Regarding the star letter and concerns about switch 2’s future.
I’m old enough to remember when the N64 launched, and was up against the original PlayStation. In fact, I was working at an EB games store at the time, in the UK.
The N64 was carried to a massive degree by Nintendo’s first party games. For a long while, it was carried by a single game, SM64, which at the time, was a revolutionary game.
Despite being considerably more powerful than the PlayStation, its sales and its game library was dwarfed by the PlayStation. Nintendo’s decision to go with cartridges really hurt sales, since it made the console much more expensive to release games on (digital games weren’t a thing back then. Which was a better state of affairs, imo- games had to work when they were released).
Commercially, the N64 didn’t make a dent in the playstation’s success, despite its superior specs. And to add insult to injury, the original PlayStation was developed as a 32-bit add on for the SNES! Nintendo got cold feet, Sony reworked it into their own console, and the rest is history.
Nintendo’s position now is far stronger than it was then. They’re not having to essentially carry the weight of the console with minimal 3rd party support. I’m not worried. At all.
As for the negativity of the interweb, I ignore it. Only subscribe to a quality outlet, such as NL. Ya don’t need the negativity of the dregs of humanity being delivered into the palm of your hands 10 times an hour, lol!
