As many suspected, Next Level Games is the developer behind the upcoming Switch release Mario Strikers: Battle League.
Nintendo didn't make any mention of this during its recent Direct announcement or the official PR, but it's now been confirmed by a rating over on the Australian Classification Board. The rating itself is 'PG' for Parental Guidance - with the game containing mild violence and online interactivity.
Next Level Games was purchased by Nintendo at the beginning of last year and is the only developer to work on the Mario Strikers series. It first started out with Super Mario Strikers (Mario Smash Football) on the GameCube in 2005, followed with Mario Strikers: Charged on the Wii in 2007, and has also worked on other series like Punch-Out!! and Luigi's Mansion.
Are you glad to hear Next Level Games is in control of the next Mario Strikers game? Comment below.

Excited for this! I hope it’s better than past sports games from Nintendo recently but over all I have enjoyed them so I’m sure I will enjoy this one also.
And thus there was much rejoicing.
I thought we already knew this?
I could tell it was them from the gorgeous models and animations, Next Level are the best
Thats what I thought, but its good to know for sure
Nintendo buying Next Level Games is one of the best decisions they've made in recent years. The Mario Strikers games, Punch Out on Wii, and Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 are all so good.
It looks like an incredible game, I'm actually pumped for it.
I am not crazy about this, but it obviously has its fans. Eight-player couch multiplayer is what may tempt me though.
Really worried that this series would never return, after the re-imaging of Mario to make him more plain and basic. Good to see that not only is Strikers back, its back in full force with the same creative team and is looking better than ever!
@iLikeUrAttitude Nope, as mentioned in the article - "Nintendo didn't make any mention of this during its recent Direct announcement or the official PR"
Nintendo made a good investment. Next level were making good looking games on the switch, and I'm so happy to see that there making this one, now I know its going to look good.
I loved how much personality every character had in the previous Mario Strikers, especially for Wii. But I worry Nintendo has gone the route of keeping all depictions of their characters clean & consistent to the point where different studios' creativity can't shine through. We've seen this with Paper Mario. I'm glad they managed to replicate the art style in-game but also hope the characters' depictions and animations are just as fun and over the top like we'd expect from Mario Strikers. Seeing a more extreme side to these character's personalities was fun and made me laugh out loud
Was it ever in doubt? I figured this was on the docket at some point in the Switch's lifetime when Nintendo officially brought them into the fold.
Awesome to hear, I really hope it's as solid as the previous games. Mario sports on switch can really lack content, and have relied on online play and "free" dlc to make up for the lack of modes and longevity
But I hope this means nintendo branches off to bring mario baseball back, that was a fav of mine
I've always wanted to play a footie game, but FIFA gives me hemorrhoids even thinking about it. This will absolutely be my outlet.
And the town's people rejoiced
Wow has it really been 15 years (!) since the last Mario Strikers game?
This game is on my wish list!
I'm shocked! Shocked!
...
...
Well, not too shocked.
I hope there are more characters to choose from, I always liked to play using a Koopa, and the games looks as fun as previous entries.
Great news!
The Mario soccer iteration on the Wii was kinda gimmicked and with unbalancing issues, but almost all other games from NLG are just awesome.
Super Mario Strikers is the best mario sports series out there, change my mind!
Ok thank you, I had a feeling already because the animation style looked very similar to LM3
Will probably get this if it ever goes on sale looks abit like FIFA street with mario & I like FIFA street alot more than the regular FIFA games
I missed this series the first time around, so I’m eager to give it a shot!
I hope this means we get another punch out from them as well.
Strikers will have very little content at launch I hope people know that Nintendo are going to purposely hold back half the content if not more and drip feed it over 1to 2 years
Played the GC one to death, but hated the Wii one. Hopefully this one is more like the GC one. It was faster. Wii one felt sluggish in comparison.
@Greatluigi yaaaay <waves flag>
It was them or camelot I thought.
@Gasarakii Yeah I was going to say something similar… Mario Golf for Switch really turned me off somehow, not enjoying it :/ Not that I’ve ever been a sports game fan, but I liked Tennis on the N64 and Golf on the GameCube.
Great it’s confirmed. You gotta love Mario football cover arts
I don’t care for football (/soccer) but throughly enjoyed previous games and would get this to add to local multiplayer selection.. MK8 and Overcooked need a new chum, and Smash Bros isn’t unanimously liked in my house 🥲
@Nintendo_Dandy I’d bet it’s next on the docket
Is there a special movie to fake being touched and roll around on the ground in imaginary agony like in real soccer?
I must be the only person who didn't like the Wii Version. I hope the gameplay is significantly better or I'll be passing on this one.
I'm not a football fan at all but I love the Strikers games, have the previous two and can't wait for this one to drop.
@Liam_Doolan They didn’t announce it in the Direct, but more diligent game journalists got to the bottom of it over a week ago.

That's great to hear! Super Excited for this game!
The presentation had Next Level written all over it!
@Circasurviver Either way, we hadn't covered this until now. It's great to see Next Level working on this series again.
I never owned any of the Mario Strikers games, so this should be a first Strikers game for me 😮
As some one whose not a big sports fan (outside of hockey), I thoroughly enjoy Mario sports titles, so I'm looking forward to this one.
