Remember InkyPen? The comic book subscription service that was revealed to be coming to Switch earlier this year? Well, it's very much still on the way, and you'll be able to check it out for yourself as early as next week.
The service will give users access to its full library of comics and novels for €7.99 / $7.99 a month, essentially acting like the Netflix of the comic book world. Best-selling comics publishers like IDW, Valiant, Humanoids, Dynamite, and Titan Comics have already been confirmed, and the team has also snagged partnerships with Dark Horse, Archie Comics, and Papercutz to bring even more content to the platform.
Thousands of comics are set to be available, including series such as Judge Dredd, Transformers, Robotech, X-O Manowar, Bloodshot, Metabarons, Pathfinder, and Battlestar Galactica. It'll also include comic adaptations of popular video game franchises such as Dark Souls, Dishonored, Tekken, and Assassin’s Creed.
InkyPen will launch on Nintendo Switch on Monday 17th December with all comics available in English (other languages are set to be added in 2019).

Comixology support would be so much better.
Can't hurt to try it out especially at that price. If it's not up to par I'll cancel the subscription. Easy as that. Wasn't there another comic subscription service coming as well?
@Ralizah I have Comixology on my phone did they say they're going to add support for the Switch?
Nice, but I'm not holding my breath for the odds of it working. If Nintendo Anime Channel in my experience (and Hulu on Switch in some others') was any indication, these apps do give a damn about regions... and IP address discrepancy.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN Nope. Seems like a missed opportunity, as I already have a pretty decent library of digital comics on that service.
I have ComiXology and COVERS on my work tablet. Format makes more sense for comics.
Physical comics are best. Of all things I enjoy digitally, comics have to be physical for me.
@VR32X
Agree. And older the better. Rough old school paper. Not that new glossy
Finally!
I just hope other services like DC Universe will follow suit, although I'm aware that's probably wishful thinking for now.
@VR32X I strongly disagree. Reading comics digitally is way more comfortable. Scrolling through a whole comic without having to ever turn a page is a blessing.
Besides, printing on actual paper is unecological.
I used to read comics on paper as a child and I still have some printed issues, but generally that's just an outdated way to read comics.
@nhSnork I remember the Anime Channel only had old Pokemon
Do you want to touch my beloved InkyPen?
@Ralizah Comixology isn't subscription based though. I've bought a few comics on there and they're all sold individually. I like the subscription service model. I'll prob read a lot more.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN Comixology actually does have a subscription service, called Comixology Unlimited.
@Ralizah good to know. Thanks for the heads up. They should bring it to Switch, damn.
Most of my purchased digital comics are through Comixology. Some others I bought DRM-less from Humble Bundle.
I'm not to subscribe to a service to read comics on my TV, or on a small screen 720p device. If there's one thing I like ultra high-res screens for, it's for reading comics. I only read them in page view (so it still feels like a proper printed page). And in that format, 720p just doesn't work. And the Switch screen is too small for that too.
Still not happy about the subscription thing. We already pay for Nintendo Online - you'd think those of us already shelling out money for that wouldn't have to pay more per month for... comics...
I was ready to talk crap, but that’s a pretty impressive list of publishers.
I mostly read Image, Marvel, and DC (and a lot of manga), so this isn’t for me. Seems cool though.
@shani Thats a shame. But to each their own. I love the smell of fresh ink, hot off the press, and the excitement of turning pages on beautiful artwork. Most comics and publications use recycled paper. Though I could be wrong.
Maybe at a convention you can get your favorite artist to sign your Switch!
That’s pretty neat. I didn’t know services like this existed.
Nice, I've been waiting for this. Hope to see even more apps make their way to Switch. Just having YouTube and Hulu on a truly portable game console has been game changing.
@Realnoize
They could do it TATE mode maybe. It would only work for one page but I would still prefer it to horizontal with the pages shrunk up
@ThatNyteDaez : This should be independent from the NSO subscription, just like now free to play games are still playable without NSO.
Considering that it's £8 in the UK, I imagine that this will be at least AU$12 here, which is simply far too expensive for what it is. Services like Netflix offer a hell of a lot more value for money at only AU$10.
I would be more inclined to check this out if I had the option to purchase the comics.
This sounds good. I'm getting rid of a load of my old physical spiderman comics via eBay, most from 2004 some from 1970's. Its a shame I can't list them here as I'm selling a box of 62 comics for £49.
There was supposed to be another app called Izneo. Any word on that? It was announced I think back in August or September, wasn't it?
