From what I'm hearing, the plot is decent, the single player campaign is longish, and the difficulty is higher than in the last few gens. Almost everything I've wanted from a Pokemon game for years. Although everyone in the beginning of the game is too darned upbeat and one-note. I'd love for another Pokemon game to feature a character like N.

Great to hear about the story length and difficulty
I know i've read people aren't a fan of the Gen 1 and 2 pandering but honestly as much as i love Pokemon it gets to be a bit much with how many of them are now gotta be pushing 800 i know when i had ORAS and X/Y i was just happy getting every Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon
Not related to these games but still keep kicking myself when i didn't have a 3DS i lost access to my Pokemon Bank had all the event Pokemon in Canada from X/Y to ORAS think i had something like 400-500 on the pokedex so had to start over with just OR thinking about getting X/Y again or just AS
Gen 1 pandering is smart so long as they don't go too far with it. Those of us who grew up with the GB games and are now in our late twenties/early thirties are a large, viable demographic.

Well, they've been pandering to Kanto for two games now (with an early 2000s intermission). If they continue at this rate, it won't be long before we actually don't use any first generation pokemon — instead preferring their mega evolutions, alolan forms, and, oh, let's say "Zeo-Stigmata Reversions."
@IceClimbers Fantastic. I haven't seen something like that happen since Whitney's OP Miltank in Gold/Silver (I still have nightmares about that thing).

Well so far I'm enjoying the game a lot. However, the beginning is pretty slow. It's been a long day so I'm tired and don't have the patience for it, plus the Alolan music makes me sleepy...
Also, don't forget to transfer your Ash-Greninja and get the Munchlax mystery gift!
So the story is subjevtively good and the game is "hard". The first doesnt matrer to me but the 2nd best be for a reason thats called good design as opposed to gen 2 with weak trainers, low level wild pokemon even up to the 8th badge, and important trainers bringing death upon you.

I'm glad the game is hard. Though I hope it's not too hard, it does feel like a lot of the game has become very casual. I'm looking forward to the challenge.
Overall this seems a lot like Gen 5 but with less Pokémon which seems good to me since that's my main problem with Gen 5.
@Calllack I will actually contest that in this case, regarding Gen 5 and number of Pokémon.
From what we have seen this game falls into one of the main problems with Kalos, in that these limited numbers of new Pokémon, are infrequent. Put at the back as it were, the rarer encounters. XY did this too. With Black and White, all you got was new Pokémon and they kept them coming so it was always something new. Black and White 2 hit the balance. A Pokedex of 301, 156 new, remaining old, meaning new Pokémon and old Pokémon were rare sometimes, common others, and not one overshadowed the other.
With XY and sadly S/M too now it seems, the Pokedex looms between 300-400 again, but where are the new Pokémon? Less than a third is objectively new experiences for people as trainers, and finding them, wil be arduous. I already know one of the Pokémon I want to try is /obnoxiously/ rare at 1% apparently only under certain conditions. Why?
The number of Pokémon I find isn't the issue. The prominence of the key main selling point of a new generation, is.

Okay so Mareanie is really obnoxious. Melemele Sea, Fishing, only appears as an SOS in 2 out of 3 Possible SOS combinations you can be given for each encounter, at a 1% chance of being the Pokémon called in. To reference, those same slots have a 78% chance of Gyarados.
When fishing in bubbling spots the SOS call chance goes to 20% though. That's....obnoxious.
