I'm just surprised that no one had commented yet about the fact that this idea really began with the Nintendo World Championship in the early 90s. It had Super Mario Bros. as well as Tetris. The technology for this simply wasn't quite there yet, but I'd be shocked if the concept was not explored at least a little bit during the development of the competition.
