It's not arriving in time for Halloween, but The Letter: A Horror Visual Novel does a good job at signposting what to expect - it's now confirmed to be coming to Switch eShop in December, while there'll be a run of 2000 physical copies in a Limited Edition, which will be unveiled on 15th September on Play-Asia.
The Letter is the work of Yangyang Mobile, the development team behind the rather good Love Esquire. Like that project this new title is definitely a mature game, with the Steam listing (on which it has very positive user reviews) going so far as to give a detailed content warning. For horror fans, though, it may certainly be worth a look.
The developer highlights sources of inspiration such as Ju-ON: The Grudge and The Ring, and after a light tone at the start of the trailer it certainly shifts it up rather quickly.
When seven people fall prey to a vicious curse, they discover that the true threat rests not within the shadows, but within their own hearts and minds. The Letter: A Horror Visual Novel is an interactive horror-themed drama inspired by classic Asian horror films. Told through an immersive branching narrative, the game casts players in the ever-shifting roles of seven characters as they find themselves entangled in a mystery that’s plagued Ermengarde Mansion for centuries.
The choices you make will shape and drive the story forward. Will you mend a relationship on the verge of collapse, or will you let it fall apart? Will you risk saving someone despite the consequences you could face or leave them to meet a gruesome end? Beyond the horror themes of The Letter: A Horror Visual Novel, there is heavy emphasis on character development and interaction. The fate of each of these individuals is in your hands.

I've almost pulled the trigger on the Steam version a few times now.
This is just the sort of game I want on a portable device. Even if I get a Steam Deck, it's still not ideal for visual novel-y games like this.
Hopefully more PC exclusive VNs come over.
We all know the best game called, “The Letter,” was on the Wii U. There will never be a contest.
I'm not even joking, I am THRILLED to see another Yangyang mobile game so soon after playing Love Esquire. Love Esquire has some shockingly good writing and voice acting. Day one for one of those physical copies!
