Topic: Nintendo really needs to crack down on user in game posts!

Most games are rated E, yet I still see messages in Splatoon 2 promoting causes that are adult and not appropriate for kids.

This has gone on long enough and if anything, just block the whole user image section of Splatoon 2. My wife and I are about fed up with our kids seeing this crap.

For adults who post this stuff, they really need to check themselves. Just who do they think they are helping? If anything it just makes everyone else sick and tired of it.

@Nukester66 I don't have Splatoon 2. What causes?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

It is mainly about Gay/LGBT/Trans stuff. That's pretty tough subject matter for kids. It should not be pushed on kids by anyone at any time. It is the parents job to educate the kids. Kids should worry about what game they will play with their friends, what to eat, NORMAL kid stuff.

It's not as if this society already pushes enough stuff on people. Let kids be kids.

It just adds trash to an already crappy game. Shame on you nintendo.

The game is a lot of fun, even for adults. While waiting for my daughter to get ready for school in the morning, I play a few rounds of turf war. It has it's problems, but it's enjoyable to play once in a while.

Well, not only kids play the game, and it gives you the option of disabling the posts if you find them inappropriate.

I doubt nintendo will bother deleting every single message that may bother anyone, since that will end up bothering other people. Specially the ones you specifically mention.

Should they have a bit more control and better filters? Yeah absolutely. But, well, they don't. I'm afraid the only thing you can do is disabling them.

But when a company rates a game as E and makes it's main gameplay requirement that the user be online, then they have the obligation to censor/monitor this. This is could easily become a legal issue for them. Who cares if it bothers someone, they shouldn't have posted adult subject matter in the first place. I consider the posts partly pedophilia related, as it is influencing/harming children about sexual subject matter they did not ask be put in front of them.

Do the people who post that crap think beyond their social media face?

Look again at the rating in the box.

"Online Interactions are not rated by the ERSB"

The game is rated E10+, but that rating does not include or consider anything the players may create.

It already gives you the power to ignore all the posts, so use that.

Good catch on that one, but E10+ are still not adults and a kid at 10 shouldn't be discussing this stuff anyways. It is still adult subject matter.

I checked out the Splatoon 2 twitter account and you know what? They retweet pro-LGBT stuff. Now that is some real crap right there.

Don't get me wrong. Gay people deserve to be treated just like everyone else, and I respect that. But they aren't being treated like everyone else. They are allowed to say things about their cause in front of people, when other causes get censored or put down. People just need to learn that it only deepens opinions against their own cause, when it is forced.

Since the onslaught of "online media", kids seem to have nowhere to hide, but their own homes (good parents get them away from this stuff).

I was afraid this would happen, please let's not devolve this into a "moral" discussion.

If you have nothing else to talk about, I'll have to close the thread.

Not meaning to go there, sorry. The point is that it's a game for kids to adults. If anything, make sexual discussion/topics off limits to the game. How is that?

@Nukester66 While I agree that kids shouldn't be exposed to such things, the LGBT community will blow up if their posts get censored, and they probably wouldn't stop until Nintendo changed it back. That's kinda just how society thinks and operates, unfortunately.

The best thing to do is probably to just disable it.

@Nukester66 I can see why you're bothered by that kinda stuff in games you want your kids to play but it's just like Meowpheel said. All you can do is disable the posts for good.

Things like that are the main reason why games have that extra bit about the interaction with other people online in their ratings. It's the same everywhere afaik.

That of course is always an option, but how many parents really sit down and watch the games their kids play to make sure there isn't inappropriate content? It really shouldn't be there to begin with. I just happen to enjoy taking turns playing this with my daughter. We have "Splatfest" weekends . I would never have caught this stuff otherwise.

I believe there's some merit to this discussion which is why I gave some slack, but if any other post goes off the rails (politics, religion, anything like that) then the thread will be closed.

I agree with you! My argument is that the content shouldn't be there to begin with. I don't care what the cause, it really doesn't belong in this game.

Parents rely on Nintendo to supply some very high quality games for kids, which we know isn't full of blood/gore/sexual content. That's why we buy this particular console and ecosystem. When they let that fall apart, might as well just move on?

I dunno, I mean the point has already been made...Not much we can do about it other than to disable it and move on.
