Publisher and developer Lienzo has announced that Aztech Forgotten Gods, the anime-inspired action-adventure game revealed during Nintendo's April Indie World Showcase, will be launching this fall.
This "Latin-Futurism cyberstone colossus fighter" follows the story of Achtli who, alongside her mother, accidentally awakens some very deadly foes. There's a (very slightly) extended version of the announcement trailer to check out up above, and Lienzo has also shared this lengthy description:
In Aztech’s alternate history, European powers never arrived on the shores of ancient Mesoamerica. The Aztec Empire’s capital Tenochtitlan has thrived for centuries as a stone metropolis, technologically advanced yet heavily rooted in the ways of those indigenous to the land. Yet the gods of their past, like the feathered serpent deity Quetzalcoatl or Mictlantechutli, Lord of the Underworld, faded into distant memories. Until now.

Soon-to-be heroine Achtli joins her archeologist mother Nantsin on an unsanctioned dig. While searching for ancient knowledge that could help all of society, they inadvertently cause an explosion and awaken stone colossi hellbent on destroying the city. Achtli crawls out of the rubble to discover two new things: her prosthetic arm’s been replaced with a stone artifact, and there’s someone in her head named Tez claiming his own divinity.
Join the unlikely duo on their quest to crush colossi and discover why the gods disappeared so long ago. Battle massive bosses while wielding Achtli’s new gauntlet as a makeshift jetpack and devastating weapon all in one. Soar through the sky, run on walls, grind on rails, and bring the pantheon to their knees with stone-crushing strikes. Upgrade the gauntlet with Nantsin’s help to earn new abilities from plasma-based projectiles to energy shields.
Explore Tenochtitlan with Achtli’s incredible newfound agility and strength. Encounter optional side stories, unlock new outfits, and upgrade passive abilities by completing secondary challenges in the hub-world. Become the city’s savior with an adrenaline-fueled soundtrack that fuses metal with traditional Aztec instruments. Aztech: Forgotten Gods’ emotional journey took inspiration from anime and superhero comics and has a vibrant, Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic to match.

We're yet to receive a solid release date for this one, but we'll make sure to keep an eye out for more news over the coming months.
In the meantime, feel free to let us know whether or not you're thinking of playing this with a comment below.

This one was one of the highlights! Looking forward
I can’t wait, this looks amazing
The artwork is awsome
Very strong Asura's Wrath vibe. Maybe Asura's Wrath made in Dreams. I'd play it.
I'll support those guys, game looks great
This looks amazing. Hope it turns out well.
Huh, weird, the concept art bears a resemblance to some old art I did for a game I was developing with my cousin. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, having your hero jumping at a giant boss enemy seems like a fairly standard composition.

The style, alone, warrants this one attention.
@OldManHermit it’s a pretty common composition, specially in anime, I don’t know if you have seen One Punch Man, but there is a scene where he jumps to fight the subterranean king, and is a similar image.
@JeanPaul Yeah, I love One Punch Man. I know exactly the scene you're talking about.
what's one punch man?
Not only am I sucker for primal nature styles, I also really like this main character designs ("Mega hands" trope aside).
@ColdDeadlyWolf it’s an anime based on the manga from the same name, where the titular hero, One Punch Man, has grown so strong that he finishes his fights with one punch, this lead to he being bored constantly. It’s a really funny anime with great action sequences.
@rjejr
I'd rather it be nothing like "QTE the Game" to be honest. It does look interesting though.
@JeanPaul Thanks for explaining
@Kang81 Was Asura's Wrath like that? I hate QTE w/ a passion - doesn't everybody? - but I recall enjoying the game. Maybe I played on easy or turned them off? Oh well, it has been 9 years since I played it so I'm nto doubting you, just don't recall. I always think of the early God of War games as QTE nightmares.
@rjejr From what I recall Asura's Wrath was basically, "QTE the game". It had standard 3rd person combat/shooter sections peppered throughout, but by and large it was mostly comprised of interactive cut scenes. I'm not the biggest QTE fan either, but I thought they worked great in the context of that game. Really helped convey the ridiculous, over the top godlike abilities of the characters.
@OldManHermit Thanks for the info. Kinda sorta remember that now, but not fully. I'd like to play it again, but it's kinda niche.
This is a proper example of diverse art. Not just a cheap, lazy race- or gender-swap but legitimate culturally relevant stuff that offers something substantial and fresh. As a Latino myself, it's cool to see something beyond empty pandering.
@rjejr
Honestly that's about the only thing I remember, I had only played the demo and that was enough QTE's for me. lol
I did do a quick.google search before I posted my reply so i.didnt look like a complete idiot, only a partial one. It was very QTE heavy.
My runners up for that distinction would be anything from David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream.
@OldManHermit
Yeah, not that there was anything wrong with it for fans of that, but I got burned out on QTE's from the God of War games. I loved them, but man did they overuse them.
@Kang81 "David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream."
Yeah I skipped all of those, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls and Detroit. Not my thing. I tried, but I couldn't.
@rjejr
I legitimately tried Heavy Rain. I needed to be a contortionist or have 3 or 4 extra fingers for the horrible design of their QTE's.
I recall the murder investigation scene on the side of a highway early on. I physically could not press all the buttons they asked me to do in the pattern they wanted simultaneously, and I have nothing wrong with my hands. 🤦♂️
