Topic: 2012 Summer Olympic Thread

Football (soccer) is very interesting but shouldn't be in the Olympics. The teams are sub par compared to the real national teams and its just not interesting like the World Cup. In a way there is the same problem with basketball (but different) and tennis since the grand slam is more important and interesting. This time there is a peculiar situation though with the double Wimbledon dip.

So basically, if a team isn't good enough they shouldn't play?

That's not in the spirit of the Olympics.

I really enjoyed the opening ceremony. In fact I think it was the best one I have seen in years. My favorite parts was the Queen jumping out of the plane with James Bond and Mr. Bean. I thought the storybook part was pretty cool too in the fact that you had all those villains from older books like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland and that there was Voldemort from Harry Potter among the greatest villains in literature.

i was blown away, at first i was abit unsure about the whole country side start theme then everything folded out, and it was amazing mr bean, james bond, dont know what was up with the NHS tribute (even if they do give every brit free health care, free dentists, free braces and so on) it has nothing to do with sport or the next generation plus most countries dont know what the NHS is, thank god david beckham didnt light the coldran because he doesnt deserve to. that opening made me pround to be british

Olympics is very boring, can't be bothered with it... however, saying that, I'll watch it now and again as it dominates every bloody channel on the TV! But I have a feeling America is going to get the most golds this year.

As for the opening ceremony... meh, I think it could've been a little bit better, but what Danny did with it was pretty good especially directing all those peoples. Going through the years up to the modern age was actually a pretty nifty idea, but I still think Beijing's opening ceremony was easily the best.

Watched the Ab Fab Olympics episode that'll be enough for me.

@Aviator I'm not sure. I think its a stage for the best to compete. The problem is that the football team is a dumbed down team. Similar to how the U.S wsdnt sending the NBA/dream team. It loses the prestige of winning. It doesn't mean much. In swimming and athletics its always the best and the Olympics are the highlight of the sport making it more intriguing. I enjoy the swimming the best. It was a great first day.

I guess we should ban boxing, wrestling and the the other martial arts from the games because in having the 'amateurs only' rule, those athletes are 'dumbed down.' For that matter, unless you're earning $100+ million a year, you're probably not going to be good enough to compete with the best. All those 'dumbed down' African, South American and Island nations should be barred from ever competing in the Olympics.

I know. Don't have to time or money to ever bit that peak but I'm thinking that body size and maybe muscle size thats a good size. I'd be bigger weight wise than what I am now but still skinny enough to continue to dress like a hipster. Maybe justa tad bit smaller those guys are.

Yes the amateur boxing is also pretty lame actually. And yes having too many nations if they are not good enough in advanced stages hurts the sport. Speaking of judo the new rules allowed the lesser athletes and made the competition unfair since some advanced easily to the quarter finals and some had too difficult opponents in the first round. But let's not confuse reality with hypocrital opinions. Lets ban the nba players again to balance things out and live in pretend land. Thats fun You hear that Federer and Nadal? You're not allowed in anymore. You are borderline offensive and childish apparently lol.
Judo..I am a judoka myself so I love watching that.

I don't really pay attention to the whole olympics that much, but I do like seeing some sports like Baseball and Basketball. Gymnastics are also fun to see. And the opening with Bond and the Queen was gold. And who can forget Mr. Bean.
