Trust Nintendo to catch you off guard on a Monday morning with a Switch 2 ad so wholesome it brings an actual tear to your eye.
The latest from Nintendo UK is exactly that. It has it all — a break-up, university isolation, finding comfort in family — crammed into a swift one minute, and it shows us just how smug we'll all feel when we finally get to experience Ocarina of Time all over again.
Aside from Link's latest, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream also takes the limelight in this one (not technically a Switch 2 game, but we get the point), showcasing how wonderfully the console can bring people together both in-person and away.

Sure, Nintendo has been adept at pulling on our heartstrings with ads like this for a while now, but we're never going to scroll past one — particularly not when it manages to get a little bit of dust in our eye...

Yep, that was really heartwarming
Are they finally going to release Mum's Lasagna for Switch 2?
What a lovely ad between its narration and how it showscases the various features of Switch 2 (the inclusion of Tomodachi Life is smart between backward compatibility and also being able to use GameShare even with Switch games) - of course it further made me look forward to the Ocarina remake, too!
Mums Lasagna the best thing in the advert, just what’s needed when in Hyrule Field adventuring.
UK ads are the best. They always nail the story and the heart.
I’ve literally played switch 2 on that exact train when visiting partners family, wholesome
@Genichiro and was you cooked mum's lasagne?
Aww, that was really sweet. The music is effective, and they also get some good actors for these.
That being said, how come HE gets to play Ocarina before the rest of us?!??
@AI-Generation Link packs it in his... satchel? What does Link put his stuff in? Anyway, it's in there, sloshing around. Saucy boots.
I thought it was going to be another one of those with a millennial adult playing the game and recalling his childhood/and or playing with their child, perhaps they feel they already overused that trope far too much.
Where is sleeping Odyssey Mario dreaming about lasagna?
I reckon he's pretending that's he heartbroken. Secretly he broke up with them because Zelda and GTA were almost out and didn't want to be disturbed.
**** mom, that's not enough lasagna to serve me, let alones the rest o' yous - better whack in some garlic bread.
But why's he not hooking up with the lovely that poked her head round the door?
oooo that is new footage for OOT! nintendo is spreading all new peaks through various ads, videos and other means!
Great add, actually feels like a realistic depiction of Switch 2 players, and life as an "adult" while still being a gamer lol.
@thenikdavies Not a smart choice in this era where the future prospects of a family are slim to none. Alas the media has done its job with the scrubbing of the brains to make people think thats good.
Ugh...so cheesy.
I don't know what to cry over, the heartwarming message about family or how good that new Ocarina of Time gameplay footage looks.
@Hirsbrunner Nothing wrong with a little extra cheese, especially nowadays. I wasn't expecting Nintendo to cover a breakup, like at all, but it had a nice message about family so I can't complain and we did get some new footage of Ocarina of Time.
Commercials don't make me want to buy anything. But they can make me emotional.
Of course what made me cry is we don't have trains in this ***** hole country.
This ad was pretty bad at pulling heart strings but it sure tried hard.
@LeafMeAlone I guess you're right. It's just the situations they portray in these commercials are completely foreign to me. To each their own, I suppose.
@imopthefloors Good. I don't need needy Lil'Nik's ruining my Switch 2 time
Quite a good ad actually. Took me back to my homesickness in my first term at Uni (many years ago-I had a Gameboy, not a Switch 2 type of years ago).
@UpsideDownRowlet I thought he was going to to send the lasagna via game chat and that would be Nintendo announcing the Switch 2 can transport matter XD
@Yomerodes So you mean real life? I play games with my kids.
Video games can help heal heartbreaks.
I prefer the awkward teenager trying to get closer to his brother's female friend by – (checks notes) – training some amiibo in Smash Brothers.
Though they never beat the ad with Robin Williams and his daughter.

I preferred when they would make kickass games and I'd decide for myself how to feel about them.
Awww that was so cute I'm actually tearing up at work rn
Is this already something uncommon enough in the UK to the point that this is "tear-jerking?" Because this sort of family dynamic is pretty common, even expected, where I'm from.
This f**king advert keeps playing on the telly and it’s more of an advert for the nonexistent trains than the actual Switch 2.
lol. Funny stuff.
More of this please.
@electrolite77 Ah Uni. I remember it well...
I had an N64. My roommate & I would play Turok & battle in Killer Instinct, while our neighbors also had one but Goldeneye & Mario Kart were their games of choice.
Better times.
Honestly made me cry and brought all the memories flooding back. I got Ocarina of Time for my 50th birthday a week after it came out I'm 78 now and looking forward to the remake ☺️
It's a very nice commercial but I've never had a family like that or anything close... 😓
@Misima I love you. I'm sorry. Your response was too good 😹
Very underwhelming.
Nowhere near the lonely tired man on the bus from Nintendo Australia a few years ago.
@wizzgamer yeah. When Link eliminates Ganendorf, just puts a little bit of a sweet spot in my heart lol. 😭
Even muted, I can tell this isn't an American ad because it features someone playing a Nintendo Switch 2 on a train.
(Trains in the U.S. are expensive, inconvenient, and rare.)
I met my recently ex-wife just before the Gamecube came out. Iver the years, we got a Wii and a Wii U for the kids. A couple of those kids are now hooked on Tomodachi Life. Now I'm playing on my Switch 2 by myself 😞.
@wizzgamer your story is way more wholesome than the ad! 78 and rockin a Switch 2 and soon OOT Remake, good for you! I wonder if videogames as we know them will still be here 28 years from now, heck the way things are going we might not even have a world to live in… (I’ll be 50 next year).
@Ploppy awww :’-( hang in there buddy
@DashKappei I am 46 years, close to 50. The Nintendo magic still holds for us, the elders
