Nintendo is looking into localizing games on the DS that were previously Japan only. So this means newer games for the DS, which will keep a bagillion DS owners happy even though DS will be replaced by the 3DS. From what I hear there are a lot of games, such as Blood of Bahamut, 7th Dragon, Soma Bringer, to name a few.
Here is a video of Soma Bringer...which looks a fun game! [youtube:jqyB9AqKdAQ]
Soma bringer looks good and I would like the 3 tales of ds games localized. Even though it doesn't look as good as the other two, Tales of the temest is the one I would like localized the most because Tales of innocence and Tales of hearts have fan translations so I would still be able to get them if they aren't localized. I would also like G.G. series collection+ localized but that probably won't happen until the original 14 games in the series are released on western dsiware.
Throw in some Tales of games and I can die happy. Seriously.
edit: Actually, if they do start publishing Square's properties somehow, I'd love it if they also brought over SaGa 2 and SaGa 3. Summon Night X and SRT: OG Saga Endless Frontier EXCEED from Namco Bandai would also be dandy. Unfortunately, both companies can be pretty stubborn, so I doubt it'll happen. I'd buy them all if they did come out, and I'd sell my kidney to afford them if I have to.
Localizing older games for the Nintendo DS is a really good idea and will certainly help extend the DS's lifespan in the long run.
Nintendo might also put emphasy on newer franchises that came around the debut of the 3DS and add installment for them, just like what happened with the NES.
If any DS owner don't want to spend their money on a 3DS, there are alot of games coming (Okamiden, the new kirby, those you mentioned, golden sun phantom detective) but there are also old very good games (TWETY, Advance Wars, the legendary starfy, mario & lugi, etc) so the DS still have a long life, I have just bought lufia and super scribblenauts, but they are probably not gonna be the last DS games.
