Even if it definitely isn't an amazing game, I did really enjoy my time with Frontiers on Switch so I'm glad it was successful. I do hope that the concept they had here does get fleshed out even more and make the sandbox Sonic title on the same level as a 3D Mario

I really liked this game, but I played the Xbox Series X version.

Well deserved! I had a blast playing it on Xbox Series X.

Frontiers is my favorite Sonic game and I’m glad that anyone who has the game can now grab the free grind shoe costume for Sonic. I’m still annoyed at Sega for not giving us an upgrade path for the definitive edition, but if I had to guess the game will get a decent discount in a few months.

Got this for my kid on PS4 or 5. They played it for an hour before heading off to college. Forgot we had it until reading this. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl. I wonder if it’s still installed?

Nintendo Life using Pushsquares blue is kinda weird. Wasn’t sure what website I was on there for a few seconds.

...to me, 7/10 after all the free dlc. not a bad one to get pulled into the series' games proper with!

seeing what they did with shadow generations, i'm very much looking forward to whatever a frontiers 2 could look like, especially since sega seems more willing to give sonic team time and a budget for a bigger staff again. imagine a frontiers-style game with shadow gens controls and level design, and an actual level of polish...

Sonic fans are like Pokemon fans. Just shovel whatever nonsense out there and they'll eat it up.

While I did beat this game I did not enjoy it. Putting Sonic in an RPG style open world that's not an RPG just doesn't flow very well. They really need to return to the Sonic Adventure formula soon, just try to get a better camera control and a balance between on-rail speed run and platforming gameplay.

If only the Switch 2 version of Frontiers was better than what we got.

How? The game is garbage, on ALL formats.
That said, if Switch 2 was a physical id have bought it but they didn’t even bother to do a proper release and just opted for a game key card.
And after they did a real physical for sonic racing. Just weird

@Splash_Woman It's still surprising they haven't ported either Adventure games to modern systems yet there's like 4 ports of Sonic 2 on Switch, was kinda hoping at least when they said Sonic Adventure 2 item they meant something new then the soap shoes.

I feel like some Sonic games are kinda like Pokemon games but to a much lesser extent. As in generally strong gameplay loop but the games definetly needed more time in the oven. I think that sums up Fronteirs to a tee. Not that it's a buggy mess (it's not) like Pkmn ScarVi but the game looks and feels kinda underbaked.

I think Fronteirs is certainly good enough to achieve 5 million copies though and I'm glad it hit the milestone. Plus it seems like the unpolished age might be coming to an end soon, since Sonic X Shadow and Sonic Racing were both pretty well made!

So fun fact about me. I really want to play Sonic Unleashed (legally) and it is the one and only thing making buying an Xbox 360 or Series X remotely sound attractive to me.

Congratulations! It surprised me, how fun this game was. I played the PlayStation 5 version. After this game, I have high hopes for the series.

@BrokenCiv TBF, Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise on the planet and has sold over $130.7 billion worldwide. Comparing Sonic to Pokemon is like comparing The Dave Clark Five to The Beatles or Selena Gomez to Taylor Swift so I am not surprised it took a Sonic game that long to sell as much as what Pokemon can sell in 4 months.

@BrokenCiv Yes. It does because a lot of haters just like to hate on Sonic for the fun of it and will use anything they find to put Sonic down so they can look cool to the rest of the hate bandwagon. It is the same with DC and AEW. Always looking for a reason to hate instead of writing about things they like.

A decent Switch 2 port...though if you play it's weirdly best played in different modes depending on docked/undocked.

If docked, quality mode is best as the visuals take too much of a hit in performance (not worth it imo)

Yet undocked, the performance mode is best since the visuals still look decent on the smaller screen.

Completed this on Switch Lite, it had a Burnout Paradise compelling blandness about it that I just kept dithering on with.

@LikelySatan and just like poor, poor gamefreak, the poor multibillion company that is Sega couldn’t shill out a game past the beta stages, who knows, maybe the 60 million dollar revenue this game generated will finally tip them to develop a sonic game past the pre-alpha build! 😛

Could have been cool if they included the handheld versions of Colours and Generations alongside their rereleases. They're bound to be someone's favourite, right?

@StarCollector Black Knight with a button mod is certainly a favorite of mine. Makes the game play like how it was advertised and be just as stylish too.

@somnambulance I mean, the "boost" games barely require any player input. I would argue that all they go for is "cinema."

Sorry but I tried to get into this game 3 different times and it’s just bland to me. The controls are too complicated, there are too many weird menus and pop ups and it’s just not feeling worth the effort you have to put in.
The formula worked great for Zelda, in my opinion, not so much for Sonic.
I also really dislike 3D Sonic games so I went in with a few points deducted and a negative bias right off the bat. Still though, this has to be the best selling Sonic since Mania right?! Pretty cool achievement regardless.
