It's finally happened! During today's Nintendo Direct, we found out that we're finally getting a brand new Theatrythm game on the Switch. Consoles haven't seen a new rhythm-based Final Fantasy game since the 3DS' Curtain Call, but now, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line will be changing that when it launches on 16th February 2023.
This new game in the cutesy music game will be bringing 385 songs to the base game, and DLC and a Season Pass will be available to buy after the game's launch.
Music from other Square Enix games such as NieR, Live A Live, Octopath Traveler, and more will be available.

I never expected to see a new Theatrythm. And this is... A whole lot of songs.
I spent waaaay too much time playing the 3DS games. Not super keen because I already have a lot of rhythm games I'd like to play that I never find the time for but I'll likely get it and end up with a few hundred hours in it before long anyway.
500+ songs? Yeah let me get that digital deluxe. I love the octopath soundtrack.
My personal highlight of the direct. I have been hoping for a sequel or at least a port of the originals for years. This will be a day one purchase without any hesitation
I remember playing the demo for the first one and it was pretty good so I might get this one.
The highlight of the presentation for me.
Not a fan of the "digital deluxe" nonsense when they'll be paywalling certain FF songs, since I care nothing for any of the DLC tracks they mentioned.
The 3DS versions were such addicting games. I’ll definitely end up getting this eventually. Dunno about the DLC, but I do love the music in Octopath and Live A Live…
This was a rather unexpected announcement. My concern is the cost of all the DLC, but will see as time goes on. I kind of wish the Dragon Quest one they did for 3DS would get a local release.
Oof. That much DLC is gonna cost an arm and a leg.
Also, I'm kinda concerned about the gameplay. How's gonna work? That looked like the stylus controls from the 3DS games (no button prompts, just color#) which... yeah, I dunno. I can't see that working well on the Switch. Presumably there'll be button-input as well, but it's kinda weird they didn't show it.
I'm piqued, however I knew Square would have hella songs locked behind DLC.. oh well, guess we should just be happy it's not an NFT gatcha game at this point.
But I'm wondering.. does this work as well in docked with a pro controller as opposed to playing touchscreen?
... Wun can only hope.
Yes! The 3DS games were my most played games! Can’t wait!
Wow! Thank you SE! This is now my most anticipated game along with Crisis Core & EDF 6
Theaterhythm is one of my most favorite 3DS games and I couldn’t be happier! A personal highlight out of the whole direct next to Rain Code.
My favourite announcement of the Direct along with Pikmin 4. bring it on.
Loved those games on 3DS so I'm supposed to be hyped about this.. but first we need more info about the controls.
This one was a pleasant surprise. I know curtain call released a little early into XIVs life but I hope it better represents it's music. XIVs music is phenomenal and the 3ds game poorly showed it imo
Can I just download the music library at the same price? Love game soundtracks, but most rhythm games are not for me.
No physical version?
@Anachronism the last game on 3DS had a music player where you could listen to all the songs. So it will probably have this option on the new game as well.
I’ll log in to FFXIV just to throw some fireworks for this.
I have gone from pure excitement to "Wait. How's that going to even work?" I hope it's not waggling the joystick just right. I was never good at Guitaroo Man.
@infernogott Good to know. That makes it a bit more enticing.
This made the direct for me, Squeenix with the hard carry once again.
I played the heck out of Curtain Call and still drop by with plenty of songs never even touched and plenty of characters not even maxed out. Definitely getting this one at some point, possibly even the biggest bundle since I expect the total to guarantee the presence of all the 3DS DLC items (assuming they aren't in the base game now) I likely won't be able to purchase anymore. And I'm curious what other possible new mechanics and quirks may get unveiled later!
Unironically one of the more exciting bits of news today for me.
Kupos UNITE!! What a welcome surprise. Been anticipating this since Curtain Call.
I'm definitely pre-ordering Digital Deluxe.
@Kestrel Curtain Call actually had button mode, but I do have the same concerns. Button mode worked well enough, so I can see this game being playable no problem. My issue is that button mode just couldn't compete with stylus gameplay.
My 600 hours between the two 3ds games says this will still be a day one purchase regardless and I'm likely going to enjoy the heck out of it anyway. 😃
Not fan of rhythm games so its defo skip
I'm really excited, but the digital-exclusive songs (not the DLC, but the digital deluxe bonus songs) are disappointing. Assuming it does get a physical release, that means I'd be missing out on a lot of songs.
@Anonymiles Funny. I prefer the button mode. But I'm not big into touch screen gaming.
