develop games for Mac.

If you want to do Windows stuff on a Mac, Bootcamp.

But that isn't supported by apple, plus my grandma is the one owning the computer, so she wouldn't want the reason she bought the mac to be taken away.

If Bootcamp wasn't supported by Apple then why would it be there?

And it only effects the start up. You can make it so it default boots up OSX. If you old down alt, then you can select which to boot.

Don't worry, Steam seems to hate macs, so many games that are on sale and I really want I cannot get coz they are only for PC!

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

Good luck with that...

As for Linux, I agree that it's unfortunate that there is so much fragmentation due to the many different distributions. Distributions like Ubuntu do a reasonable job through the repositories, but it's still not at the point where one can download a program and run it straight away, owing to the fact that it won't necessarily be self-contained. I think that's a fundamental problem with Linux - its open-source nature means, by definition, that there isn't a single distribution for developers to target, and so it's not always obvious how to get a given program to work. Thus, it's immediately rendered too difficult to use for most people that don't require it for some reason or another.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

There does seem to be more "SteamPlay" games coming out now, but yeah there's still lots of Windows-only stuff. :x

Because devving for Windows is very different to devving for Mac which is very different to devving for Linux. The program is now a download app rather than an in-browser game, so it's not Flash-based any more. It'll be made in C# or something, so thereby incompatible with Mac.

Anyway, I predict an incoming OS war!

Unless you're talking about performance, I can't see how Steam can "Hate" Macs, mostly because...

(A). Steam is not an entity. (If you dislike something with Steam, you should blame Valve, the company behind Steam.)

(B). Steam nor Valve have any obligation to provide Mac-owning Steam users with Mac versions of the games published on the storefront. (Again, you best complain against the companies who made the games rather than non-entities/entities that have no connection with the games.)

What I'm saying is that firstly, a lot of games on Steam don't support macs (I know that a lot do still, and its the developer's choice to release it on mac) and that Steam is a bit dodgy on my mac for some reason... But I really don't care. A lot of Steam games are on the mac app store, so I'm covered, but Steam has better sales more often...
