Original story [Sun 27th Feb, 2022 01:30 GMT]: Digimon Con kicked off with a special Q&A featuring the Digimon Survive team. Unfortunately, the whole thing began with an apology to fans for not being able to provide any new information.
In short, there's still no release date, but producer Kazumasa Habu and the team hope fans can wait just a bit longer.
Bandai went on to explain how the game is currently being developed by a new team - and while the changes have caused a lot of uncertainty, it seems the efforts of the new development team have now got the game back on track, and a release is getting closer and closer.
Here's the full transcript (via Gematsu):
“In response to our call for inquiries, we’ve received a number of questions regarding the development status of Digimon Survive. We’re very sorry for keeping you waiting even though you’re looking forward to it. We apologize again for not providing any new information and / or keeping you waiting. We sincerely apologize for the delay.
“As we’ve already informed you, once we postponed the release due to a change in the development team, and that we are now developing the game with a new development team. Changing teams has led to a lot of rework on the game, leading to delays. This has caused a lot of uncertainty that prevented us from giving regular updates. However, thanks to the efforts of the new development team, we are now able to be back on track, getting closer and closer to the completion of the game.
“As for the release date information, it is expected to take a little longer as we’re still adjusting it internally. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the delay. But we would appreciate it if you could wait just a little longer.”
On a more positive note, a new trailer was shown for the game. Update: Bandai Namco doesn't appear to have uploaded it yet, so here's a look courtesy of the YouTube channel Matias:

Just gets longer and longer.....
So hype for this game!
Sad news, but at least they didn't cancel the game.
Darn, was hoping Digimon Con would finally provide new game information, but it is sounding like not much was shown.. but games are in development. Let's hope we can see them soon!
Just have your expectations low but also be glad they are not being force into releasing a half baked game.
Never heard of this before but I looked at the News tab on here for it and man...that's a lot of delay articles over the years.
Better than a bad game coming out, or it getting outright canceled. It's understandable that a huge delay would happen with a new development team. Nothing seems out of the ordinary to me.
This still has more reassurance than Beyond Good and Evil 2 at least. That thing is complete vaporware.
Classic case of announcing a game prematurely.
I had a feeling we'd not see Digimon Survive for a long time. I just hope all the changes they are implementing will make the game better instead of worse. Hearing that they needed to get a new team worries me, but this game could still be good.
I'm sure Digimon Noire will come out one of these days. Maybe.
This game was in development hell similar to Metroid Prime 4. Even had the dev team changeover. No idea why this game is getting so much trouble considering it’s 70% text adventure and 30% strategy gameplay apparently according to them
Just give me another Stories game at this point with a larger Digimon Roster
I think its safe to say the game is in development hell. If its in such a state where they need to swap dev teams after 3 years of delays they have absolutely no idea when they'll be finished in...and technically the last time they delayed it for "polish" the producer was lying.
At this rate the majority of its development will be the delays and I'll honestly wager we won't hear much about this game yet again until the end of the year where Habu will say "please wait until 2023".
of course there is no release date yet
It's a fight for survival to make sure the game comes out, that's for sure.
Eh, just give me more of Cyber Sleuth series. I really liked the first two games and would like to see more
By the time it does come out I'm probably just not going to care about it that much. It's just taking too long now at this stage.
With the announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet it just makes me think how many Pokemon games released between this games announcement in 2018 and now.
LGPE, SwSh, BD/SP, Legends and now SV.
Digimon Survive will have to be some game or otherwise there's no way it was worth the amount of time they spent on it holding back their own main series.
Sad that it's delayed again, but I can wait. I tried Cyber Sleuth, and it just didn't feel like Digimon to me. Digimon is about traveling to another world and making new friends and growing as a person, not putzing around the metaverse, tracking down lost crap and solving so-called mysteries. Survive looks like it could capture that feel again, so still cautiously optimistic.
Hey, at least they're taking their time to polish this game up, unlike another game series that ends in 'mon'.
I'd say, be happy that they're delaying the game to make it better rather than releasing it unpolished.
I'm mad excited for this game, but man, I'd kill for a modern console Digimon World game.
@Dubbicakes There is one on PS4. In fact presently at least in North America it's 80% off.
I'm starting to think that this game is going to be largely pared back from it's initial vision. That is if it's not vaporware altogether.
hmmmm im sure first trailer showed old school digimon turn based fight, new trailer shows grid based battle..not sure which i prefer but im kinda down for a fire emblem style digimon game
@Yosher They've changed dev teams and reworking mechanics. They're delaying it because it doesn't work, not for polish.
@Dr_Lugae That's.. another story then, yeah.
@King-Demon Nah, Digimon Survive has always been grid-based tactical RPG combat. Looks like it'll be more FFT than Fire Emblem though...
@Lizuka Oh yeah, I love Next Order, but it was a Vita game that was upscaled for PS4. I'd love to see a native console Digimon World game, ideally somewhere between Next Order and DW3.
Very cool that they're featuring more obscure digimon here
I still look forward to the game and usually I am fine with games getting delayed even if it is for a year or two... But I gotta admit that I'm losing patience since it feels like the games development isn't really progressing much at all.
I really hope that the game will actually be released
