For my game, think Faxanadu meets a much tighter control scheme meets Castlevania....there's gonna be a light leveling system, but no shop system. The game uses 3 button+D-pad control -> Jump button jumps, attack attacks (or up+attack attacks higher with a slightly shorter range, which is crucial for weak-point hitting and adds some variety to battling), and magic button fires a spell, with Up or Down + Magic button casting a different spell (3 in total, all ice-based due to storyline). It should be a couple hours of well-programmed fun if I ever get my company's current casual-app project out of the way (which I can't announce either.....curse the concept of the non-disclosure agreement!)

@warioswoods - is it too late to add you to my Favorite NindendoLife user forum? Your gaming tastes are so similar to mine I had to check and make sure I hadn't pulled a Tyler Durden and grown a second personality. But yeah, CV3 is my ultimate platforming action game.

Right now, the above-mentioned game will be a PC-only freebie, but if I can get CMI jacked about it, I would absolutely love to release it, budget-priced with our graphic artists providing actual hawtness, on various downloadable services. Baby steps, eh? But yeah Adam--I'd seriously, SERIOUSLY recommend Drac's Curse for NES. Aside from Crash Commando for PSN a couple weeks ago (not sure if it's still on sale for 4.99), Drac's Curse is the best 500 points you can spend.

and for platforming-difficulty comment - Castlevania is one-directional jumping. No mid-air directional changes. Key to castlevania jumping - maximim castlevania jump is 2 blocks forward and 2 blocks up, at once. This jump is only makable, in true megaman fashion, by jumping with your char's legs on the very edge of the last couple pixels of the block you're jumping from. Take it from someone who's beaten the original without getting hit (yes, that person's me ) - the control system is actually quite precise, you just gotta work at it a bit. I'd take it over Sonic's slidey generic-ness any day of the week.

Put down Faxanadu as another game I haven't played, but I'm watching a Youtube run of it right now, and it looks great. Very Zelda 2-esque. Shame it's not on VC.

you're tellin' me man...it's one of those games that could benefit so much from a WiiWare "update" but sadly, won't happen due to "what's Faxanadu?" syndrome.

Agreed, Sonic bores the hell out of me.

So I'd be Brad Pitt, right?

No....you're the slutty suicidal girl. How did you not see that?--I went out of my way to make that allusion as obvious as possible.

Faxanadu, one of my best memories from the NES era. If you haven't played it, you owe yourself a try.

Anyways, back on topic.. Anyone know if we'll ever see a metroid-esque castlevania again? Any rumors on if IGA is busy on another title? It worries me that this part of castlevania will be lost with their supposed "reboot" of the series :/

Since when did Castlevania ever need a reboot, it's a solid franchise with lots and lots of fans. I'd rather take another SotN clone than a pure 3d action adventure any day of the week.

What Reboot? The Console Castlevanias have always been 3D action games, ever since Castlevania on the N64. They're simply continuing the tradition.

They are referring to it as a reboot, I believe. The story is supposed to be starting fresh, and the action will be more like Devil May Cry. This is just what I've heard, bear in mind. I can't remember if I read this from gaming press, a quote from Kojima himself, or just some random speculation thread.

I guess they're just rebooting the PS2 games...because that's exactly what you decribed right there.

Let's hope it stays with rebooting the 3d versions and they don't overstep their boundaries with the portable ones!

Bumping because I'm rocking Portrait of Ruin. It's loads of fun, though it's the hardest Metroidvania I've played. Not that I'm complaining.

Someday I'll get back to Rondo of Blood. I'm stuck on the final stage, which is soooo hard.T_T I watched a stream, and after, like, 2 hours, they weren't able to beat it. I stopped watching after a while. I'll get to it someday, though. Someday...

I also played the demo of Castlevania: Lord of Shadows. I played it on Hard, like a real man (and got my bum handed to me by the boss like a champ ). The lack of camera control was a bit frustrating, but other than that, I'm excited to play the full game, once I have the time and money.
