The Yooka-Laylee developer and publisher Playtonic Games has issued a warning via social media about a new scam currently doing the rounds - linked to a game it's publishing.
It seems "someone" is offering a beta test opportunity for MegaWobble's Lil Gator Game. scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms this year. Apparently, it's actually a scam.
Here's the full rundown from Playtonic, advising players not to click any links provided in scam messages:
"It has come to our attention that someone is offering beta testing for Lil Gator Game. We can confirm this is a SCAM and not from Playtonic or @LilGatorGame. If we were offering this to our communities we would announce it on our Twitter and not via any other channels.
"Please do NOT click the links provided in the scam message! If you receive any suspicious messages claiming to be from Playtonic please let us know. Stay safe everyone"
In Lil Gator Game, players will embark on an "adorable" adventure - discover new friends and uncover everything an island has to offer as they climb, swim, glide and slide about. You can learn about this game in our original story:
Be on the lookout for a Lil Gator release date announcement in the near future.

I didn’t even know this game existed till now.
Why the H do people feel the need to do this kind of crap to other people???
Seriously, these kinds of people need a serious, HEFTY dose of the good ol' karma. And some time away in the slammer.
Looks really good!
Stay off the hook, don’t get cooked 🤙
I bet getting scammed would still be better than playing Yooka Laylee
@NinjaNicky yeah it just shot up on my radar
@Yosher money, you can use it to buy food /clothing/ a roof over your head etc. most people want money
@Snatcher Me neither, and now I want to play that dem- oh wait
You'd think people would know not to put their hand inside the mouth of a crocodile smh.
Seriously though: this sucks for both Playtonic and MegaWobble. Hopefully they're game gets released without anyone else nefarious trying to take advantage of it.
@Mauzuri There are absolutely people you can trust though. I don't like that "you can't trust anybody" mentality, that is incredibly shortsighted. I know plenty of trustworthy people, both offline and online.
@thefoxystoat Stooping to criminal activities for money should never be the way to go though. I get that people may do such a thing out of desperation but like. Don't attack innocent people for it. That may bring other people into their own financial problems, possibly even creating a domino effect as it were. They really need to think twice before committing to these kinds of stupid things.
@Mauzuri Trust no-one, not even yourself
@thefoxystoat
Wow. I didn't know about this game and have been waiting for Yooka Laylee 3 but I will definitely be getting this while I wait for the sequel.
@Snatcher that may be the point of the PSA.
@Yosher 'criminal activities' what like being gay? what are or arent 'criminal activities' is decided based not on morals but on who is in power.
if people don't look in to something and then get ***** out of money, survival of the fittest , if these tricks didnt work people wouldnt use them, and if there is a trick someone can do to make money, if they need food/shelter ur gna have a hard time convcing them to not use a method that works , you could just as easily say someone that parts with their money without knowing what its for deserves to get scammed, its the real world and a slap on the back of the wrist isnt going to stop scamming as a whole
@Mauzuri when you only trust yourself you are way more vulnerable that someone that trusts, someone that wants to manipulate you would just need to present information in such a way that you think you have come to the conculsion yourself. id take trust, discussion and critical thinking any day
@Mauzuri Actually, studies show that people that tend to trust others are more successful in life. It will lead to more friends and reliable contacts.
@thefoxystoat It's called being a decent human being.
Generally, older folks aren't going to be all that familiar with technology, and this are more likely to click on a link they deem safe because they think it came from their child or from the bank or whatever. Are you saying all these older people deserve to be robbed of all of their money???
I know scammers aren't going to stop, but I'm also not going to stop wishing all of them a hefty dose of karma for causing any kind of harm to other people, and I'm never going to stoop to a level that low either. I'll stick to being a kind person who enjoys bringing smiles on people's faces, thank you very much.
If you really believe in that kind of "survival of the fittest", then honestly? Sorry to say but I don't think I would want anything to do with you if so.
The good thing about this news is, I found out about a cool game. Seems like A Short Hike with a happier tone. And it also seems surprisingly childfriendly for a Playtonic game. They usually have a more cheaky, grown up tone.
I hope no one gets scammed and Playtonic gets instead positive publicity in form of people finding out about this game.
@KillerBOB
You must have not played the excellent Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair
This game looks really cute, sucks to see a scam of it going around... that's the industry for ya ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌
@Yosher lolll karma is as real as heaven and hell but go off. bears are epic and survival of the fittest so idwhat point ur trying to make other than people can choose to be lame or badass like a bear
