New Super Mario Bros. 2 costs £10 more to download from Nintendo's eShop - £40 - than it does to buy in a box from most shops (£29.99).
Fellow substantial 3DS games New Art Academy and Freakyforms Deluxe cost £29.99 and £24.99 from the eShop.

WTF? £10 more than the boxed version... Why is it that digital downloads always cost more than in stores. One things for sure I don't see this selling well digitally at all for that price.

I would rather get it from shop.to for £29.99

This is the regular RRP. They already said they were going to do this so I don't know why people are so shocked. Major retailers don't usually sell at £40 anyway, but this doesn't mean that the RRP isn't £40. Also if they priced it at £30, wouldn't retailers price it at £20?

I'm already sure people have decided on whenever or not to download this. Nintendo maximizing profits by selling DD at RRP is no surprise.

Can't wait to see what they expect to get from the supposed GC VC games on wii u now, should be humorous.

if they sold it at 30, retail shops would stop selling it. Nintendo can't be seen to undercut their own RRP

Awesome, this thread has less arguing in it than the news story.... so far, lol.

This is to be expected, Sony do it on the PSN, and offer occasional specials or markdowns. Nintendo will probably do the same judging by the sales they've already had on eShop.

As for GCN games I wouldn't be surprised to see them at $15-20 US on the store, technically it shouldn't be too much more, since they're now as old as the N64 games were when the Wii first came out. But you never know, they might be upscaled or something

No big deal. It's the same price as NA, which is the same price at retail here. I think it's just a reminder that the stores have control over the price in the UK, unlike NOA over here.

Yeah, I agree that it's to be expected. Nintendo is the one setting the RRP after all, it wouldn't make sense for them to say that their game is worth $40 (£,€, whatever), and then sell it for $30 (they'd be devaluing their own game).

The point is, that retailers are always going to sell for less than the RRP, so they can potentially get one up on the competition (again, if Nintendo tried doing so, they'd be devaluing their own game). Nintendo could have set the RRP at $30, but then retailers would be selling it for $20-$25, again causing the same issue that Nintendo is "overcharging" for the download.

Does anyone know what the e-shop price(or the RRP) in Euros is? I'm still undecided between retail and download.. I want to have it on my system permanently (never going to sell it anyway..) but if the RRP is 50 euros I will get it at retail(where it costs 35 euros...)
