If you love racing games - particularly of the rally variety, and also happen to miss the days when top down racing games were in their prime, then you might be interested in the upcoming Switch eShop release, Rush Rally Origins.
It's meant to be arriving around mid-August and will apparently offer the "definitive" top down racing experience, according to developer Brownmonster Games. It combines together the action of the original game with the graphics and physics of the third game.
Players will take on 36 new and unique stages across the world as they compete in a series of rally championships, point-to-point, and time trial races. There are also global online leaderboards, various surfaces to race across and the ability to upgrade the cars in the game to tailor to your own driving style.
If you would like to learn a bit more about this series, be sure to check out our review of Rush Rally 3. Does this look like your kind of racing game? Leave a comment down below.

This may actually scratch my rally itch on the switch. Might need to be a day one.
As much as I like these kind of games back in the 8-Bit/16-Bit days, nowadays playing these through the perspective of a helicopter just doesn't work for me. These are the kind of games that are good to watch, just not good to play but that's just me.
Love top down racers and this one looks great - day 1 for me. Top down racers seem to be making a comeback of sorts
Sounds awesome! Brownmonster is one of my fav devs. I love all the options for visuals and frame rate in Rush Rally on Switch. I guess it's like one guy, but I wish Brownmonster would put out more games more frequently.
❗I like top-down racers but would prefer normal racing as opposed to rally.
Looks pretty good. Will keep an eye on this one…
Dream come true! Rush Rally 3 is one of the best racing games on Switch, and I love me some top down racing.
This looks great I love rush rally 3 nearly every aspect of the game is customisable it’s become one of my favourite racing games on switch impressive stuff from a small dev I will be supporting this
I’ll definitely support this dude with a purchase. The options and love he put into his other switch game was amazing.
Instant buy, it reminds me of the old Neo Geo racers with gorgeous graphics.
If you like top-down racers and don't own it already, I can't recommend Mantis Burn Racing highly enough. Absolutely brilliant stuff with tonnes of tracks and really nice handling.
transh, transh, transh. transh, transh

@nmanifold ' Rush Rally 3 is one of the best racing games on Switch,'
Thanks, Origins is not intended to replace Rush Rally 3, it is to play along side it, it is a different beast all together There will be another RR3 update after the launch of Origins too, which will have the updated engine and visuals in it.
@SpringDivorce - 'it reminds me of the old Neo Geo racers with gorgeous graphics.'
Exactly as I wanted it to be, it should bring back all the good memories of Neo Drift Out
I've heard much good about Rush Rally 3 and will eventually get it on my Switch, but I must say this interests me more. The only thing making me hesitant, for both games actually, is the lack of local multiplayer.
@Imerion - 'The only thing making me hesitant, for both games actually, is the lack of local multiplayer.'
Understood, I'm hoping to work on how this can be done with 4 players on 1 switch after launch. Until then it has the ability to race other ghosts from the leaderboards, which is still very competitive.
@Brownmonster Sounds great! I'm definitely interested either way - I really like these classic top-down racers and I appreciate the detailed graphics. Way too many games in this genre focus on overly simplistic graphics - which can be nice too - but I prefer more detail.
@Imerion - 'Way too many games in this genre focus on overly simplistic graphics'
@Brownmonster
You mentioned Neo Drift Out - I'm definitely sold!
@Brownmonster I really like what you did with RR3 on Switch - it’s a fun game.
Whilst visually a bit sparse at times, and with unpredictable performance at times, it’s still one of the most enjoyable racing titles on Switch. Looking forward to the update you are eluding to.
With a bit more work and polish, and released physically, I’d happily buy it again.
Nice to see the dev pop in here to answer questions and offer more insight into what we can expect @Brownmonster, kudos.
@Rich10 - `Nice to see the dev pop in here to answer questions`
-Thanks, I think most people who have played the Rush Rally series know how much I interact with the communtiry, in fact half the features in RR3 were suggested by the players! As long as you have a great experience playing my games, I'm happy!
Really looking forward to this.
Will there be a physical realese also?
Brownmonster also made car physics in ColinMC Rae and other racing games in the past.
They are not just some random "Indie".
@Tryffel `Will there be a physical realese also?`
@Ventilator `car physics in ColinMC Rae and other racing games in the past.
@Brownmonster
You've just elevated yourself to legend in my eyes. Sonic Transformed is one of the best Kart racers of all time - I actually prefer it to MK8 in single-player due to the physics and World Tour. Kudos man!
The last one was brilliant, if tricky, so this is a no brainer especially at that price.
@SpringDivorce `Sonic Transformed is one of the best Kart racers of all time`
@Brownmonster
A water-based game would be amazing. Desperately short of Wave Race-alikes on Switch and I really anjoyed the boats in Transformed!
@Brownmonster
Thank you for your reply. I understand the complexity in this, i would love to have a copy of it.. I dont know for sure but i got the i feeling that the Switch with its large userbase and loyal fanbase seem to be a quite good consol for physical indie realeses.😁 Mayby it could be distributed by limited run games?
I mean, they realese a lot of games, many of them, far from the quality and popularity of this series and still, they often sell out in no time😄
@Tryffel `Mayby it could be distributed by limited run games?`
RR3 is my fav racer on Switch (and I have most of them), wouldn't mind having a go at a dedicated top-down take on the sport.
Used to be a big fan of stuff like Ignition and Death Rally too, so there's an itch to be scratched.
@Brownmonster can you say what performance additions you are including for the New Switch model?
What are you targeting for frame rate and resolution on switch lite vs switch vs the new switch model?
@sixrings `What are you targeting for frame rate `
@Brownmonster I loved Rush Rally 3. Excellent job. I was a big fan of the original Sega Rally, so this hit the spot for me.
Very interested in your new game
I absolutely love the look of this! Unfortunately I am not the most skilled at racing games. Please tell me there is some sort of adjustable difficulty levels?
@dugan ` Please tell me there is some sort of adjustable difficulty levels?`
@Brownmonster does the dlss upscale to 4K?
Looks interesting but would be good to know how this plays compared to Mantis Burn Racing and if it offers much different to it gameplay-wise.
@Brownmonster I can live with that! I appreciate a well designed difficulty curve. Also, i am okay with not finishing first as long as I don't finish last all the time. 😊 Thank you for responding — I am definitely getting the game!
I'm psyched about this one! I loved RC Pro Am. Micro Machines, and Super Off Road.
This one looks really cool too. I'm digging the visuals.
@Brownmonster as someone said above, Sonic Transformed beats MK8 in single player, hands down. Its one of the greatest Kart racers ever and I still play it on PC to this day. Well done!
Yes! I love Rush Rally.
@Brownmonster Yep. I remember sending you a message years ago when you released the first Rush Rally game which i bought for NVIDIA Shield TV. I think it ran at 1080p/60 which is great.
You and Madfinger games is among the few that cares about gamepad controls on Android btw.
I'm looking forward to this. Rush Rally 3 is really good but Origins looks even better.
@Rubbercookie Do you have Mini Motor Racing X? I bought it the other day on sale and I'm having a great time with it. The 6/10 Nintendolife awarded it is a joke.
@nmanifold Agreed about Sonic Racing Transformed. I would love a remaster of that, in 60fps. Although I havent played it, Team Sonic Racing seems to be a huge backward step from Transformed.
