Thanks to a new partnership with The Palace of Versailles, Ubisoft has announced an all-new Rabbid augmented reality game for mobile.
Called 'Rabbids @ Versailles', this free app lets visitors of the palace take part in ten AR minigames which aim to give children "a fun-filled learning experience". These games take the form of a treasure hunt in which the Rabbids have invaded the palace's gardens – players must flush them out as they try to track down the mysterious Rabbid Louis XIV.
The AR tech will kickstart each of the ten minigames when you arrive at the correct area, helping visitors to discover sites such as the Latona Basin, the Parterre of the Orangery and the groves found around the French gardens.
The whole thing reminds us of Nintendo's Louvre Museum guide for 3DS, which also aimed to teach visitors a thing or two about the pieces on display, although it's worth noting that Rabbids @ Versailles can only be played while visiting the palace. It can be downloaded as we speak on iOS and Android.
Of course, if you're not lucky enough to be visiting the French capital and its surrounding areas anytime soon, there's always Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope to look forward to. Ubisoft's next Rabbid adventure featuring Mario and co. arrives on Switch in 2022.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why France had a revolution.
Sounds legit, kids always get bored to tears at Versailles long before their parents are done exploring. Versailles is magnificent, but it's not the most kid-friendly place.
@nessisonett Ladies and gentlemen, this is the revolution
Remind me to never visit the palace then.😑
I suppose it ends with the Rabbid Louis getting his head stuck in a guillotine....
@YusseiWarrior3000 Rabbids appear in numerous games on numerous nintendo systems and they first appeared on a Wii launch title, which already made their ninty association strong. Now, as the sequel has been announced, they have a crossover franchise with Mario which is more Nintendo action than many Nintendo franchises get.
Also, hey, global tourist attraction and slice of history. Maybe mario went there with his …time machine…
@YusseiWarrior3000 it’s the same way mega man and simon belmont were in captain N, the game master.
@YusseiWarrior3000 it shows video game characters and franchises heavily associated with Nintendo get lumped into nintendo things from news sites to old cartoons. Especially ones that are allowed to get crossovers between their licensed characters and nintendo’s.
I guess Ubisoft was inspired by the hall of mirrors in Versailles to do this.
This makes me sad.
@YusseiWarrior3000 no, they are ubisoft characters that have an existing shared franchise with nintendo characters and get lumped in.
Kind of like when nintendolife does an article on someone digging up the segasonic the hedgehog arcade. Sonic is not a nintendo character, but he has mario and sonic at the olympics. So he’s “close enough” to make news on a nintendo site.
