I'm just curious as to whether anybody else who got chosen for the Ambassador promotion is somewhat annoyed that the New 3DS is coming out so soon, and/or the fact that Nintendo have changed the price on their console in a matter of days.
I found myself sending the following to Nintendo about this
Dear Sirs,
I was one of the members of Club Nintendo who received an email regarding the "New 3DS Ambassador Edition". Naturally I jumped at the chance to buy it, even at the cost of £180 due to the belief that it would be unique and that the general public wouldn't be able to acquire this for the immediate future.
Then before my product had been delivered I saw that a Nintendo Direct had revealed the console to the entire general public with release less than a month from now. This fact alone is somewhat annoying.
More disappointing still is, that on the page on the Nintendo store where I could purchase the Ambassador bundle, the New 3DS was priced by Nintendo to be £155.99 with the smash bros cover plates to be valued at £7.67.
This naturally accounts for £163.66 meaning that the only unique exclusive part of the console is the Ambassador cover plates which have been valued at £16.33 (to account for the £179.99 price tag).
Since the cost of the New Nintendo 3DS was priced by Nintendo on a page on their Nintendo Store at £155.99, I was very shocked to then see their pre order for the New 3DS for the general public to be valued at £149.99 on the Nintendo store. As this is all on the official Nintendo store pricing I really would like an answer to why the Official pricing of the New 3DS was reduced by £6 over the course of the last few days.
Further to this when ordering the New 3DS since it was linked to my club Nintendo account I assumed it would be registered to my club Nintendo as a new console from the moment I placed my order. However this didn't appear to be the case causing me to miss out on the winter games promotion. When actually receiving the product there wasn't even a Club Nintendo Code in the box, leaving me in more disappointment following me missing out on this promotion.
Am I to understand that the perks of being a New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador is that I've paid £6 more for the console and paid £16.33 for a face plate. I assumed that as an early adopter I would be rewarded not taken advantage of.
I have always had the utmost respect for Nintendo and have always found myself having every upgrade or iteration of a console, usually I find myself very satisfied as a customer. Unfortunately this whole ordeal has left a very sour taste in my mouth that I would appreciate being explained to me.
wow nintendo not only managed to piss off the people that not had a chance to get the ambassador edition, but also the people that had the chance and bought it !
I've got one too, no regrets as its a big improvement, but its a bit galling that it was at a premium and doesn't register points, it would be nice if a surprise announcement of free ambassador software was launched when the normal ones get released, for now just enjoy....
So after receiving this unique reward from Nintendo, you sent them an e-mail complaining that they are bringing the New 3DS to the United States? We in Australia already have the New editions. But anyway, nobody gets the unique faceplates except Ambassadors. So basically you're complaining about six quid?
The major perk of having it one month before anyone else (excluding Australia/Japan) without software for it....... That's truly amazing.....
and it's not a limited edition with unique cover plates.... Its a normal white edition with unique cover plates.
And the issue of the extra £6 minor though it may seem is really annoying why have them post an official pricing on their page.. only to have it changed literally two days later.
The original 3DS ambassadors got loads of free games.
Nintendo knew they were going to make the announcement of the New 3DS on their Nintendo direct and they still chose to release a second batch of emails trying to get people to buy the ambassador version. It just seems less honest and trust worthy than Nintendo usually are.
System Transfer is currently consistently failing. I've tried several times.
I genuinely find the £6 more irksome than the original 3DS pricing fiasco. since that never had a RRP which lead to the confusion.
With this Nintendo have explicitly changed their valuation on their console after explaining the pricing of each component. it may not seem like an issue, but combined with markup on the exclusive faceplate I'm sure they're laughing.
The original 3DS ambassadors got loads of free games.
Because we payed significantly more than everyone else who bought one after the price cut. 6 quid isn't a significant difference. Also how would it be fair on Australia & Japan who (as far as I know) haven't had the opportunity to get an Ambassador N3DS from Nintendo?
People paid significantly more than everyone else due to the retailers, not from buying directly from Nintendo.
Well if you couldn't buy from Nintendo what choice did you have? The alternative is wait for a price drop, you didn't have to buy it straight away. Not that it matters, Nintendo cannot significantly undercut the retailers prices, otherwise I'd be buying by consoles at wholesale prices.
and the price drop occurred months after the product released with the original 3DS. Not one month before release date.
It still isn't officially released in the UK yet, you paid for that one month early access, along with an exclusive faceplate. It doesn't matter if there are no games released yet, you knew that there weren't any games released for it. You bought premium tickets before everyone else could, the game/performance/whatever starts at the same time for everyone.
Hate to break this to you, but you are the one who chose to purchase it. In no way does Nintendo or anyone for that matter owe you for the choices you made.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

I'd even bet that Nintendo has a line in their Terms and Conditions about reserving the right to change price listings at their discretion.
Did they advertise it as an exclusive console, when it was merely exclusive faceplates? If so, than someone like me who wouldn't have planned on buying one unless it was a rare model would be angry too. In the email, was it advertised as an exclusive console?
If not, you don't really have a leg to stand on. Personally, I think it would be pretty awesome to have a new console a month before everyone else. I'd enjoy it anyway.
I think it was sold at a fair price if not slightly cheaper actually...
Faceplates retail for £10.99, and it also came with a charge stand/cradle, which is probably £10-15?
I'm really happy with mine. It's a really high quality product, and I feel lucky to have had the chance to buy it a month early. been playing it loads, and enjoying the 3d which I used to leave off. It's seamless now.
Oh come on, this is ridiculous. I received an email to purchase an Ambassador Edition, but I waited... Why? Because I KNEW Nintendo would release the New 3DS soon. They've said for months now that it would be released this year, surely it must have occurred to you that maybe you should wait..? You've paid a premium for a few unique faceplates, that was your risk, and you took it. Sorry.
