Which electroplankton is the best?

Cringing is really fun.

BleachFan

I love the sounds in Luminarrow. It never fails to make a beat you can sway to, no matter what you do. It's a very creative one that is relaxing to play.

On the other hand, Hannenbow lets you be more creative. With 4 different areas, and an endless list of possibilities with the leaves, there's definitely a lot to be done with it! However, it can be rather difficult to make beats with it sometimes...But when you do, it sounds awesome!

With that said, I'd say it's a tie between those two...

I'm working on a game that's coming out soon!

I only have hannenbow, and I really enjoy that. But, whatever your choice, it must be between Luminarrow, Hanenbow, and Beatnes. Those are the three best, undoubtedly.

I've been thinking of trying a few of them out as well... hm, I liked mario paint (on the snes).. but I can't decide! lol

I love rpgs and platformers the most... racing games are good too!
I have a black dsi and a blue 3DS. :D

Must I post another review thing?
Alright, if you insist.
[blue]Trapy[/blue]: on this game, you draw a line with your stylus to make a trapy[a certain type of electroplankton follow it. There are 7 trapys on-screen, which means you can have seven lines at a time. When you draw a line, the trapy follows it at the same rate you drew it. If the line goes to the right, the trapy makes high pitched noises as it follows it. If the line goes to the left, the trapy makes low-pitched noises following it. It’s pretty fun, but I would not get this one if you had to choose. 5/10
Untitled
[blue]Hanenbow[/blue]: On this game, you have trees with a few leaves, and you have tadpole-like electroplankton called hanenbow shooting up out of water into the trees. When the hanenbow hit the leaves, they make a noise. Different parts of the leaves make different pitched noises. The hanenbow bounce of the leaves depending on the angle the leave is at, and the angle the hanenbow hit it from [yes, it does use actual physics]. There are 4 different tree combinations for you to play with. It’s definitely one of the more fun electroplanktons, and it is definitely one to consider. 8/10
Untitled
[blue]Luminarrow[/blue]: In this electroplankton, you have a 6 x 6 grid of arrows, and 4 electroplanktons called luminarrows. When you touch a luminarrow, it starts moving along the arrows, going whatever direction the arrow is pointing. Every time a luminarrow passes over an arrow, the arrow makes a sound. Each arrow has a different assigned pitch when a luminarrow passes over it. Each luminarrow moves at a different rate, and each luminarrow has a different sound when passing over arrows. You can change the direction the arrows are pointing by touching them. This is also one of the better electroplanktons, and it’s fun to play with. Definitely one to consider.8/10
Untitled
[blue]Sun-Animalcule[/blue]: In this game, all you see is a blank colorful screen. Where ever you touch it with your stylus, a tiny electroplankton called a sun-animalcule appears. Each sun-animalcule makes noises over time [in a rythym], and the pitch method is similar to Trapy [left is low pitched, right is high]. After about five minutes, the colors on-screen change to reflect a different time of day. When the screen is dark and it is "night", instead of sun-shaped sun-animalcules appearing, moon-shaped Falcatos appear, which make a different sound. This is also a fun electroplankton, and I would recommend it, though not as highly as Luminarrow, Beatness, or Hanenbow. 7/10
Untitled
[blue]Rec-Rec[/blue]: In this game, you have 4 fish-like electroplanktons called Rec-Recs swimming across the screen. If you tap on a Rec-Rec, the next time it swims across the screen the microphone will star recording your voice [or whatever it is you are recording]. There’s not much else to it, but you can use the up and down pads on the d-pad to change the backround track. This is definitely NOT one of the better electroplanktons, and is not worth it. 3/10
Untitled
[blue]Nanocarp[/blue]: In this electroplankton, there are 16 small electroplanktons called Nanocarps on the screen. If you tap the screen, a small shockwave in the shape of a circle spreads out, causing the nanocarps to make a noise if they are hit. If you make a noise into the microphone [or press select if you aren’t in a place where noise is a good idea], the nanocarps will form a shape or formation. Pressing different directions on the D-pad make a shockwave in a line go from one side of the screen to the other, causing the nanocarps to make different noises. This one is pretty fun, but not as good as Hanenbow or Luminarrow. 5/10
Untitled
[blue]Lumiloop[/blue]: In this electroplankton, there are 5 O-shaped electroplanktons called lumiloops on the screen. If you hold down your stylus on them and make circles with it, the lumiloops will start to spin, making hypnotic lovely sounds. If you spin all five at once, it makes a very pleasing noise, and is great for soothing. Spinning them clockwise makes a different noise from spinning counterclockwise. There are 3 different sets of Lumiloops, with each set being a group of 5 electroplanktons. Each set has lumiloops that make different sounds. This electroplankton game is relaxing and sounds cool, but it’s still not as good as Hanenbow, Luminarrow, or sun-animalcule. 4/10
Untitled
[blue]Marine-Crystals[/blue]: In this electroplankton, there are many snowflake-like electroplanktons, Marine-Crystals, in a grid pattern, or making a shape. If you touch a Marine-Crystal, it makes a sound very similiar to a piano key. Each Marine-Crystal makes a different pitched note, and all the electroplanktons switch places as you touch them. There are 4 different sets of Marine-Crystals. This one would be more enjoyable if the Marine-Crystals didn’t move, but alas, they do. It’s not quite as good as sun animalcule, but it’s about as fun as nanocarp. 6/10
Untitled
[blue]Beatness[/blue]: in this one, you have 5 electroplanktons, each with a head segment, a tail segment, and 8 small body segments in-between the head and tail. In the backround, there is a classic nintendo game music playing. Every time you touch a segment, it makes a sound, which repeats after 8 beats. There are 4 classic nintendo songs to choose from, with each song having it’s own set of sounds. This is definitely one of the better electroplanktons, tying with hanenbow, and luminarrow. 8/10
Untitled
[blue]Varvoice[/blue]: On this electroplankton, you have a tear-drop shaped creature called a varvoice on the screen. When you touch the varvoice, the mic starts recording, just like in Rec-Rec. After it has finished recording, whatever was recorded starts playing back repeatedly. There are many different shapes along the bottom of the screen, and when you touch one, the recording will be changed in some way. You can also clear the recording. This electroplankton is sort of like a simple version of the DSi sound app, and is thus not worth it. 1/10
Untitled
[blue]Overall[/blue] Some people may realize that there is a cartridge release with all 10 of these, but it is very rare, and can be very exspensive. The electroplanktons all have a certain art style. The visuals look great, and they match the sound well. If you are a sound or music person, then Electroplankton is for you. If you are going to get any, then I suggest [in order] luminarrow, hanenbow, beatness, sun animalcule, or marine crystals.

how many more times will I have to post this? Oh, and ignore the "[blue]text[/blue]", I just copied my review from DSihub.

@110percentful

Thanks for the reviews/suggestions. I was thinking about downloading a few when they were first released, but was a little turned off by the low scores on nintendolife and decided to hold off. I downloaded Luminarrow, Hanenbow and Beatness yesterday and have enjoyed them. Luminarrow in particular... I played that for 3 hours straight last night.. but then I had to go to bed I may download a few more, but I'll have to get another points card. I can't wait!

I love rpgs and platformers the most... racing games are good too!

Beatnes and Hanenbow

I like Hanenbow the best because it's the one that's most like an actual game rather than just a concept to play around with.

I've downloaded Beatnes, Hanenbow, Luminarrow and Rec Rec. I thought Rec Rec was too fiddly and didn't like it. The other three are very decent.

Thanks for the reviews, 110percentful! I ended up downloading your top three and I love them! Always wanted to play Electroplankton.

Trapy is actually one of the best, if you fool around with it long enough and learn how to control the sounds better. Quite deep, and easily the most flexible of all in terms of the sounds you can manage to produce.

Hanenbow is probably the best of all in my mind. Nothing comes close to the fusion of visual design and musical fiddling in that one.

I consider Trapy to be one of the harder to use. It uses the same basic pitch system as nanocarp and Sun Animalcule, but it takes a while to figure out how to make actual music.

Just let it happen.

Blue_Cat

I just downloaded Luminarrow 2 days ago. At first I was disappointed, but the more I play it, the more I like it. I guess I'm getting better at making music with it

I also really like Hanenbow. I agree with Wariowoods; the music making is great, and it looks so cool too!

The crucial thing with Trapy is to slow it down by pressing the left arrow a few times -- it's way to fast by default, so that you can't really appreciate all the sounds. From there, a bit of experimentation will turn out some great results.

It's hard for me to decide on a personal favorite. I've spent a huge amount of time on Hanenbow, but Beatnes gets a lot of use also.

Just let it happen.
