@SpacedDuck Well, both of these games are pretty old and dated, so if there were any performance issues it was likely just due to the fact that the games released a long time ago and the development of the titles didn’t age too well, even in the redux. I completed Metro Redux 100% all achievements on the Xbox One and love the series. I hope this is true. It’s one of the best FPS’s from a story telling perspective and would be an awesome addition to the Switch library, IMO.

@SpacedDuck also maybe your PC wasn’t as high high end as you claim if it can’t run a redux of games from 2010/2013 🙄

I do not think you can base anything on badly optimized PC ports.

Console versions are the ones developers prioritize under game development. That's were most users are and were the big money is.

The PC versions are often a rushed afterthought, that isn't optimized very well. They are certainly not the development base for any Switch games.

Just look at the PC version of RDR2. The game runs ok on the Xbox One X, but that would not be the case on similar PC hardware.

I think Metro Redux is a new remaster or enhanced versions of these games, and it should be quite demanding for your hardware. I am not sure though?

But comparing Redux to the old versions from 2010 and 2013, and think it could run on similar hardware, is wrong, I guess?

I enjoy these on PC so can't wait to get them on the go. Still had a feeling only one game will be on the cartridge (if they even will be physical at all) but that's okay as I enjoy them both equally. I just hope they ran smoothly on Switch.

Not sure why start on the Switch when you will still need a PS4/PC to finish the trilogy with Metro: Exodus.

I bought this on Steam for less then £5 quite a few years back now and it was terrible in my opinion. I'd rather have a call of duty port or left 4 dead remasters instead of this.

I think Metro is the only AAA game from Ukraine/Russia. Just like Witcher (from Poland) they don't really click with me. The sensibility of Eastern Europe is very different from Western Europe/USA.

Would be great if they release them in full on cartridge.

The Xbox version is about 17GB for the complete Redux package, so they can easily squeeze the Switch version down to a 16GB cartridge.

I completed these at least 4-4 times on PC and Xbox, but day1 purchase on switch too!
Original metro was Xbox 360 game so switch should not have any problem running it.

@SpacedDuck high end PCs had trouble running Skyrim in 2011 when that was released.

I don't think games from 2010 are an issue in 2020.

Just get it on steam for £5 and have a better looking and performing game. 🤞your steam account doesn’t get hacked though like mine has

Comments like this on games make me laugh. Godfather is old yet people want it on Blu-ray/UHD instead of their old DVD copy. For me gaming is same. I like to have games of all ages available. Judging a game by its age is foolish especially if it’s only ten years old. Unfortunately gameplay hasn’t leapt massively forward in that time.

@SpacedDuck That's wrong. Even medium gaming PC's ran these games fine, and so did Xbox One 2013 model.
Metro Redux is last gen games and will run fine on Switch.

People always ignore that all these games can now be played anywhere without a TV too.

@Agramonte the answer is the same and old as time: what if these people don't have time to game on their PC? And laptops are still a chore to lug around for gaming alone, even if I've begrudgingly taken to doing this myself at times since last summer.

Metro Redux itself I've had on PS4 (PS Store has it bundled with Saint's Row IV) and then grabbed a Steam version in the GPD days. I even have it installed on the aforesaid laptop now, but it's ready to leave the drive the moment Switch version has an official announcement. Switch is Switch.

Price-wise, third party Switch titles are by no means foreign to eventual discounts either. And even by default, if a lower price gets you a version that's less convenient to even allocate time and place for, then how much do you really save?

@SpacedDuck this game runs no problem on my PS4. I am sure it will run just fine on my Switch. Metro on the go, cannot get any better than that.

@dres That's not because of poor optimization. On PC gamers expect a bigger quality of the game (better visuals, higher refresh rates and resolution) this means that an PC game is targeted to the market that wants to make the most out of it. Requiring more powerful hardware. PC games will then ALWAYS look better than console games.

A poorly optimized PC game runs the same on console and PC, and those games always get terrible reviews.

This also means that technically any game can run on any system. So porting a game to the Switch should always be possible, you just need to adjust the targeted framerate and resolution to fit the system. So no 4K60, but 1080p30 / 900p60 / 720p60 / 1080p60 etc.

if it sells well with any luck will see the superior first two games

@SpacedDuck Depends if the game relies on the graphics.. if it could still be the same game with reduced fidelity, then that’s a quick fix to make it run better, but generally speaking several studios have been doing a lot of work for the Switch to make their games run well, where-as when they came out on Ps4 or PC, they could rely on brute force and not have to be as pedantic with optimisation... and that sometimes showed.

As something that comes to mind, Witcher ran super stuttery / bad frame rate when I got it on PS4 originally. Runs fine on my Switch regardless of the graphics reduction. Just one example that contradicts that thought of yours. There are probably others that are around. Alien Isolation being decent on Ps4 but great on Switch (mainly due to anti-aliasing), but still. It’s about how much effort / money they want to put in to optimisation.

@sanderev Haven’t read who you were originally replying to, but just based on what you wrote in your comment I’ll say this. Given no changes, frame rate and res changes will allow games to run... but in many cases optimisation makes huge differences and it’s just whether the studio want to bother spending the time and money.. On PC, the optimisation phase is relatively minor because it doesn’t need to be catering to low power systems and as a result are not ‘as’ optimised as they could be had the developer wanted to get it to run on say... the Switch. Many devs do nothing in the port stage it would seem, but there are also those who do make big changes during the porting.

I have Redux on PS4, but like so many games I've bought on PS4, I played it once and then never played it again. I'm just less inclined to sit down infront of my TV to play games (exception being Monster Hunter World/Iceborne).

To be fair, I enjoyed 2033 when I played it, and not playing it since is more about my game playing preferences, than about the game itself.

If it comes out physical for Switch and isn't broken/ported well, I'll probably get it so it can sit next to Doom in my collection.

I consider Switch this generation's Game Boy, and I never complained about Rogue Spear, Max Payne, Alone in the Dark, Perfect Dark, Cannon Fodder,... being "lesser versions" when they arrived beyond perfectly playable, as technical wonders, on a Game Boy. So yeah, bring it. Gyro aim and steady performance with decent loading times and visuals, and I may get it again, and finish it this time (which is more likely when a game is portable, for me personally)

@nhSnork hybrid is that you play some both at home and GO. And nobody I know plays 1 game 24-7. I can put a few into Jedi Fallen Order when on downtime at home (or at a hotel for work on my laptop) and play LM3 on my Switch when that is not “convenient”.

$1 also gets you access to knowing how it all finally turns out for Artyom, Anna and the rest Of the cast that makes METRO so amazing. Somethings you can’t do at any price on Switch. So you still need to deal with the time issue above anyway.

@FTL From XBOX / PS4/5 to PC isn't really porting though. Since these console use relatively normal PC architectures. The biggest difference between PC and consoles (except Switch) is the difference in control, a PC game is basically keyboard and mouse first and controller second (or non existent at all). PS games needs to be adapted to run on Windows (XBOX ONE already runs an embedded version of Windows including FULL DirectX support)

To port an XBOX game to PC you basically ONLY need to recompile it to run on "normal" Windows. This is why most XBOX ONE games are also available on PC. For PS it's a bit more difficult since PS is based off of OpenGL, which Windows doesn't include (anymore). So to make an PS game run on Windows you'll need to either recompile it using a DirectX supporting framework (Unity3D, Unreal Engine, Source engine, etc) and this includes a lot more testing.

To port a Switch game is:
1. Port from ARM to i386-x64
2. Use an DirectX framework (see the playstation example)
3. Testing.

Also for the XBOX ONE and PS4 only exist two different configurations for a PC there thousands of different configurations of RAM, CPU and GPU to make. True hardware level optimization is quite impossible, this is why you have frameworks like DirectX to handle communication between game and hardware. Also on a PC Windows is always taking up memory and CPU time even in game. XBOX ONE, PS5, Switch, etc. all have hypervisors that can disable the OS if a game needs the raw power. Or they use dedicated memory just for the OS.

Nice, all but confirmed now. Never played these games before, was always bummed that Last Light got canned on Wii U. Cool that it looks like it'll finally come to a Nintendo platform after all.

So Metro Redux, Bioshock Collection, and Saints Row IV have all recently been rated for Switch (some of them rated multiple times). A Direct is definitely imminent.

Assuming these ratings are legit (they most likely are), then it's good to see Metro and Bioshock make their debut on Nintendo hardware. Definitely considering picking up Bioshock.

1. Just because a game runs poorly on PC doesn't mean it won't run better on another platform.

2. Metro Redux runs flawlessly on my PC, probably because I updated my PC over the years with new hardware. You have to install updated hardware to keep up with PC gaming. If your PC cannot play a game as old as Metro Redux, you have outdated tech in your PC.

@MortalKombat2007 Yeah I would say this could all be up to how the game is handled and whoever they pass off the duty of porting the game to Switch to. It could be a situation like we had with Alien Isolation for all we know where the game ended up being better on the Switch than it was on the older platforms.

I think one thing we need to keep in mind with this game is how it is a last generation (PS3/360) title. These remasters were apparently quite minor and didn't really do a whole lot to push the games graphically. They managed to fit the old games on a single 360 disc back in the day so I am sure the Switch editions won't wind up as big as the PC editions.

Seeing as I missed it when it originally came out, and am a huge fan of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which shares some similarities, I am pleasantly surprised to hear of yet another cool port.
