I dont read the early scans of one piece, so i dont know if this was revealed yet but i think i have a good idea whos under the lucy helmet. If you remember the luffy/ace childhood story its kinda obvious who it is.
Well, over the past few days I've been watching a few One Piece movies. If you remember, I watched the first two a few months back, and my reaction was basically along the lines of, meh. The first was just alright, the second was a little bit better but not anything great. Well I just watched the third, (Chopper's Kingdom I'll shorten it to, since it has an obscenely long name) fourth, (Dead End Adventure) and fifth. (The Cursed Holy Sword)
Despite Chopper being one of my favorite characters (just look at my avatar, he's so cute!) I really found Chopper's Kingdom to be a complete bore. The plot was beyond cliche, the kid (Mobambi) was irritating, and the villain was also quite lame. What truly irked me was just how week the villain was, there were plenty of opportunities to take him down, even Chopper could've, and should've beaten him easily. But they needed to stretch it out more, so they just had us wait until he got a random power-up (by eating a horn...sure there are devil fruits but that doesn't really sound like it should work in-universe) and was actually somewhat of a challenge before fighting him. I was kinda hoping Chopper would finish him off, since he definitely could, and it is supposed to be Chopper's movie, but oh well, Luffy pounded him away in a few seconds. There was a bit of the trademark One Piece humor which I liked, and the animal designs were creative, but overall it was easily my least favorite One Piece movie so far.
Dead End Adventure though...that's a whole other story. This was, in my opinion, the first really great One Piece Movie so far. All before it were either meh, good, or just plain bad. Not so with this movie. This was the first full length film (1 1/2 hours, instead of the 50 minute, double-feature length of the last ones) and it really shows. The animation is much better, the story is better paced and developed, and the characters are far more interesting. The whole aura of the film really felt like One Piece, and all the character's had fun moments. While a lot of people complain that Zoro and Sanji didn't get any fighting in this movie, I don't mind that much, since One Piece is more than just the fights anyway. They did get to bash around a few noob pirates though, haha. The kid character's voice might have been irritating, but overall, as a character she wasn't that bad. Plus, the side character they added, Shuraiya Bascud, was very cool. He had an interesting, if typical One Piece style backstory, was a fun fighter, and had funny interactions with Luffy. His design, while simple, was also pretty neat. The only character I wasn't too fond of was Gasparde, the villain of the flick, as his powers, personality, and final fight with Luffy all screamed Crocodile clone. Oh well, at least the fight was fun to watch. Speaking of fights, they were amazing in this film. Not in the show, or in any of the other movies so far were the fights this fluid and fun to watch! One of my favorite scenes was early in the movie, were Luffy and Shuraiya were fighting a bunch of Gasparde's thugs in a pirate bar. The scene was unlike any fight I've seen in One Piece before! Sure, the fights have indeed been epic and fun before this, but none of them can match the fluidity, and obvious budget behind the fights in this movie. Overall, Dead End Adventure was great.
The Cursed Holy Sword was also pretty good. It had nice fights, a fun, if non-canon back story for Zoro, good animation, good laughs, a pretty good plot. While perhaps not as amazing as Dead End Adventure, it's a great follow-up, and definitely gives me hope that from here on out the movies are only set to improve in quality. This movie doesn't lower the standards of the last, but instead keeps the amazing animation and fluidity of the fight scenes, and gives us even more of them! The two fights between Luffy and Saga, as well as the fun little side fights the others had (Usopp, Robin, Nami, and Chopper all got their first fights in a movie! Even if they were very small ^_^ ) and the final fight with Zoro was cool too. The story, while rather cliche (cursed sword that is sealed for a limited amount of time, and needs to be held back by a few sacred objects, reminds me of Zelda too much) was well executed, and provided for some fun moments. I really enjoyed the part where Luffy and Usopp were away from the group, wandering aimlessly through a death-trap infested tunnel. One of the few problems I had with it was that at times Zoro felt out of character, like when Saga took precedence over his crew, and when he attacked harmless villagers and Sanji just for that guy! Honestly, when I heard that he and Sanji had a legitimate fight in this film, I had guessed it was because Zoro was under the control of the sword, but I guess he did it just cuz Saga told him to...kinda OOC. Overall, while not as great as Dead End Adventure, The Cursed Holy Sword is another solid film and gives me hope for the next One Piece movie, which has a great deal of hype around it, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
Well that's all for now, I really didn't like 3, but I really did like 4 and 5. See ya!
A new manga is gonna debut next week in wsj.(or maybe it already did) its called "Stealth symphony"
The main character seems to be wearing some kind of jetpack.the art style looks kinda cutesy similar to yugioh.
speaking of which world trigger is about reach its 1 year anniversary and viz still hasn't released volume 1 yet >.< i guess its not that popular so there in no rush to released it in GN form.
I've been catching up on Kill la Kill recently, I just finished ep. 18 and boy. Major spoilers below, you've been warned!
These last few episodes have been amazing. There's not really much to say but it is fantastic, I'm so glad I got back into it. Anyways, I'm really happy to know that Ryuko and Satsuki are biological sisters. In the very first episode I suspected they were for whatever reason possible, just an incliniation and the fact they had the same hair and eye color. I kinda dismissed it after a while, until it showed the unnamed baby that was fused with Life Fibers being abandoned, then it automatically made sense. Especially Ryuko's red hair streak, Ryuko being younger than Satsuki, and Ryuko's resistance to the Marionette Thread, these things seemed to add up until, of course it was said that Ryuko was actually the baby that was abandoned. I know I can't be the only one to guess this early on, I'm just a little surprised it was true. Anyway, can't wait to watch the next episode to find out everything behind it all. I'm probably late to this, I don't even know how many more episodes Ive got left so i guess this is old news to most... Haha. Bah, I'll shut up now.
Okay that's enough of that, so on another note, I'm excited for the new Space Dandy tomorrow, as usual... But I'm also interested in Toonami's new show The Blue Excorcist, but I don't know anything about it really. Hope I'll like it, though.
Even though i'm a fan of One Piece and its characters, how do the games managed to be so terrible?
They don't bring over the good ones apparently, unless it's Dynasty Warriors-related (The Pirate Warriors games are very good, btw). That's the same for most anime games. They have decent ones but for some reason they bring over the crappy ones.
I'm all caught up on History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (manga), BTW.
The masters of Ryozanpaku have come face to face with the masters of Yami for what appears to be the start of a climactic final clash, while Kenichi, Miu, and the Shinpaku Alliance are going to try and take out Yami's nuclear missile silos while the masters are distracted.
Other than that, haven't done much anime & manga wise. For various reasons I haven't even had much luck catching Toonami these past few weeks...

Because I've gotten back into MAL, I won't be putting out many personal NL anime updates. So that means I won't be here or be checking this thread as often. Of course, I'll still give out my opinions and talk about series/episodes that strike me, but they won't be as condensed as they once were. For those still wanting to get my full opinions, you can check my MAL list over here.
Anyways, I do want to discuss the 6th episode of Nobunagun with you guys;
What did you all think about it? While I think the whole plot of the episode could have been done better, it seems as if it was more of a vehicle to get across a lot of concepts. For example, in a 21-minute period we learned who was in Dogoo Team 1, what those individuals' respective strengths + weaknesses were, and what an everyday person's reaction was to the Evolutionary Invasion Objects. Considering that this is supposed to be a 13-episode, straight-up action series I doubt that we'll see another episode take this psuedo-science fiction route, so this was certainly something unique and will remain that way.

Dang, I kinda looked forward to your posts. You're the only one here watching current series that I care about. I tried going to MAL, but I don't really like that site much anymore...

Sorry about that. It's just easier for me to do my heavy anime updating on MAL and post smaller snippets here. If my near-future life goes better than expected I may be able to make something that compensates for my lack of forum-specific anime discussion, but I have no idea how the future will go down and I don't want to make any promises. And of course, if you want to bring up a topic/series I'm sure we can have a couple back-and-forths about it. Otherwise, I'll be sticking to small-talk on NL.

Hey guys, I think I could really use some recommendations. I really want to watch something short-ish that's already finished, but I can't seem to think of anything at the moment. I'm more of an action-guy, but basically I want something with a really good story to it that I actually get to finish, doesn't necessarily need to have action. Doesn't matter if I've seen it before, either.
What don't like: Too much fanservice, too much comedy with no real plot progression, "Non-endings", and episodic series (to a degree).
I would really appreciate some suggestions. It's less about finding something good and more...I can't choose out of the hundreds that I could possibly watch.
@Rocko52 - Good to see your journey to see all the One Piece films is turning out fruitful. I've only really like Strong World and One Piece Film Z, but I've never been much of a film fan, especially with noncanon films based on a larger story. For someone who just wants an enjoyable story without worrying about the larger canon, I'm glad to see some of the movies hold up on their own merits.
