Did you like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors? Then you might be interested to learn that Koei Tecmo has revealed that it is bringing Touken Ranbu Warriors to North America and Europe.
Known as Touken Ranbu Musou in Japan, it's the next entry in the long-running 'Musou' series of video games. Touken Ranbu – which translates as "Wild Dance of Swords" – is a browser-based free-to-play collectable card game that launched in Japan in January 2015, with a worldwide release taking place in April 2021. It has since spawned two anime series, stage plays and a live-action film. The series is especially popular with female players.
Touken Ranbu Warriors will be featured at the Tokyo Game Show in October and launches on May 24th, 2022 in both North America and Europe.
Here's some PR:
Touken Ranbu Warriors features 15 characters from Touken Ranbu -ONLINE-, where famous swords take the form of warriors named Touken Danshi (swordsmen), and the elite fighters are sworn to protect history. In Touken Ranbu Warriors, members of Touken Danshi have been drifting through time without their master – the Saniwa – to lead them, when they are suddenly attacked by the fearsome History Retrograde Army (HRA). After the initial conflict, the Touken Danshi are approached by the Government of the Time, and sent on a mission into the war-torn Sengoku Era where the revision of Japanese history is already underway. Can the Touken Danshi heroes restore order while restoring the original timeline? The fierce but beautiful battles of the Touken Danshi are finally a reality!
The game is set to feature the electrifying musou action fans expect from a WARRIORS title including battling alongside partner characters and head-to-head duels against enemies! Touken Ranbu Warriors also features the “Honmaru,” the main base of our heroes. Here, you can freely place members of the Touken Danshi in order to get a glimpse of their daily lives that can only be experienced in this game.
Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!

I read that as Tekken Rambo....if only!
Hm, not into this franchise. Barely heard of it so not very interested... On the other hand, that means I can focus on my other Warriors games and getting SW5.
I’m still consumed by samurai warriors 5 for switch . Ugh I suppose another one will be fine
Will likely get this one.
@Yeaitslenn It's coming in 8 months. You'll have some time to finish.
My hunky boys!
Finally, there just weren't enough Musou/Warriors games on the Switch.
It's not like that's the only thing Koei Tecmo keeps releasing like how Activision keeps releasing Call of Duty with the same assets every year.
@russell-marlow
I got to give it to Koei Tecmo for choosing to resort to spin-offs rather than bi-annual carbon copies like CoD. Persona 5 Scramble/Strikers and Age of Calamity were some of the most unique ones I've seen these days.
You had me at musou; you lost me at card game.
@SmileMan64 sure Samurai Warriors 5 is better than this...
@moodycat Age of Calamity and SW5 are great games, this looks bland.
I may pick it up but still had to get through Samurai Warriors 5 first.
I always say I’ve had my fill with Warriors games, but they’re just so addictive! I’ve played the 2 One Piece warriors games on switch and Hyrule warriors, but yet I still want to play more Musou games, will be keeping an eye out for this one
Musou games are like my comfort food, but I know nothing about this franchise. I need to see more before I decide to jump in.
@geo-shifter it's still a musou.
@BTB20 I might try it… or I might just wait until I see Dynasty Warriors 8 X go on sale. I buy them in several year increments; the last one being Hyrule Warriors rerelease (if you don’t count Persona Stirkers, otherwise that was the last).
@ModdedInkling Are they all really that different enough, gameplay-wise, to be called "spin-offs" since they use the same gameplay open arena formula in each game?
I imagine those games must have some gimmicks that make them somewhat different but still relatively the same.
@russell-marlow
Persona 5 Strikers has many mechanics taken from Persona 5 to the point where the difference is everything except the combat. Even then, the combat itself is a blend between hack 'n slash and turn-based RPG.
Age of Calamity is unique in the sense that the main purpose of the game is to tell a story as opposed to gameplay. It had barebones Musou gameplay with much of its strategy elements taken out in favour of storytelling and mimicking Breath of the Wild's mechanics. It's not as different as Persona 5 Strikers, but it certainly is different enough from most other Musou spin-offs.
The first Hyrule Warriors would be an example of a regular Musou game with a Zelda skin on it and a few gimmicks.
@ModdedInkling That doesn't really say much about Age of Calamity, since the game itself is fundamentally mindless action with occasional moments of, "Oh, you have to go here and then over there and you have to change between allies."
And since this is a Zelda game if story's the main focus, there's still not that much depth there either besides just banter between characters.
@russell-marlow
Age of Calamity, gameplay-wise, is probably one of the best and worst Musou games out there, because it serves as a great introduction for players who haven't played a REAL Musou game, but it's also too easy for those who are experienced. If you were to jump into a game like Samurai Warriors 5, or even the first Hyrule Warriors game, you're absolutely screwed if you have no clue what to do. Age of Calamity serves as a good starting point to ease players into that style of gameplay. It's not just about how much depth there is to the gameplay when it can become too much.
Age of Calamity, along with Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword, put much more emphasis on storytelling as both a Zelda game and in general. Age of Calamity gave us a lot more interactions and cutscenes of characters whom we barely saw in Breath of the Wild, and that effectively gave the player a greater connection to said characters compared to when we're playing Breath of the Wild.
Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. I'm a huge fan of the recent Warriors games
