Well, I hope that a lot of people bought those DK Bongos and that they are interested in this game.
I for one didn't buy the bongos and therefore probably won't buy this game as a result, feeling like I won't be able to take full advantage of it now because its a 1500 point game that requires a accessory I don't really want to own.
Now if someone starts releasing Wii Zapper games...
Yeah, I meant a full blown Light Gun game with the Wii Zapper/Perfect Shot in mind. Like how the upcoming Wii (we) Ski by Namco Bandai is using the Balance Board for Skiing (game looks mad fun btw).
Man, I just put this back in my 64 again (own the cart) and I can't believe how much fun it is. Even I passed it up halfway through the first time I played it feeling like it wasn't 'fun' enough for a Kirby game, but now that I'm older and more appreciative of what a fun game can be, this game is just downright 2 1/2D greatness. With the kind of games that come out now adyas every 2 YEARS, I'd kill for a game like this to come out once in a while just to beef up the DS and Wiis library.
No, this isn't going to win any awards for being the next Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl or even Kirby's Adventure/Super Star, but its definitely worth 4 stars by your rating system.
For Japan, this is really good as they can schedule a lot of recordings with DVR and such. And, frankly, there's a lot of people doing digital recording of Anime and Dramas which are being broadcasted online which now can be tracked by this Wii service. Although they might just opt to use their online sources they've been using instead.
However yeah, I donno how well it would go in America. I actually think this service would do ok in America, kind of half and half with the 'older' (18-40 crowd) and the teenagers who are too lazy to turn on the TV and see when the Simpsons/South Park/Family Guy is on. But yeah, it would take a lot more money than we think to track all that programming.
Just because a game for VC doesn't get released before Brawl does doesn't mean it won't appear on its 'Classics' collection in Brawl. A good indicator is the original Metroid, which Japan just got last week. I'd say that is a good candidate for the classics section of Brawl. And as someone is mentioning here, there's no representative for the Mother series in Americas VC, but two Mother reps in Brawl. Including one who appears in a game we will never see a game that will come to America.
This game does look really fun but, I've just been burned by Factor 5 games in the past... And I'm still licking my wounds from Rebel Strike (one of the worst games I've ever played) and remember playing 'Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures'. I try not to say that a company won't be able to make a good game after hurting me so many other times, especially since they did make Rogue Squadron II, but they just have socked me in the gut way too many times...
Oh yeah, and one game, omg how could you Nintendo. Never saw that coming, how horrible…
Hey, go for it. That's what I did for the NES and it was a great decision. And in some instances can be cheaper and will get you many of the games you want faster. However, once you get to certain games, you won't get them cheaper than VC. And some of the best N64 games, while easy to find even in used gaming stores, LAN Centers or on EBay, will run you 40-60 US dollars used (Harvest Moon 64, Paper Mario). While the others may be 5-10 bucks each...or they might be more if you have to buy them all individually.
So its a real tricky thing. VC won't have all the games you want even over years, but trying to buy them all in hard copy will run you up quite a bill and be hard too.
They are focusing on their own games. Its called Twilight Princess, WarioWare, Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, WiiFit.
Did you mean that Nintendo itself should start focusing on getting more third party support? They tried doing nothing but that with the GC, to the point that they even hired out half their in house franchises (F-Zero, 1080, Mario, Zelda, Sports, you name it) to 3rd party companies to get '3rd party companies' on the GC. Now they're doing the same with VC and WiiWare, but being a lot smarter about it, and keeping enough control so that they can keep their own properties and quality assurance but also allow these third parties to do their own thing.
If you're gonna blame anyone for the Wii slumping on having actual physical software, blame American and European game developers. They still want to side with the 360 overall, giving the Wii, albeit upgraded ports at times, but mostly just their gimmicky random ideas, mini-games and things like 'World Championship Darts'.
I doubt it'll be remade to be easier and become a case of just watching the castle defend itself. In the original game, as some higher levels come around, it would quickly get to a point that you couldn't keep up with all the craziness that was going on. Plus, they've said the key phrase 'Repel even faster and more massive waves of invaders', making me think the gameplay is faster paced than the original game.
Plus they're adding on up to 4 player support and I hate to say it, but sometimes when games do that, they also up the difficulty forcing you to play with multiple people to be able to get to later levels. Especially with the way they describe it being 'jump-in coop play' meaning the other players can jump in to help you when you are starting to lose. Maybe even at like Level 3 or 5 or 8.
It may be a simple case of the original Flash game is going to be 'the original' one player version and this one is geared to be a co-op version, but also can be played single player. But only to a certain extent... Certainly fits with what Nintendo wants the Wii to be doing…
And I thought I already had an adequate version of this with Bite Night from The Simpsons Game.... Now its a full blown game with multiple characters and modes instead of just a mini-game with Homer vs a Chocolate Bunny.
Well um...Not that I'm trying to say I don't like all the new systems coming, because I do. I want MORE new systems. Keep 'em coming!
Ahem...but I think that instead of the people focusing on getting all of these new systems connected to the Wii, I think they should ALSO be focusing on perhaps...either getting more games out each week or maybe some kind of voting system out there that allows us, the people buying these games, to vote for one game every 2-4 weeks we would like to see put up on the VC per Region.
The spreading out of all these new systems has come at the exact same time as all of the regions slowing down. We have had what, 3 new systems added to the North American VC in 4-5 months? And in that time we’ve seen games slow from 3 releases a week to 2-1 a week. Suddenly we’ve gone from 4 systems to 6 or 7 and the games each week have gone down… How are we going to ever expect to get any amount of games out if the systems keep piling up but the games keep slowing down?
I already thought this was a good idea before and that it would sell well with a few minor tweaks. Direct ports of arcade and flash games sell on XBL that are even more unknown that this game. With the popularity of Wii and the fact that they’re jumping on from day 1, they're just exceeding expectations and doing everything right. The great price and upgrade to the gameplay and graphics are just extra ploys that will draw in those who haven’t ever tried the game or have played it but didn’t want to pay to own it. I'll be there to spend my 5 bucks on the first day.
Lol, I bet the Japanese are just Jumping up and down for Metroid! But really, why did it take this long for them to get it? And do they even have Super Metroid? Oh well, I guess they needed to just slip it in there since its probably on the 'Classics' section of Brawl.
And to Link o Fett. We're not gonna get Smash Bros 64 this week because its bad marketting to release a previous version of Smash Bros 6 days before Brawl comes out. There might be people who opt to buy (or just play after buying) the VC Smash 64 over Brawl, which is 10 dollars vs Brawl being 50 and may be harder to find after the first day.
Don't really think I'd be that interested in getting it with the current (or projected selection) of VC games out there.
However, if this thing can also support play with GC and Wii games, namely fighters and some random games like Zelda which I've always wanted to try playing zelda games with a controller like this, I'm suddenly interested in it. And then it'll also be worth getting for the few fighters/shooters/arcade ports I have downloaded from VC.
I'll be getting it. Pokemon Battle Coliseum turned out to be ne of the biggest let downs since...well I can't even remember when. And so I need something to do having all these Pokemon. I guess this will be a small chip thrown back by Nintendo.
"More support for WiiWare, then - but the game will have to be seriously improved if XGen expect gamers to pay 500 Wii points for something that is available on the internet for free."
Actually, its the fact that it'll be a updated version of a game people played countless times to just pass the time while WoW or RO or their favorite CS server was down that will make them go 'oh, I want to try that.' Then they'll pay the 5 bucks to get it and play it, even if only for 10 minutes just like before.
And just like with anything on this site, you question quantity over quality? Look at the majority of the games on Virtual Console. And still some of the 'less than stellar' titles sell. Why? Because not every game can be Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, Harvest Moon, Gradius, etc.
If there was additional features available right off the bat from Nintendo, that would still be covered by the fact that there's a couple months of crating the finished product, burning all the disks, marketing and shipping those to stores. In that time frame, they aren't crating any additional new characters, stages, etc. However, if they WERE doing that and decided to release those new Characters, stages etc to the customer through WiiWare, THEN its totally justifiable.
Japan is going through a massive shortage of the game due to the developers working all the way to the last minute to jam every kilobyte they could onto the disk before the deadline, causing only 800,000 people to get their copy in the first week (when this game could have possibly broken records on opening day). America might see the same thing happen. And you people are contemplating that Sakurai and co might have held back pieces of the game for profit? Come on... If anything, a small WiiWare release might just be a frank $5 'we're sorry' to the world. And its more than we even deserve when looking at how much we're already going to get for our original 50 bucks.
This rumor sounds incredibly fake as Sakurai already discredited the claim he wasn't going to allow any downloadable or extra content to Brawl after the game was released. Also because there’s no option in the Japanese game for it (although I realize said WiiWare could fix such a thing just like various Pokemon games hook up to each other without prior options).
...However, since this was the thing I hoped Brawl would have the most after the Music, character selection it has now and the amazing 1 player action/adventure/platformer I can play for hundreds of hours....this news would be the icing on the cake that stops my heart.
And if you don't admit to saying you would pay even 5-10 dollars for a new character/stage that Nintendo created for you every 2-3 months, you are lying so bad and you know it!
I think the release of the Virtual Console list can be summarized quite simply. The production and later handling of Virtual Console is being handled by a group of people in Nintendo who oversee which games go where. They probably also consist partially of some of the original people who developed the Virtual Console Channel (if not other channels or many other aspects of Nintendo production not even related to just Wii Software Design).

And multiple times, we've seen things happen on the VC that lead us to believe that quick or not so quick and long time planned decisions have been made (possibly by heads of Nintendo) to the Virtual Consoles normal routine and release schedule to influence other aspects of the Wii or game sales.
Combine this with all the data they have been getting over the course of the very short time span this service has been in effect and the fact that they've been trying to change the service to meet the trends of the fans and the casual market....you have a complex system that isn't going to make any real sense and is far from being organized.
I don't think there really IS any logical reason to how or why certain decisions have been made so far on the VC. What should be done is they should have a Voting section on the VC to allow people to vote for which games they'd like to see appear on the VC in upcoming months.
...and I actually bought this game for a dollar fifty, hard copy. Is it as horrible as everyone is saying? Yes and no. But hey, I have an actual Zapper. And even if Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman, Hogan's Alley, Gotcha, Gumshoe, To The Moon, Freedom Force or the rest came out for Virtual Console, the Wii Zapper, PS or the rest could never replace the original Zapper!
This is still one of my favorite N64 games and still the best Snowboarding game I have come across. The sequels for this series fell short. Even though the sequels for this game were bigger and had more going on, they just didn't have the perfect blend of difficulty, simulation of the sport and yet making the game fun all at the same time.
But yes, the main game is short. Everything is about replaying it over and over again. This game is for those who don't like to just run through a long 20 hours single player game and move on to the next, but replay some really well made stages over and over again and improve their skills.
Like Mario Kart, but with skill, speed and finesse instead of items, power skidding and dodging the levels pitfalls, lol.
You forgot to mention one thing. The advantage to buying original stuff over 100% Virtual Console products is they will never put everything on Virtual Console.
Square Enix is sure never to put games like the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest/Warrior series on the VC, nor Chrono Trigger or probably Super Mario RPG. Then you have all the good NES Zapper games which have been flip flopping between maybe or not, but even if they get on the VC, you will never have the satisfaction of holding the real NES Zapper in your hands. How long is it going to take Konami to get Castlevania III over here, if ever? Where's Mischief Makers? I don't think Seiken Densetsu 3 will ever come. And we might have gotten Harvest Moon in Europe, but what about Harvest Moon 64. Will it take a year...or maybe 3 or never?
We can't just discount buying the actual real thing and relying on VC now that its here. I love VC and I've bought 24 games from it. But I've also gone and bought 35 NES, 1 N64 and a host of GB, GBC and GBA games since the Wii has come out. Hard copy real ones. And I can tell you, that's from my view that almost all of those won't be coming to VC.
"But don't all the N64 games on VC use the Gamecube controller, which is best rendition of a Nintendo analog controller so far?"
Well, I'd say yes and no." The GC controller is nice and technically is superior to the N64 Analog. But the 64 Analog lasts longer and is less sensitive. While that's not important for games like Zelda, Mario or even Smash Bros so much, it makes a big difference for a fighter. I bought CvsSNK2 for the GC, and if you ever tried to pull off complex moves with the GCs sensitive Analog (say Hibiki or Geese or Athena) many times it would just register a half circle as you pressing multiple directions somewhere in the process.
The N64 Analog, like these Arcade sticks, was rubbing across solid plastic and always pointing to one direction. Not rolling on whatever the GCs Analog thumb thing is and sliding into different positions. Great for many other games, but not for fighters. And the GCs D-Pad was even worse...
