We're now a week out from E3 Expo 2021 and it seems 2K's major announcements might have already been leaked.
The publisher is apparently set to reveal a brand new Marvel game by the Civilization studio Firaxis. Industry insider and GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb says it's "real" and has described it as an "XCOM style" take on the Avengers. The original leak over on Reddit says it's "XCOM with Marvel heroes" and that some "famous actors" will be voicing the heroes.
Another game players can supposedly expect to hear about is a new Borderlands spin-off starring Tiny Tina. It's known as Wonderlands and is believed to be similar to past entries. It was also teased by Gamereactor last month.
Last of all is a new sci-fi action game called Codename Volt. It will be made by Hanger 13 (Mafia III) and has been described as "Cthulhu meets Saints Row". Dirk Nowitzki is expected to be the cover athlete for NBA 2K22, too.
Grubb mentions how the "rest of the leak" is also real, and others have chimed in like the Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier:
2K has shown quite a lot of love for the Nintendo Switch this generation - releasing game series like Borderlands, Civilization, Bioshock and XCOM on the hybrid system in recent years. And if the rumoured "Switch Pro" turns out to be true - there's a real chance we might see some new games ported across.

🥇1ST.
Yes please.
When it leaks it pours
The awful state of Marvel's TV and Cinema presence at this moment sure needs a strong game to back it up.
Edit: I am specifically referring to quality, not quantity.
Oh I like Xcom, I would be up for a Avenger's version.
This just sounds like a great idea. Hopefully they pull it off.
Here's hoping that this'll turn out much better than that OTHER certain Avenger's related game we got awhile back, yikes...
Not quite sure how this would work. I don't really feel like superheroes make good source material for an Xcom style game.
Then again, Mario + Rabbids happened and was pretty awesome and absolutely didn't make sense. So... Maybe?
This could work if real. And it is starting to feel like E3 of old with leaks on leaks everyday. Then they will release a press release or show it at a conference.
NBA 2K22 is the only one of those games that is pretty much guaranteed to get a Switch port.
Maybe XCOM Avengers too?
If it's RTS, then it won't be like XCOM at all.
I've been playing the Marvel Champions LCG since launch and that is effectively a turn-based tactical combat game so I could see this working too. Lotsa different powers and play-styles of the heroes seem like it could make a cool match for an x-com style game...I'd be up for it for sure.
I wonder how permadeath would work if there is permadeath in this game. I don't think Disney would be too happy with their heroes dying in a videogame.
There can never be enough Marvel games, so bring it on, I say.
And X-COM is one of my all time favorites, so a combo of the two sounds pretty close to a must-buy for me.
@Varkster I don't know what alternate Earth within the multiverse you came from but Marvel literally giving us movie/TV content in addition to new comics virtually every week for the entire year thanks to how COVID delayed everything is definitely not them being in an awful state on those fronts
The only reason we've gone a two years without a movie release is the same reason for a lot of other movie franchises or just the industry in general
@TheFrenchiestFry Marvel comics have been terrible for years. So receiving new comics every week is something you shouldn't be boasting about that.
@MsJubilee If you seriously think that I can't help but feel you've been out of touch for years and you've only missed out because of that
Immortal Hulk, the Chip Zdarsky Daredevil run, the Jonathan Hickman X-Men run and the new Fantastic Four stuff are all superb (especially Immortal Hulk), as was what I've read of Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man run and I've only heard great things about Spider's Shadow
I'm totally down for Marvel X-COM. Firaxis is a studio that I trust completely. This is going to be amazing.
I do hope it won't just be the Avengers, and not adhere strictly to the MCU asthetic. I want some comic-book Nightcrawler and Moon Knight and Jubilee. Ultimate Spider-Man would be great, too, but I expect Sony won't allow it.
Super hyped for this.
Not a fan of the genre, but anything is going to better than that newish and painfully banal Avengers game
Sounds awesome!
@TheFrenchiestFry Your standards must be so low that you think those three are actually good, hahaha. And, I'm not just talking about the current comic runs; I'm talking years and years of utter junk that Marvel & DC have been spilling out. I can give you some examples of the trash Marvel has been spewing if you like.
This has my attention. From the time I played Sega's incredible Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3, I dreamed of what that cel-shaded, hybrid turn-based/real-time tactical engine could do with the likes of licenses like Marvel, DC, G.I. JOE, or Transformers. While this game may not stick all of the exact boxes, the concept sounds similar. If they throw in a multiplayer mode with customizable teams, rules, and a good selection of maps, this one could be huge. It'll all come down to execution.
Imagine something like this but with Agents of SHIELD as your team. And you maybe get to call in Iron Man if you behave good.
I'll be looking forward to it
@ToadBrigade A black man overcoming his doubt and the odds to become one of the most influential superheroes was underwhelming?
Not with those characters. There was a good one ages ago, from which the latest part flopped, but man, the first two parts were amazing. Now... meh.
@TheFrenchiestFry that is true... but most of it was garbage like Karl... I mean, Ms. Marvel.
Hope this game is good, it would make up for the massive disappointment that was Ultimate Alliance 3
