@wariofart "Not sure, but Nintendo might be using this as a last ditch effort to increase their NSO subscription numbers before their fiscal year earnings report in a month (Apr 28th). It's been hinted subs haven't been what Nintendo was expecting, so what better way than to give it away for free?"
...that makes a whole lot of sense actually. The old Apple U2 trick... or even Switch itself which many suspected was only released at the time it was released to save the FY from the Wii U's failure. It's whatever, I'm an end user so it's not like there's any direct negative effect to playing into a scheme like this. I'll take some free stuff.
I'm gonna be honest... the art style is terrible. If we didn't excuse the graphics of the FFV/FFVI mobile ports, I can understand why we wouldn't excuse this. Everyone's got all these ridiculous looking additional meat portions all over the place making them look... inappropriately chunky considering what they do. It looks more like a reimagining of the Banner Saga than it does Streets of Rage.
Still gonna stay optimistic about it though... because it's really all about the gameplay and music. If they can nail the gameplay and do Koshiro and Kawashima justice in the music dept (which I believe they can), I'll deal with the art style.
Nice, I've been waiting for this. Hope to see even more apps make their way to Switch. Just having YouTube and Hulu on a truly portable game console has been game changing.
Are my settings wrong or do Nintendo-only people have low standards? Cause I came off playing this on Xbox One and the frame rate is unforgivably bad... oh and the constant dips in resolution are painful.
Have not subbed yet, and honestly I don’t see that changing soon. A million people have already said this, but maybe it takes a million and one before Nintendo realizes that this smartphone voice chat app creates problems that were already solved... and yeah, NESflix is a downright pitiful replacement for VC.
If they were using their noggins, they would have utilized the unified purchase history we got with the NNID Link to allow Switch access to previous retro purchases. I bet there’s a lot of people still burned by having to rebuy VC titles that would have completely forgiven Nintendo if they went that route instead of giving us a slow trickle of NES games.
I sure as hell would have loved to just have access to Earthbound on my Switch because I purchased it on 3DS, and before someone loads up the doubt machine, consider that people buying PS1 classics on PS3 or PSP were easily able to play those same classics on PS Vita without hassles.
Nintendo Switch actually would benefit greatly by imping the party system of the Vita. You can connect a BT headset regardless of whether you’re on the handheld or TV, and party chat/messaging is handled NATIVELY on the device.
@MarioBrax yeah, but it's limited to your friends only. So no being able to hop in with a random user like you can in classic collections featured on PlayStation or Xbox.
Really wish we could just download the NES games we want... or that they just gave us the VC we had on Wii U with the ability to download our previous purchases instead of feeding us this netflix style crap.
Why did they pick the most appealing hardware in Nintendo history to stop giving us a traditional style VC model after so many years of people loving that model of being given classics? Why do we have to use a goddamn phone app for party/voice chat? Why don't we have something as basic as folders over a year later? Why is Jadakiss as hard as it gets?
Wonder what this means for people like me who constantly Switch regions to get the best price (etc getting Shovel Knight 60% off on the Mexican eShop or getting The Messenger for $2 from the same)?
Does that mean I won’t be able to do that anymore or switch my region to Japan to take advantage of Japan only demos since Switch region temporarily unlinks my account?
I'm like in tears over how much incredible content is available for Switch owners willing to look deeper than just Zelda, Splatoon and Mario.
Nintendo's back to having the most appealing system, and I'm happy to be a Nintendo fan again. I will rock this every bit as hard as I did Tactics Ogre: TKOL and FFTA back in the day.
Now what we need is for Sega to pony up with that Shining Force collection. Put SF1, 2, all books of 3 translated and the "gaiden" games in one release on the Switch... and I will SELL my PS4.
@Zebetite admittedly, me rebuying doesn't happen often, and doesn't happen at all without something to merit the purchase. About the only other time I can recall rebuying essentially the same game was Seiken Densetsu (Final Fantasy Adventure) of which I re-bought when it was remade as Sword of Mana on GBA, then Adventure of Mana on PSVita... and Street Fighter 2, though it's kind of cheap to mention that one being that it's the deadest horse to have ever been beaten... (I suppose I'll be buying that again on Switch too, no way I'll pay MSRP though).
At the time, getting it on the Wii sounded like a good idea (I didn't get along with it on the Wii). The full remake on 3DS seemed like an interesting revision until I found out how poorly executed it was and how big of a problem depth perception and simply calculating movements were, but I did get my playtime worth out of it. The Steam version at the time seemed like the "perfect" version, but then the sprite-based Cave Story on 3DS went on sale and charmed me with faithfulness and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
I'm buying this because I believe the physical copy and the Switch's versatility will add value to the experience.
I've horribly misread this as "Cave Story launches for the 20th time in June". No h8 though, it will be the fourth time I buy it, and for that physical copy I'll have no regrets.

Re: "Nintendo Switch Has Games" - And Now It Has An Expensive Calculator, Too
So what... one month... two months(?) until:
a) They realize that design is soooo 2007
b) It goes free.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Version 1.2.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
So... no buddy feature migrated over to the main region? ...and no gyms added to the Isle of Armor.
Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd April (North America)
DO NOT sleep on Grimvalor. I've been playing it on my Moto Z4+Gamepad Mod and holy hell it's amazing.

In b4 the mouth-frothing anti-digital people get here to extrapolate their hearts out.
