You may have to just keep looking for the explosive ball or a large planet in AB. I'm not entirely sure about this, but maybe the locations of items and planets are randomized, as the locations of planets from easy to hard mode changed drastically. Try using the radar tool, orange dots are items, blue are planets and yellow are earth map pieces.
