But why hasn't Ninty released a new version of Mario Paint for DSiWare or 3DSWare? It seems like a perfect fit. I'd love to get my music maker on on the go!

I've wondered about that too. Duck hunt is another game that comes to mind as well. The only I can think of is that they were pretty basic programs when compared to the newer stuff. Even the virtual console should have been able to do it too. and the pointer option would have been great for the flyswatter game in Mario paint too.

Personally I would rather them leave classics in the past then try to remake them and ruin them. Look at PilotWings 3DS. That game is good. Some people say it is short and shallow and they are back on Wuhu Island, meanwhile in comparison to the the SNES version which had no scenery except the airstrip and had only 8 Levels with 2-4 vehicles per and 2 helicopter missions. So both can be short. Do we really want a new Mario Paint game. If they do release it then do it on the VC. If they try to make a new one then they would star comparing it to Flipnote, Photoshop, Paint Brush, and Art Academy.

Art Academy is probably your best bet for drawing.

Art Academy is amazing! They have First Semester up for FREE on Nintendo's Club site (well, for 150 coins.) Grab it!

Are you talking about the Mario Paint that was available on the Super NES? I don't know if there were any other version out after that one, but I had the SNES version and had a lot of fun on it. I could see it not catching on now when just about everyone has a computer with a paint program (back then very few did), and there are other painting programs for the DS like Art Academy. But Mario Paint was sure fun in it's time. It would have been good for the Wii when it first came out.

Actually, Wario Ware Inc. DIY is a LOT like Mario Paint, the tools are pretty much the same, you can make animations, music, random drawings using the same palettes and stamps, etc. and if you name your project "Mario Paint" the music from the game starts playing in the image editor.

I like to think Mario Paint somehow evolved into WW DIY.

@ grumble: what's up with the old threads? Eh it doesn't matter with this one though.

I'm fairly certain Nintendo is/will be relying on a combination of the Art Academy games and Colors! 3D as a substitution for a Mario Paint. That's just me, however: they take a cut of the sales from Colors, support a smaller (or would they be indie) developer, and give everyone the opportunity for some great art tools. While I'm sure for many nothing will ever compare to getting a Mario Paint on the 3DS, I'd rather have Nintendo focus on getting a bunch of high-quality software on its services than pleasing a few fans.

Exactly.

Sometimes I like to go back and look and see if I missed any threads here and there... The two I commented on last night got lots of new comments so I'm guessing others thought so, too. lol
