Topic: Do it up. Number Battle releases today...

Made by Mitchell Corp. (of Magnetica, Polarium, etc.), Number Battles is a strategy/board game based around numbers (somewhat similar to dominoes) with great worldwide online multiplayer (2-4 players). It was released as a retail title in Japan and thusly, comes as a rather substantial DSi download. The European version was well-reviewed here and at IGN, and I believe it to be one of the best titles on DSiware for strategy, puzzle, and board game fans alike.

Don't let the unassuming name and bland-looking screenshots turn you off. This gem is a bargain at 500 pts.

Nice shout out to a game that will mostly go overlooked.

A life well wasted...I'm working on it.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough--I meant to say that it was well-reviewed at both Nintendolife and IGN... My bad.

Eitherway, I agree that Number Battle will likely be tragically overlooked, which is particularly unfortunate for a game with such an online component. But it was probably doomed from the start by the simple-looking visuals and difficult-to-express gameplay/appeal. Chalk it up as more proof that game design and content aren't enough alone to survive in the marketplace (as if it was needed).

I will probably pick it up. I'm intrigued because it represents a unique gameplay concept.

Just downloaded and tried it out. Took me a couple of minutes to get what was going on. Once I have a bit more time I can say whether I really like it or not. So far, so good.

I have no idea what this game is, but I'm downloading it tonight

Took more time to play it last night while my son (aged almost 3) enjoyed watching some Nick Jr. I had the ah-ha moment where I finally got the game and it is really a lot of fun. Easily worth the 500 pts.

Everyone try a wifi game as soon as possible, because we should have our first monthly tournament this weekend. Should take about half an hour.

Sunday the 31st - 11AM Pacific, 2PM EST, 19:00 GMT
Monday the 1st - 11AM PST, 2PM EST, 19:00 GMT
[This was posted at 2:04PM EST, so at the same time as this post. I posted two days so that everyone should be able to make at least one of them.]

If these times are bad for you, we can change it to a better time on Sunday or Monday, or make it a different day.

LEGEND_MARIOID

The most underrated game on dsiware by far (not underrated by this site though)

"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."

I've had this game for ages and I agree. It's absolutely brilliant. I've put more than 20 hours of gameplay into this and I'm still not sick of this.

Might gave it a try when I pick up my next points card, maybe..........Is it like bomberman where you can have a choice between region or worldwide battles,or is a all together?

Well you can choose between regional and worldwide but I always choose Worldwide as I've never once gotten an opponent in Regional. It's a real shame as this game is brilliant.

Yeah, it really is. Mitchell are one of my favourite developers - they're so, so classy - everything they do drips with this gorgeous minimalistic style.

Number Battle is a must have DSiWare game. It's a great little board game.

jdarrell

I think the North America version is worldwide only? Stayed up to finish all the gold medals last night, I don't think the AI vs is ever going to get old for me.

I'm worried that the wifi isn't as active as I'd like; NintendoLife or DSiHub should set-up a web app for people to meet up for DSiWare wifi games.

No shows. If anyone wants a game, post in the next hour, and I'll come to worldwide.

I'll try again at 8PM EST tomorrow.

Sorry, bout that jdarrell. I've been so busy I haven't even been able to dl it yet... But I hope to rectify that tomorrow, after which I'd be down for a wifi match or three. Not sure if tomorrow night will work for me... I'll post in here before 8PM EST if I'll be around.

I'll have to get this from the Japanese shop (There seem to be a number of games that have both cart and DSiWare releases, see also Mr. Driller and Space Invaders Extreme). I looked at it, but couldn't quite figure out what was going on, but the review does sound quite good.
