Ubisoft has announced Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection for Switch, launching on 17th February. An age-gated launch trailer can be viewed on YouTube highlighting the release.
This long-rumoured collection will include the acclaimed Assassin's Creed II, the excellent Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed Revelations, plus Assassin’s Creed Lineage and Assassin’s Creed Embers, two short films featuring Ezio.
Although the Ezio Collection has launched elsewhere, Ubisoft describes this releases as 'exclusive', mentioning various Switch-specific features such as "Handheld Mode, HD Rumble, Touchscreen Interface, and Optimized HUD". As with the versions available on other platforms, it will also feature all the original single player DLC for each game.
The game will cost $39.99 and is getting a physical release... sort of. Assassin's Creed II will come on the cart, while the others will be codes that require a digital download. Here's the full footnote from Ubisoft's press release:
Assassin’s Creed® II game available on cartridge. Assassin’s Creed® Brotherhood, Revelations, Embers, Lineage and audio package for additional languages are provided as digital content to download (max. of 35 GB). Internet connection required. Content activable after cartridge insertion. MicroSD card required to unlock full collection at once.
Here are some more details on the games included in the official PR, plus some screenshots:
Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection includes:
Assassin’s Creed II. In this opus, players will embody Ezio, a new Assassin carrying on the deadly lineage of his forebears through Renaissance Italy, including Florence and Venice. Thrive in an environment rich with power, revenge and conspiracy, as they hone their art, wielding weapons and instruments designed by the legendary Leonardo da Vinci himself. All solo DLC is available along the single-player campaign.
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. Playing as Ezio is an enduring struggle against the powerful Templar Order, all fans will journey into Italy’s most renowned city, Rome, center of power, greed, and corruption. This will require not only strength, but leadership, as they will command an entire Brotherhood who will rally to their side. All solo DLC is available along the single-player campaign.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations. In this game, Ezio must leave his life behind in search of answers. Player will walk in the footsteps of their legendary mentor, Altaïr, on a journey of discovery and revelation. This perilous path takes them to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where a growing army of Templars threaten to destabilize the region. All solo DLC is available along the single-player campaign.
Extra Bonus: Two Films about Ezio. In addition to gameplay, this collection also includes two short films that dive even deeper into Ezio’s story, Assassin’s Creed Lineage® and Assassin’s Creed Embers™.

Should have happened a while ago, but this is cool.
My mum’s been playing AC2 the last week or two. Forgot how good it really was.
Physical release or hard pass.
I could never get into these games. Great for fans of these games cause I know they have been wanting this for awhile now.
At last! My favorite games in the series.
I could've sworn this was on switch ages ago
Looks like Physical will only have AC2 and the rest needs to be downloaded. I'm still going to get this trilogy though.
who in their right mind would wanna dive into this, lol. ubi soft is one of the worst companies
AC2 is on of the best games I ever played. Great story and great ending.
@Magician
The article actually details this.
Assassin's Creed II comes on the cartridge, the rest is all downloaded weighing in around and up to 35GB.
@Poco_Lypso The device you used to type that comment was produced using child labour. I get the sentiment, but at the same time cancel culture is super cringy to me because they only seem to care about things that are social media-relevant in order to boost their social image or image of self while ignoring far more important issues.
I didn't buy any Assassin's Creed on the Switch, but I'd buy Ezio Collection,AC3 Remaster and Rebel Collection if they release the first game too. And AC Chronicles too.
Not gonna support a company who’s faster at adding nft in their games rather than getting rid of sexual harassment in the business …
I am interested to see what's on the cartridge
@RupeeClock Yup, I'm just being obnoxious, like a wet fart. I'm happy to see AC II is on the cartridge as I have zero affinity for the rest of the series sans AC IV (which I already own a copy of, naturally).
@Tasuki same here. They just aren’t for me.
How appropriate that UbiSoft are best known for a series of games about a man who plunges something into his victims without their consent.
Yves Guillemot needs to resign and let somebody who's actually going to do something about sexual assault take charge.
Best games in the series. Easily day one for me!
I hope this runs well on Switch.
@Magician article said it has physical release but…
If it runs well on Switch, this is a day 1 for me.
Big fan of Asassin creed i only didnt like valhalla.
Odyssee i still play, and enjoy alot.
I also play blackflag on the switch.
I will def buy this one.
There it is. Day 1
Does anyone know if each game will be available as separate downloads or if it's an all-in-one package? I don't see it on the eShop yet, but I'm wondering what the total download size is (is it 35GB or more?).
I enjoyed the Rogue Collection quite a bit, but ended up deleting it just because of how much space the digital download took up. It's a nice collection, but a bit inefficient when much of the "extra content" can be polished off in under 2 hours and after that, it's a waste of space.
I liked CDPR's approach with The Witcher 3 on Switch - it was initially released as an all-in-one package and they later replaced it with Base Game + DLCs + Extras so people can save space and only download what they want to use. The current digital version is actually 10GB smaller than it was initially released, which tells me they went back and deleted bloat assets that weren't being used. I wish other developers were more mindful of how precious file space is on Switch, especially those using cards under 100GB.
The movies should have been something optional because it unnecessarily bloats for that 35GB download. The multiple languages also should have been optional. Learn from how other ports did things. Anyone this is all moot if Ubisoft does a half assed job for this port that has no excuse to not run well on Switch
@Magician AC2 is on cart, rest is a 35gb download.
Was to be expected, PS5 and Xbox push more the digital route since PS4 and XBO, and Switch cartridges are expensive not to mention the shortages.
Also Ubisoft... this alone says a lot too
And for people that "demand" a full physical game, you are out of luck and this sadly the future.
Don't demand something that is not going to happen, better option is to vote with your wallet but remember this is going to happen more often too... I already see a lot of Switch games that had a proper physical release, get a re-release with code in a box only.
I hate it
People hate it
But like with many stuff, the majority of people is fine with this and thus this is going to happen more often.
About time.. the best story driven game by ubisoft.
Hmmm so I can get only Assassins Creed 2 on the cartridge Kind of disappointing.
I was so excited for this…………up until the forced download bit. I’ll pass.
@Zuljaras I hard passed on the series on the Nintendo Switch because Rogue was a required download... oh well
@Fazermint not really my fault hewlett packard is getting rich on child labor. its the world we are living in.
Too bad. I'd have probably paid £25 for each of the three games on their own game card, but if they insist on bundling it all as one purchase with two-thirds download only, it's not gonna happen for me, especially if it's just download codes rather than the card acting as download key.
I have the collection on PS4 so that will probably have to suffice. But ideally I'd have the whole series on game cards for Switch.
In other news, it's good to see the ignore button still works.
@moodycat
Best you skip it then. These 3 games are chock full of modern day (Thank God!)
So it's finally coming to Switch. I enjoyed Assassin's Creed The Rebel Collection, so I'll be getting this. If the Collection came complete on cartridge it would've been a day 1 purchase. Now I'll wait for a price drop of around $20.
FINALLY! Always wanted a shot at these. I've only played the original III, and Black Flag so far.
@NintendoByNature
AC2 is my favorite game of all time. I might actually get this just to have it on the go, depending on how it runs
@DTfeartheBEARD yeah I'll be in the same boat. Just got the rebel collection for 15 so happy days
@Sasuke94 seems on AC 2 is on the cartridge. Capcom way. I hope the rest at least in Form of update and not a 1 time code.
Absolutely buzzing for this!
@Magician Assassin’s Creed® II game available on cartridge. Assassin’s Creed® Brotherhood, Revelations, Embers, Lineage and audio package for additional languages are provided as digital content to download (max. of 35 GB). Internet connection required. Content activable after cartridge insertion. MicroSD card required to unlock full collection at once.
@Tyranexx boom! Next month.
Hardest of passes. What a joke. I'd like to play Brotherhood, but it's not available on GOG and I won't buy it digitally if available separately either as the so-called "physical" release will inevitably plummet in price to the extent that it would be cheaper to buy that than any of the standalone releases in the eShop.
If publishers want to issue physical releases in these situations, then they should opt for a premium release on 32GB/64GB cart or budget-priced standalone releases. Throw in a few cheaply made trinkets in a box to justify the premium if you must, though I'd prefer it all in a standard case.
35 GBs?
They had all this time and opportunity to further improve the efficiency of the game and it got... Bigger?
Is the next straight port going to be 200 GBs next?
@moodycat There are a lot more modern elements, but that's because they are actually telling a story in the modern time that ties in with what you're doing as Ezio. In 2 and Brotherhood you'll pop out of the Animus quite a bit, but the sections aren't too long. In Revelations, you'll be in the Animus as Ezio for most of the time, as the "modern day" parts there are pretty much optional
If you enjoy Assassin's Creed games, or are even slightly intrigued of the settings of Italy, Rome, or Constantinople, you really don't want to miss these games. Trust me, the Ezio/Assassin stuff more than makes up for the modern sections, which isn't something you can say about all AC titles
I'm one of those that never really have gotten into the AC games, although I've bought quite a few over the years (ACII, Liberation, the PSP one, Chronicles and The Rebel Collection on Switch).
The one I've played by far the most is Chronicles and that's probably the odd one in this context, but I'm redownloading The Rebel Collection now to give it another chance (maybe I should try Rogue first this time - seems it has a reputation of being a bit different).
There it is- finally!
I assume gyro aiming is included, though they didn't mention it. It was included for every other AC game on the system.
Already got the physical preordered and will grab the digital version as soon as preorders go live.
Yes will definitely get this, I do only like Assassin's Creed 2 anyways, the rest felt like DLCs or expansion to that game so it make sense for those not to be included on the cart.
AC1 port in 3 years
I wish they didn't ditch the multiplayer in these collections. I know it was very flawed but I had a blast playing it back on PS3.
Recently finished Black Flag and am now currently playing though Roque, will check this collection out soon enough!
Nice! Too late, though, they should´ve released it years ago XD. I´ll wait for a discount.
Well that solves what to give my brother on his birthday this year.
Do they hate the first game that much? Anyway I will get this when it is 20 bucks for brotherhood and revelations.
Isn't this widely considered a very shoddy set of ports to begin with? Could only imagine it'd be even worse on the Switch.
@Arawn93 nothing in here suggests that they won't be seperate downloads from each other, all the text said was that the maximum download limit for everything is 35gb.
@HollowSpectre That was a good deal, I hope you enjoy it! Ubisoft games ALWAYS drop in price fast, so it won't take long. Far Cry 6 is already $20 and it came out in October!
@Lizuka Switch is more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360 so these should run better.
Great games but already have them on the PS4
@Specter_of-the_OLED Right, but I'm specifically referring to the Ezio collection which was for PS4 and One and is widely seen as a mess. Don't see any reason to think if these went poorly on those that they'd go any better on Switch.
@Lizuka I played the Ezio collection on PS4 and didn't run into any issues. I don't know if that makes me an outlier or maybe it had issues which were then patched. I don't see any reason it shouldn't run well on Switch, but then again the GTA games had no reason to run so shoddily yet here are.
@Lizuka it wasn’t “widely seen as a mess”, it was a pretty good collection which most people liked, the only controversy there was is that some people tried to stink up the remaster by pointing at how “bad an npc in the background of 1 cutscene looks”.
The games played and looked great since day 1, Assassins Creed 4 on Switch is one of the best ports on the system, so there’s nothing pointing to this being a “bad release”
Definitely purchase this for my collection 😉😉
May get it at a deep sale, played it before and it was amazing, but personally I like Black Flag best.
Absolutely I will buy this!
<download codes>
Nevermind...
Good stuff, haven't picked up the rebel collection yet, but nice to see more Assassin's Creed coming to Switch.
The first Assassin's Creed game should be ported to the Switch. I'm getting tired of Ubisoft forgetting about it.
YES, FINALLY... I played II years ago and it crashed just before the final scene. The game is SO good, so of course I'm going to get it again. No problem with the digital download... I'll just get rid of some of the unused stuff... and for 39.99 it's a steal... 3 games + DLC + movies... I"m in day 1.
Nope, not interested in buying Ubisoft games when the money is just going to go to fund their NFT scam business
Only AC2 on cartridge, I am out.
Well, colour me interested, as long as the ports are good. Shame that we're playing catch up and Nintendo players still won't get to experience where the series began, but at least it's a step in the right direction towards finally having at least everything up to IV on Switch.
I played through AC2 on my old 360 and loved it. I also played through Black Flag on the WiiU and loved that even more. Bought Black Flag for my switch thinking I’d give it another play though and I think I played it for about 15 minutes total…….so while I heartily recommend this for someone new I don’t think I’ll be picking it up.
This is cool, I’ll definitely pick this up.
I don't understand. Why not a full physical release?
I'm happy that fans are happy, but after playing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th, I am done with this series forever. I miss prince of persia and would love to see that entire series ported over. Even the terrible next gen one would all be day 1 purchases. But we just keep getting the AC games which i am just exhausted with. The overall gameplay loop just became boring and I don't care about story as much as gameplay.
When assassins creed and Ubisoft used to be good
hard pass seriously enough with having just one game on cartridge while the other 2 downloadable this practice needs to stop it just shows how lazy ubisoft along with few others have become.
@PunkRx_Lockly
In this particular case it just seems like the size is far too large. All the included content in this compilation even without ACII (which comes in the cart) appears to be about 35 GB. The biggest Switch cart available is the 32 GB ProjektRed used with Witcher 3 and Square Enix with Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2...and even that size would not be enough for all this games.
Now Megaman X Legacy Collection on the other hand -.-
@RiasGremory While I agree that Ubisoft is the epitome of laziness, the collection wouldn't even fit on a disc, as it's so large, not sure how this would be different for a switch cartridge.
@Yomerodes Thank you for explaining that.
@Nin10doh cartridges can hold more data then cds.
Great! Another future black friday purchase im going to make and never get to. massive backlog.
@Poco_Lypso Good Game, Bad company, Don't really care about that SJW crap. I just want to play games.
The only AC game I've ever played was Rouge as a free game on GWG for Xbox 360. I enjoyed it for a few good hours but for some reason stopped playing it. I want to give the series another go this time (obviously on the Switch) and I am not sure what game would get me back to it. I've heard some good things about this from a good friend/classmate when we worked on a company together sometime during the early PS3/X360 era. Maybe I'll check this one out.
Great, only one game on the cartridge, hard pass thanks
@FaraDive
OK - whats with this SJW thing - am i missing something here?
I'll buy it if it's not a bloody buggy mess... and on sale!
Best memories with these 3 games in the AC series. Will buy this just to support the chance of Ezio returning in the series.
They managed a good port of Rogue & Black Flag do i expect this to be well done but im not touching it. The buck ends with Black Flag as far as the old style games go for me, i feel that Black Flag was the culmination of all the games before it.
Syndicate was a terrible game through and through.
Honestly, i would even rather have Origins than this.
Hard Pass
To finaly play this game is a dream come true , as i had not a console back in the days . But i dont know when i will play it , as i just bought the witcher 3 , and pokemon arceus is coming soon. And dont forget about zelda btw 2 that is going to be released in 2022.
@Gamer_Zeus
Black Flag was great, Ubisoft 100% should have created a new IP with that game although they are sure to have diluted it by now with many sequels. Prince of Persia revival would be nice, Sands of Time remaster? Also, please stop releasing games that require more space to store than the console actually has built in! This is unethical unless there is a micro SD card in the box too!
See, it only took half a year since my purchase on Ubisoft Store to coax these games onto Switch.😂 Although it was only two of them, to be fair - IIRC I had previously got ACII itself from a giveaway on the same platform. But can you see now why I had multiple motives to buy Dishonored 2 on PC earlier?😆
All that's left is to finish the first game on the laptop (its odds of getting re-released anywhere remain seemingly paper-thin), possibly even eschewing some side content (unless those promised "memories" are literal and add to the big picture or at least the covered period's lore) so I can start the next binge entry on the most appropriate hardware for such games... and idly spend up to 100 hours there before I even move on to Brotherhood. Yes, Switch has spoiled me rotten. 😅😆
Will be interesting if it is a cartridge + single use code. I checked my AC3 remastered case and it was just a cartridge + download requirement
@PunkRx_Lockly because it won't fit on a 32GB Switch cartridge (it's 35GBs on PS4 and 42GBs on Xbox One) and most companies aren't willing to spend the money to have their games put on a 64GB cartridge, since the cartridges themselves are very expensive, more so than cds.
@MsJubilee it hasn't been stated by Ubisoft themselves, but i'm pretty confident they are giving the first game the remake treatment. It's the only explanation i can think of for not re-releasing the first.
@Magician they can't do a physical release. The biggest switch cartridge is 32GB, the game on PS4 is 35GB and 42GB on the Xbox One.
I'll be picking this up. I am currently working through 3 right now. Now if they'd give us the OG assassin's Creed I'd be happy. Then I'd have 1-4 on the same system.
@Balladeer OH SNAP
@CheerfulAmnesia That's incorrect. The largest cartridge is 64GB. It's just that it's so expensive no publisher is using it. Not even Nintendo themselves.
@Donutman Honestly, I don't think there is much value in the series after the Rebel Collection. They stopped any semblance of long-term narrative with characters after the Kenway games. All that will soon be on the Switch is pretty much all there should be, sad to say. Maybe they could eventually port AC1 digitally though..
With this release, the only AC games yet to come to Swtich (not counting the first one) are Unity and beyond. But come on, Syndicate should at least be possible...
The audio better NOT be compressed!
