Kinetic Publishing and Half Mermaid Productions have announced Precognition, a new horror game from Sam Barlow, creator of Immortality and Her Story, and Brandon Cronenberg, director of films such as Possessor and Infinity Pool.
Originally teased as 'Project C', Precognition follows in the footsteps of Immortality by presenting a non-linear FMV story in which you follow Diana, a woman who is able to view visions of the future after an experimental implant is embedded into her brain. You'll have to explore these visions and commit specific moments to Diana's memory in the present day, thus potentially altering the future.
It's confirmed for Switch 2, but we've unfortunately got a bit of a long wait on our hands with this one. Precognition is targeting a release in Spring 2028.
Here's what creator Sam Barlow had to say:
“We’ve really been trying to test the limits of non-linear storytelling, focusing on how the game feels to play, while encouraging player agency and freedom. We’ve pushed ourselves even harder with Precognition by bringing the feel of investigation and mystery games into a world of cause-and-effect, with a story that spins out as a consequence of your choices.”
And Brandon Cronenberg also chimed in with the following:
“The films I make tend to be subjective and experiential, with the horror emerging as one person’s perspective of the world warps around them. The games that Sam and the team have made over the years are subjective experiences by their very nature - no two people will have the same experience with them. So it’s the perfect place to explore these themes further”.
We're very curious to see more from Precognition in the months ahead, but in the meantime, how about a Switch 2 port for Immortality and Her Story, hmm?
