Topic: Late Retail to Digital Games NOT COOL

Apparently Harvest Moon 3D A New Beginning is going digital today (Dec. 6). I bought this when it came out, at that point thought it would be better digitally, but that was not an available option. Now that it is Spending 40 MORE dollars to get what I originally wanted is not cool. They should offer games at an exceptionally lower price for those who double dip because the company is not on par digitally. NOT COOL

If you ask me, when you buy a game, you're accepting that you're happy with paying that price for the version of the game that you're buying and if there's a version of the game released later on that you would have preferred, then that's just your tough luck.

But unless there is way to tell if the game has been in another 3ds already (don't know if this is possible) then someone could just get the discount by borrowing the game from a freind.

I have to agree. One reason I wait awhile to get games is to see if they are going to have another version of the game i.e. a GOTY edition or a revised edition like Capcom does with SF games. Honestly how is it the companies fault that you rushed out and bought the game instead of waiting?

You've paid money to be able to play Harvest Moon 3D earlier. Unless your purchase was unsatisfactory because it was misrepresented by the seller (Like if, say, the game were defective), you've agreed that the product is worth the amount of money you paid for it at the time you've purchased it.

Does your physical copy of Harvest Moon 3D have a return policy? If you purchased it in the last 30 days you may still be able to get your money back.

They could use the club Nintendo codes for that.

Nobody made you buy the physical copy instead of waiting to see if a digital copy will come out, its your own fault for being so rash. All I can say is see if you can take it back or sell it.

Only if the previous owner has a CN account and has used the code. I have bought a few used games that still had the CN leaflet in it and used the code myself.

why does it matter? you bought the game, i'm assuming you were happy with your purchase, yes? you may as well complain that you bought Super Mario Bros. back in the day and thought it'd be better in handheld form and then get ticked that you can buy it from the eShop now, lol. like the zombie above me suggested, you could try selling it to get some of your money back from making the digital purchase.

All I'm saying is it would be nice for a company to let you know if their currently released products were going to be both digital AND retail, and if it happens to not release on the same day to let you know that is the case. Personally I am trying to make my 3DS digital so I don't have to lug game carts around when I want to trade out a game, but that is my problem.

The point I was trying to make was that if a game is labeled as "Retail ONLY" and the consumer assumes that to be the ONLY way to get that product, that is fine. It is another thing to have purchased said product under that impression and then find out later that, oh wait just kidding it's going to be digital now too. Slightly frustrating is all...

Sidenote: 1) Never said I was unhappy with the game itself, just the scenario sated twice above. 2) VC games are irrelevant because they are from a older system and don't play on modern systems unless through this means. Besides, their prices are significantly reduced and not the same price you would have paid for such as $40.00 for the NES SMB back in 1986.

It's not really the problem you're making it out to be. You ARE buying the game a second time, so it's completely fair for them to charge you the same price a second time. What's to stop you from buying the game a second time at a discounted rate and then give it to a friend?

You're right, they should've hold on releasing the retail version until the digital version was uploaded to the eshop by nintendo.

What ticks me off is I bought Bit.Trip Saga for $40 and now it says coming soon to the eShop for $15. I would have rather had this game on my 3DS permanently, and I already bought all the WiiWare Bit.Trips plus Complete to get the extras, so I just feel like they're milking me over and over again for more money.

I'm holding out on any Physical game from now on, but they should do something for people who bought DS/3DS games before the digital option was known, I'd say any game that came out AFTER NSMB2 you shouldn't get discounts but any before you should or maybe any game before April 27 2012 instead

@phys: ... gtfo, no way. i wonder if they've fixed the mistimed beats and desyncing? i really hate to be such a tool for Gaijin, but for a copy of Saga that doesn't desync i'd be willing to pay that extra $15. i'll let everyone else take the plunge on it though :/

I checked the eshop, turns out harvest moon is actually cheaper than usual on the mexican eshop... If only I had been wiser and never bought that abomination that is myst 3ds I could be playing harvest moon right now.

@Everyone Yes, it's totally your fault that Nintendo didn't have a retail-download ready EShop at the time of release of a game that was released before the EShop was well established. Context people.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but is lugging around 4 centimeter really difficult? Maybe it's just my wardrobe consisting of cargo pants, but I always have room on me to carry small trinkets, whether those are some change or game cartridges.

For some of us it's not the fact we carry a piece of plastic, but a piece of plastic that won't work in our current gen handheld in 15 years, DS games have less then 5 years I take before they won't work in the next handheld, and some of us buy more then they finish so having them all digital means you can take your time beating games without worrying

you could just keep the old handheld

or the current one for that matter

@kk Physical games break and deteriorate over time. You could make the argument that digital games can be deleted. However, they can be downloaded again, and again, and again, and again.
