Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3

@GameOtaku In relation to guests charging for autographs it depends on the agreement with the convention. I did some convention work in Europe so have a little insight. Basically guests will charge a fee to the convention depending on how much work they need to do. Many come with a suggested list of talks they can give. Anyway the convention can choose to pay a full fee for the weekend and the guest will sign anything for free. Many do prefer this if possible so then they can just hang with their fans and not look for money. However many conventions can't afford to pay the guest the fee they need and instead pay a discounted amount of say about $2,000 for a small convention plus accommodation and travel. The guest then makes the rest of their fee through signings. I've found people reluctant to pay for signatures unless a big fan so they don't make huge money from it unless very famous, it really can be hit and miss with some guests making about $100 or another $2,000.

@RiasGremory Dude I'm thinking maybe she should get about 10k, even 8k which would be nothing in terms of the overall budget and as a sign of respect for the good job she did on the previous games. Voice acting is often recorded during development so they can match the script to the action/expressions in the animated scene's properly.
Yeah US has a real problem with fair wages for a lot of people but at least she's standing up for herself. If you live in a city odds are you need about 3-4k a month unless living in a dive or miles away from the city. Average wages tend to be higher in large cities.
There's a lot more to a career in Voice acting than just turning up to a recording booth. There's a lot of rehearsal, research, reading, auditions, and chasing up jobs as well as the recordings. She doesn't just work 4hrs a week and then sit and relax for the rest. If you are in a dead-end poorly paid job well that just sucks but there are better jobs you can get if you upskill and I really wouldn't wish a poorly paid job on anybody. I did factory work years ago and it was soul crushing physically and mentally.

@duffmmann see my other response but 16hrs of voice work is tough. You have to keep the performance fresh and consistent and know all your lines and how to perform. Can't just rock up to an expensive studio booked months in advance and just start reading from the script for the first time. Anybody can do that. lol A lot of people's logic would mean stage actors or musicians should only get $100 for 1 hr of stage time.

@Arawn93 No worries for thinking like that. Voice acting like any artistry. Would you pay a pro stage actor or musician $100 for an hours work on stage while management walks off with 100k+? No? Cause far more time is spend in rehearsal time and honing their craft. Studio time is precious and expensive so they only have those sessions to nail their performance and have to be ready to go not just reading the material there and then. There's no actor or musician that will on a stage or a set from 9am-5pm so you can't charge them the same way a regular job works.

@bluemage1989 A log of people seem to think Voice acting is easy work that they do in a few days? Depends on the work but something that has a lot of voice work like Bayonetta would take weeks of work at least not to mention the skills to do it well. Voice actors also go to conventions and do a lot to help with promotion. When your voice contributes in a big way to the success of a multi million dollar game it's not unreasonable to give a better wage.
