Industry legend Takahashi Meijin, known for his work with Hudson Soft alongside his '16 shot per second' trigger finger, proves he's still got what it takes to mash buttons at the age of 63.
In a video shared on Twitter, Meijin tackles the Pokey Pummel mini-game in Mario Party Superstars, blasting through the game in just 5.16 seconds. While not a world record, as such, it proves that age hasn't slowed him down one bit (heh...), and watching his trigger finger at work is a true marvel.
Quite impressive, indeed! Considering he was 27 years old when he accomplished the '16 shot' he's become known for, it's clear that he's been maintaining such incredible speed in the years since.
We were lucky enough to speak with Meijin back in 2009 about his work with Hudson Soft, his favourite shooters, and the hobbies he enjoys during his spare time. Check it out via the link below.
What do you think of Takahashi Meijin's incredibly quick trigger finger? Reckon you could do better? Let us know!

Hmm, will have to give this a go myself, probably will never get anywhere near but hey
I would assume he would know the perfect technique for that kind of minigame: Hudson Soft did make the original Mario Party's after all. On a similar note, could you imagine the poor playtesters who had to constantly test the mashing minigames? You can only hope they didn't get RSI.
Man. I've just gotten worse at mashing and thought it was because I was just getting older, but here this guy comes along and throws that reason right down the drain. XD
Having this kind of trigger finger at 63 (or even just now ) is the dream. Mad respect for this guy
master takahashi will never be beaten in our lifetimes, i think
And I thought my partner had a quick hand, lol (she put it down to the GF summons in FFVIII)
Hudson soft, one of the best devs of all time
Mash 'x' to pay massive respect
I bloody LOVE Mario Party! Both the Switch Mario Party's released have been brilliant in their own ways. Super Mario Party has way more charm and an amazing character roster, the single player campaign and new minigames are awesome too (it went from a 7 out of 10 to a 10 out of 10 when they patched in online play)...But Mario Party Superstars has such nostalgia and the online is perfect in every way.
Lol, I use to do that on track and field. None of my friends could beat me.
No way I can mash buttons that fast, even in my youth. Respect for the legend for still being at the top of his game.
On a somewhat related comment, I've always thought that if Bomberman couldn't be the Hudson Soft rep in Smash, Takahashi Meijin/Master Higgins should be. My idea for his Final Smash is an attack based on the real Takahashi Meijin's "16 shots per second".
nintendoknife respect Takahashi Meijin. He is Champion. He can push a button continuously no less than 16 times in 1 second. It's sooooooooooooo great!!
In order to mash quickly, you basically just have to tense your arm, causing it to shake. Then you focus that rapid shaking into the button you need to mash. That's what's being demonstrated here.
Impressive. I'm sure Contra and Super C with the basic gun were no issue for him.
The dames must be pleased with this man.
I remember buying the DSiware app 16 Shot Shooting Watch, named after his fast inputs. I love that we have guys like him that have made a name for themselves over something both impressive and trivial at the same time.
@Esquire That's exactly what I do. It's sort of difficult to explain, but you did so succinctly.
Holy mother! Really puts us to shame. I wonder if anyone has done it less than 5 seconds
He's still the king.
I know when my mother who's 75 this December visits me or I go to visit her despite having a serious heart condition she likes to play video games too. Even though she's not as good as this guy due to her condition she's still pretty good all things considering. I think age only slows you down if you let it.
I love this more than I should
@NinChocolate yeah, right there with Cave and Treasure. All dead and buried
