So I bought Haumi entirely on impulse, because it looked like my kind of game.
And holy heck was I correct! This game is FANTASTIC! I love a simple concept that is well executed. Already dying to sink my teeth into the level editor.
Hazumi is basically a puzzle game, but you only control it with left or right dpad buttons (or circle pad, whatever you like). Your goal in each level is to destroy all crystal blocks. You can only remove a block if it matches the color of the ball. To do this, interact with environment elements - push, pull, press, avoid, get teleported.
It's a mix of arkanoid with a platformer. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a 100 level game of the same. Hazumi get's harder and harder, blocks change. You must really learn to control the ball right as you go through the levels.
Hope my answer satisfies you.
Well, I do hope the color part takes us color blind people into account, like Peggle does. Because that could be make or break for me and many other people.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
@sinalefa
When it comes to colorblindness, it's really hard to say anything for me because I'm not color blind.
Use a promo-code and try how it works with you.
These are the main tiles from Hazumi, put into "colorblind" emulation mode:
Let the forum users judge readability. If it's not enough, we're really, really sorry. Anyway, that's a good lesson for us and thank you for pointing out this issue.
Thanks so much for sharing those download codes! Friend of mine is going to see if he can get one right now, though I imagine most of them have been taken already.
Since the developers are here, I was wondering: is there a way to share levels? Or is there going to be a way to share levels? I've already made some really cool stuff I would love to share!
UPDATE: "A06VVWKC1MF1922T" has been used by a friend of mine!
Thank you so much for the promo codes, EyeCancer_Games! I got the first one. The game is fantastic--I love playing pick-up-and-go puzzle games on the 3DS. Can't wait to start using the level editor too!
@Bazly
Unfortunately, there's no way to share levels. We thought about adding sharing with QR codes. It would be easy to implement on android/ios but here, you have to stick to Nintendo requirements, can't use open source QR code generators, there's a lot of bureaucracy on the Nintendo side... I do not have anything against Nintendo. I mean it. I love Nintendo, but sometimes things go weird. We just thought it would be a better idea to drop this and publish the game faster.
Anyway, you can always take a screenshot of your design and share it with people. That's not a perfect solution I know. Maybe, good idea would be starting some website/server, where you can upload those. It's a crippled solution I know. Anyway, thank you for pointing this out, maybe next game would be worth adding stuff like this.
Yeah, I've already started sharing screenshots via MiiVerse, so that will have to do for now! And that makes sense, sucks that things were kind of difficult. Are you releasing the game for Android/iOs as well? I would totally pick it up on Android! Especially if you CAN share levels there!
P.s.: Hope you enjoyed my EyeCancer level I made and shared on Miiverse! I posted it to the Hazumi community under the same username!
You mean this one? It's lovely... I mean, when I saw it, I was feeling very, very happy that somebody is acctually using my product. What's more the product is giving happines to the person using it and that meant a lot to me. Thanks!
Your designs are lovely. I saw your other design too:
Which is probably really hardcore to play Must test both of those levels...
When it comes to android/ios... we don't know what to do with those. Well, Hazumi is a premium game - you pay money, you get the game and have fun. This model works fine here, works fine on steam.... but mobile platforms are quite a different thing. Most games are freemium. If you publish a premium game there and you aren't well known developer it's more likely that you fail and be flooded in the see of other freemium products that users are more likely to download.
That's the most honest answer I can give you, when it comes to android/ios.
Haha yup that's the one! And that breakout one I am very pleased with, turned out more difficult than I was expecting.
And yes that definitely makes sense! I have a huge wishlist of games on Android that I don't know if I'll ever buy or not, just because I have no idea what the games are like and have so many other free ones.
Oooh, does that mean a Steam release could be possible? That would be awesome too!
@Bazly
Tp be honest with you, we're currently working on publishing the game on 3ds eShop in EU and JAPAN. Every other platform is currently just on the "maybe list". We'll see in future how it performed on the 3ds and think about other platforms after that. Maybe a better idea would be developing a new game instead of porting Hazumi.
Anyway, I love comments like this (from MiiVerse):

mwhahaha no one can pass my death level
People enjoy building levels to get others to feel the pain
My co-worker and I are having a lot of fun with this game. I do wish there was some way to share levels (maybe you could patch it in some how???) I am having problems trying to 3 star Level 8, anyone have any tips for that?
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
@DefHalan
When it comes to patching the game - it's all a matter of nintendo politics... Who knows, maybe it will be possible in future.
You can share your level screenshot through MiiVerse though.
The answer for level 8:
Be fast and attack the blocks from the angle in order to break more than 1 block at a time. It's possible to get 3 stars there.
We'll try to record a video with passing the level 8 with 3 stars for you.
Just wanted to throw in my two cents and say that this game is fantastic. I honestly feel 8/10 on NintendoLife was a harsh review! I didn't particularly find the game too difficult - I was able to collect all stars in around seven hours of play. (can post proof if you don't believe me!) Yes, it's a great challenge, but getting that three star rating never seems out of reach once you figure out little strategies for hitting more than one block at once.
The thing about this game is after a really tricky stage, there are generally a few easy ones, so it never feels too intense. The difficulty is varied, and it works.
edit My one complaint is that the wind mechanism felt a bit random. Could never properly control the ball in those levels. Three starring those stages felt a bit like luck.
