Eldest Souls arrives on 29th July, a rather promising pixel-art boss rush game that made its debut during Nintendo's Spring Indie Showcase. It uses the term Souls-like because that's a legal requirement nowadays, but it does nevertheless look stylish and enjoyable.
It's been developed by the small team at Fallen Flag Studio, and publishing partner United Label Games has now released an animated trailer, above, which is quite impressive while reinforcing the point that it'll be a game about persistence; the bosses will win some fights, in other words.
While the game is all about boss fights, there will also be an 'extensive' skill tree and various 'intriguing NPCs and challenging questlines' to discover. There's some gameplay in the Indie Showcase trailer below, too.
Let us know if you're planning to pick this up at the end of the month!

Looks promising. Art style is really nice. I loved Furi and have been looking for more boss rush games ever since.
Love the gameplay art style, but not a fan of that animated trailer's animation.
Is this trailer trying to copy Dead Cell's humor?
Looks wholly unoriginal, sadly. Character looks like a Chibi War from Darksiders, animation style and humor looks like it's cribbing heavily from Dead Cells, sequences in the boss fight borrow moments from Doc Strange's fight with Dormammu and Thor Ragnarok's helmet bounce after defeating Surtur.
Bosses look like they've been lifted from Witcher and Titan Souls. The gameplay itself looks like Titan Souls. Even the name is derivative and more attention-grabbing than meaningful.
I'm all for indies but, sheesh, you definitely have to bring something new to the table.
When is Bethesda going to over the title of the game.
The game looks cool, but yeh like someone said, the name is a stinker!
IDK, something about the animation of the main character puts me off, hopefully this gets solved or i get used to it, optimistic about this one but waiting for reviews
