Well, the first time I saw it was back on the launch night on G4 (actually on Filter's special E3 2004 episode, the show's cancelled ) and I never considered it to be a big fail for Nintendo.

So my questions to you are:

1. What were your initial thoughts of the Nintendo DS at first.
2. What were your thoughts when you finally got one of your own?

1. 2 screens?! One that's touch sensitive?! 3-D Graphics?! OH HECKS YEAH!!! XD

2. I was right! It's AAAAAWWWWEEESSSOOOMMMMEEEE!!!

1. What a piece of crap
2.Looks like I was wrong. Although to be fair the DS did suck for the first year of so.

When it came out, I thought it would be the best thing since swiss cheese. When I got it, I thought it was a piece of crap. It took almost a year for that to change.

I actually thought that it was cool and the double screen, one of them being touch screen, seemed amazing. I never saw the PSP being a success.

But even so...I never imagined that the DS would be THAT succesful. I thought that it couldn't ever surpass GB line and I don't think I was the only one.

I thought the dual screens were pointless. I still do. I thought touch screen wouldn't see much good use, and that still looks to be the case, though it sees better use than the Wii remote, generally. That said, it's a Nintendo handheld. I didn't care about the goofy features, I knew it'd eventually have a good library of games.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

1) Mommy! Look at that! Can I get it?
2) This is awesome!
I got mine before I was REALLY into gaming, and I was young. I still love it, and I never disliked it.

Just let it happen.

Blue_Cat

At first I was kind of apprehensive about it. I mostly wanted to stick to my GBA SP.
But then, when I got the DS, I forgot about the. . . thing.

This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

I honestly didn't pay attention to the DS at all until I saw the first commercial for NSMB... a brand new Mario platformer on a handheld system? heck yeah I wanted that. When it came out, my husband and I had the money, so we both went out and bought our lites, NSMB, and MKDS. Man, that was fun. :3

1) I wanted one so badly when I heard of it
2) First game was Nintendogs, showed some good use of the touch screen IMO. Loved the crap out of it

I thought the PSP would dominate the market.

I remember at launch people saying the DS wasn't good because Mario 64 was the only high-profile launch game, and it had terrible touch control (which is why they included D-pad movement control). Therefore they blamed it on the system.
Unlike the PSP, which had a real hardware problem, as I remember. Nevermind, I forgot. "Sticky buttons" were a feature Sony was trying out.

I probably thought it was a tad odd, but I wanted it anyways.

My friend got one pretty early after launch, SM64DS was enough to convince how sweet it was, but I still took a while to get one. (I think I may not have even had a GBA at the time)

Knux

1.I wanted one badly.
2.It is one of the best handhelds ever made.

1: Awesome!
2: I was right, it's awesome!

EDIT: I just remembered, when I first got my DS I also got Pokemon LeafGreen and I thought it would show a map or something on the bottom screen, but it didn't and I was disappointed...
