I just beat the story since it was very short (talk to these people, go out with that person, throw a party, BAM, your famous), but I like it. Talking to people is fun and it is kinda like the sims, it has the motives like it. Sometimes its kinda funny seeing how people act, seeing a guy in the bathroom dizzy after taking "vitamans", a drunk guy vomiting in the street, seeing two people having an argument, or even having an unexpected awkward moment with a person of the same gender (kinda surprised me when a guy who was washing dishes said "kiss me.....on the lips" o_0 lol). Anyway, customization is there, diferent shirts and pants, and also some hairstyles, some are nice looking. And decorating your house is pretty much getting a bigger version of an item you start with and changing its color, a nice touch at the least. You pick what your goal is, like an actor, or a model, golden boy (?), and so on. What you pick affects the person you invite at the end of the story, which you can breeze through in about an hour and a half, maybe shorter. Your neighbor, the person who helps you throughout the story, says there is more to do, like relationships, rising higher in fame, or exploring. While I'm on the subject, there are a lot of places to explore, from police departments to clubs, streets to alleyways, or your house(s). The game is played by either the stylus or the buttons, sometimes the stylus controls will leave you mindlessly tapping aroung your character just so you can get the menu up to leave an area, or accidently talking to another character standing next to where you wanna go, so I'd stick with button controls. Overall, it is a nice little social simulation game. Although it would be nice if the story lasted a bit longer, stylus controls were more accurate, characters you're talking to would say a lot more things than "I don't slide that way" "I don't really care" or "Try to be kind" but emotion bubbles are fine. A nice DSiware game, and recommended: a 7/10.
I'm not sure what you mean buy free play, but you could walk around the city make some friends, or enemies (after that guy said he wanted me to kiss me, I tried to steal from him and he got really mad). Or you can go on dates, buy clothes decorate your place and stuff. Like I said before, yes, the game is short. But apparently there is more to do after the story is finished. Maybe ranking higher as a celebrity, but not sure how. I never played American Popstar, and I'm not sure I'll download it since I'm saving my points for the big holiday update. But I might in the future. Its like the sims, motives and customization and all, but its good fun, not sure what to do now, but I'll stick with my 7/10. I think it would be better off as a 500 point game, but I recommend it if you have a couple hours to kill.
Sounds like American Popstar is the better, more worthwhile package. Have you played that? If so, care to compare the two?
I was thinking about it, and I decided: you know what, I'll probly get a points card for christmas so I'll download American Popstar and see which is better, cuz I'm nice like that. Plus I'm intrested in this because I liked Miami Nights a lot. I'll say my thoughts on which is the better choice in a while.
i wish there was a online play mode..... but that would make it a mmo like maple story.....
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

I've played about, I'd say, an hour of American Popstar, and from what I've played so far, American Popstar and Miami Nights is the same game! The two games are about the same story, you trying to make it big and famous. When you socialize with people, its the same, pick the icon you want to do or say, except in popstar there is the ability to compete against a person you don't like in a dance or singing contest. The graphics in popstar are more detailed than the pixely maple story-like look of miami. There are minigames throughout the story of popstar, from dancing to singing to recording stuff and putting it on an ingame site that seems like myspace. From the look at the overworld map, there looks like there will be a lot of places to go. Miami had a good deal of places to visit, but I hope theres a lot more in popstar. I wouldn't call Miami Nights a huge ripoff because it has a lot of features popstar didn't, and I still like miami nontheless. The verdict: both are good games (maybe because they pretty much are the same game and are both 800 points), but I'd have to say American Popstar only because it has more features and seems more polished. It may have some girly-like themes, but it is a good game, just don't let your friends find out you have this on your DSi menu, plus, miami is too short. But it doesn't mean its bad. So it doesn't matter which one you buy anyway, there both the same.
