@Rafx: I don't want to go back to Kalos yet, but I wouldn't mind if gen VII elaborated on Zygarde and its role in the Pokémon world. I don't really get all these loose ends some people are using as proof that this gen has to be connected with gen VI.
So how many of you think or hope this will be a whole new game, or a continuation of a previous gen (ex: finishing up x and y or a composite of all the other gens)? Why?
If Kalos isn't in SM or at least in the works for the next game, I'm done with Pokemon. Kalos needs a major facelift and if they're not going to bother giving it one, that says a lot about what we can expect for the quality of future regions. Say what you want about third versions/sequels being cheap, but they're a necessarily evil for providing a fully fleshed out, high quality Pokemon game. If we don't get them anymore then expect to see a lot more games like XY.
I think Kalos will be in Sun/Moon either via the GSC method with Kanto (new region and then travel to Kalos) or Sun/Moon actually taking place in Kalos and the Direct trailer having only revealed a part of the game which isn't in XY to give people false expectations.
So for example, I don't think we know where Xerneas/Yveltal were captured before being brought to the Secret HQ (it's been awhile so I may be wrong) hence they could be on a new island (the one shown in the Direct trailer) and after catching up with them you have some battles then some grunts narrowly escape with the legendary but you not knowing where they went and so the standard adventure continues. After the game is finished that extra area could be the post game featuring stuff like Battle Frontier, the Zygarde story, etc.
I don't think Kalos will be in Sun/Moon at all. The most you can hope for is some sort of "Episode Z" in the post game that deals with Zygarde. Otherwise I think we'll just be given the formes in Sun/Moon and the plot for it will remain anime exclusive.
This is a new generation, so expect focus on a new region, new plot (as far as Pokemon plots go ), new Pokemon, etc.
@IceClimbers: I'm still not convinced it's a new generation. Sun/Moon has the potential to be a B2/W2 for XY. Think about just how little has been revealed about the games too, for XY we knew much more about Kalos this time 3 years ago than we know about Sun/Moon. What we know about Sun/Moon is comparable to what someone would know about ORAS this time 2 years ago if they knew nothing about RSE.
Depends on what you mean by new, there's Ash Greninja plus Zygarde 10%, Zygarde cells, Zygarde cores, Zygarde 100%, Zygarde 68%, Zygarde 34%, Zygarde 58%, Zygarde 18% and a new gift legendary that isn't in the game.
@Grumblevolcano: It has already been confirmed that we are getting, and I quote: "a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures to discover!" Unless we chose to define a generation in Pokémon by some new criteria, this is a new generation.

A New World could mean some new areas to explore in an old region.
New Pokemon, well we know we are getting 10 new Pokemon and new Megas. (Mega Meganium, here we come)
New Adventures means there is a new Story or something like Deta Episode in ORAS.
We will just have to see when they release new info.

Wouldn't that be more like "return to X area, where more stuff awaits"? Because a "new world" implies, well, a new world. Just having new areas would be misleading.
New World is a very open term that can be used in different ways. Also the New Areas might be large enough where "New World" makes sense.
Personally, I am hoping for a new Region but 10 new Pokemon sounds low, even if you don't include evolution forms. Especially when new starters take up 3 of those slots, then 2 for the cover legendaries, throw in 3 for the new roaming legendaries, and you are left with 2 new Pokemon elsewhere. If they include evolutions then that is even less.
However, 1 way to expand those 10 new Pokemon further would be to recycle Starters. It would also be a great way to celebrate the anniversary. What if you got to choose from any of the previous starters? Choose any starter from Gen 1 to Gen 6. Then they wouldn't need new Starters which would open up those 3 slots from above. Still a low count but that could be interesting.

@arronishere: I'm pretty sure Mr. Masuda was referring to 'proper' brand new Pokemon. If you watch the corresponding bit of the show, you can see the discussion of new Pokemon is motivated by the picture the new bird Pokemon's wire frame model.
Shoko Nakagawa establishes that it's not Fletching, and another member of the cast asks, "Could you tell us whether or not there will there be new Pokemon [in the games]?" (assuming to answer to be "yes"). Mr. Masuda responds, "Yes, there will be new Pokemon" (in an open and congenial matter, as if to say "as you would expect"). Ms. Nakagawa then asks, "Then... how many will there be!?", to which Mr. Masuda replies (with a slightly foxish grin), "At least... 10 new Pokemon" (in the same speech style, as if to confirm something the listener would already know or assume, rather than divulging anything particularly new). It's quite clear he's not wishing to give away any groundbreaking information, but is happy to confirm the assumption that there will be a new 'batch' of Pokemon in the new games. Also, though it's difficult to tell exactly Ms. Nakagawa says after that as everyone is laughing, I'm pretty sure it's something like, "Give us more to go on than that!!", strongly implying the "10" comment was not to taken at face value.
There's then a question about whether the number of Mega Evolutions will increase ("There WILL be more Mega Evolutions right... right!?), to which Mr. Masuda doesn't even answer (or if he does, the answer is cut). The presenters then bug him for Mega Weavile and Mega Greninja (to which he simply smiles), and finally he's asked to divulge one secret to the Pokemon House. And that secret is...
"Pikachu will feature".
So yeah, the whole broadcast was about a far from revelatory as you could get, but it does really sound like a clean break. Also, I can't believe there the games would be presented in the way they were if we were just getting X&Y2. They're really building them up as the culmination of 20 of Pokemon, and the company has been keen to grow the hype around that. To my eyes, it really seems that they're being presented as stand-alone titles, rather than just sequels. That's not to say featuring Kalos isn't an option, but I really don't expect it to be where the game is prominently based.
I guess we might find out next week. Does anyone know how long before CoroCoro's release date the leaks usually come? And speaking of which... does anyone know when the release date actually IS?
Yeah, pretty sure the 10 Pokemon thing was a joke. Not sure why everyone is taking it so seriously.
Because that is all the information we have lol. I sure hope their are more. Hunting/Collecting is my favorite thing about Pokemon and this year is the year I finish the Live Pokedex before Sun and Moon release

I think the most concrete proof that Sun/Moon are a new generation is that the page that mentions being able to transfer Pokemon from RBY via Pokemon Bank also mentions being able to transfer from XY/ORAS via the same method.
If Sun/Moon were Gen 6 games, they wouldn't have mentioned being able to transfer through Bank as you'd be able to just trade them directly.
Its definitely a new generation. The teaser video that we've been tricked into watching at least twice now goes something like:
"2010, 2013, and now, in 2016!" when it showed B/W, X/Y, and then Sun/Moon respectively
Notice how the announcer didn't stop on 2012 for B2W2 or 2014 for ORAS. They only showed the first games of each generation and didn't show the sequels, implying that Sun and Moon will be new main series games too.
So CoroCoro should be leaking in the next couple days. I wouldn't expect anything major. Highly possible that we'll get the cinema event details for this year's movie. Volcanion is the pre-booking event, but we don't know what this year's cinema event is. The Sun/Moon "coverage" could simply be "Magearna will in Pokemon Sun/Moon!".
@IceClimbers: I doubt that the Sun and Moon coverage would be something so obvious. I'd truthfully expect as little as a new Pokemon reveal, or something similar to Mega Mewtwo where they play up the mystery of a new feature. Something like: "What is this new (insert whatever it is here) and what does it have to do with the blabla region!?" At the very most I'd expect a potential region/starter reveal.
We'll probably just get official artwork for that new route 1 bird though hahaha.
I hope they actually put some effort into the creature designs this time. The last two grass starters have been pathetic and—though I liked a lot of the XYORAS designs—there have been a lot of chibi scribbles passed off as pokemon.
