I was wondering if when you trade a pokemon if you keep the pokeball and the pokemon is just put into it, or if the pokeball is given to the person you traded with. If you DO keep the pokeball, then you could use that to keep re-using the masterball you get when you defeat Cyrus, by trading the hard to get pokemon for a pokemon you'd release and then put the rare pokemon into a normal pokeball?

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Once caught, a Pokemon will forever inhabit the Pokeball it was caught with. You can check what kind of Ball that was on the status screen, and it will remain persistent even if the Pokemon is traded or transferred.

I never understood why we can't change the caught Ball like in the anime, to prevent Master Ball spam Master Balls used could be permanent or discarded when switching.

What TheNintendOtaku said exactly, you'll see this Pokeball get sent out when the Pokemon gets put into battle, its definitely more apparent in the console versions when the ball gets sent out.

But also as TheNintendOtaku said, you can see their original ball in the status screen.

AND in the anime, when Ash trades his Pokemon with others, he gives them the original Pokeball too.

Ok, thanks for the answers. It's a little disappointing the only way you can use another master ball is to win one. Ah well, it'll keep trying to catch legendaries interesting
